Do you remember when that album was released? Many people on here were all excited and in awe of that album. People were posting lyrics to the songs in their signature messages! |
MisterCosmicc 09.05.2018 09:52 |
Was it Rafael or ThomasQuinn that had the chorus of Cosmos Rockin’ as their signature as if it’s the most genius thing they heard? |
thomasquinn 32989 09.05.2018 11:22 |
I don't know what is wrong with you (although I have a number of theories), but I've never even listened to The Cosmos Rocks, let alone made any comment on its substance. In other news: stop spamming and get a life. |
dysan 09.05.2018 16:21 |
Hated it at the time, listened the other week and enjoyed it very much. |
Pim Derks 09.05.2018 16:47 |
Haven't listened to it for quite some time, but still think it was undeservedly ignored by pretty much everyone. Yes, some of the lyrics were crappy. But tracks like Through The Night, Some Things That Glitter, Surf's Up etc could've easily fit on The Miracle, Made In Heaven or Innuendo IMO. Excellent album. |
mooghead 09.05.2018 17:06 |
Never listened to/bought it. |
pittrek 09.05.2018 17:14 |
Great album. It's not very "queen-y", but still it's a great album |
Invisible Woman 09.05.2018 17:44 |
I never listened to any of the songs from that album. What song you recommend if I decide to hear some? |
*goodco* 09.05.2018 20:13 |
I have never heard of, or used, Google. Who is this fruity as a nutcake mistercosmicc? |
mike hunt 09.05.2018 20:40 |
Poor album overall...Small, Glitter, Say It's Not True and perhaps Through the Night were good....the thing is even Say It's Not True studio verson is my least favorite version of that song. I prefer the Roger vocals alone like he sings It live....The version with Jeff Beck live is also better than the Cosmo Rocks version. |
MisterCosmicc 10.05.2018 00:23 |
Mike, the studio version is ruined by Paul! Needs an edit! |
mike hunt 10.05.2018 00:56 |
I agree |
Jimmy Dean 10.05.2018 01:42 |
I thought it was a great Brian May solo album. Great followup to Another World. |
Jimmy Dean 10.05.2018 01:42 |
And yes, Another World is 20 years old this year. |
Sebastian 10.05.2018 04:09 |
I only heard it a few years post-release, and I liked it. Not enough to play it again... but enough not to have deemed that half an hour or so 'wasted time'. Come to think of it, I may have heard it a second time after that, and my reaction was... 'meh!' It didn't bother me, but it didn't excite me too much either. |
Dr Magus 10.05.2018 08:49 |
The album is shit bordering on wank and I haven't even heard it. |
rockchic65 10.05.2018 11:15 |
Only one I like is say it's not true, but with Roger singing so doesn't really count I suppose. I like Paul's own stuff but somehow his voice just didn't work on this album for me. |
Iron Butterfly 10.05.2018 11:30 |
It's an ok album. Funny thing, I watch ROTC more than I listen to TCR. |

Michael Scapp 10.05.2018 13:43 |
I love this album. Not very Queen-like, but it has the sound of an excellent classic rock album from the 1970s. Which for Queen this is weird, as I believe that their 70s output is pretty timeless. TCR may be "stuck in the 70s", but it's still a great album. |
Makka 10.05.2018 17:26 |
I like a few songs on Cosmos Rocks, but not many. And the album cover was just dumb! ;) |
Jeremy 10.05.2018 19:11 |
I like it. The full band version of "Say It's Not True" far and away surpasses any other version. Sounds like Queen. There were four issues that I think kept it from being more well regarded. 1. The title and cover were obviously an attempt to capitalize on Brian May's doctorate/ association with space. It came off gimmicky. 2. The production is what I refer to as "artificially warm". Listen to "No one But You" or any of the "Made In Heaven" songs back to back with "The Cosmos Rocks" and you'll hear frequencies on "The Cosmos Rocks" that don't mesh and are a little annoying to the listener. 3.Queen is thought of as a band with songs featuring anthemic choruses. There were virtually none apart from "Say It's Not True" and "We Believe" the latter of which is not structured in a way to be immediately ear catching and fist raising. 4. Paul, as amazing as he is(He should still be with Brian and Roger in my book), sounds as if he's coasting vocally on the majority this album. If memory serves, he only cuts loose on "Say It's Not True" and "C-lebrity"... It's akin to how Freddie sounds on parts of "Let Me In Your Heart Again"...it's a live/demo/rough take vocal delivery. He can do much much better as we've all heard. Check out his Memphis recordings. It has kind of a relaxed, "just jamming" vibe which probably also hurt it as we are used to meticulously crafted works of art under the Queen name. Overall, it's respectable for what it is. |

I liked the fact that it was more varied than most people expected. Average to cringey lyrics aside, I think it's a great effort by Paul and Roger but Brian just phoned it in. A few underwhelming solos in there... Not even to say they're spontaneous and improvised a-la Blues (except for Voodoo) but I can almost hear him doing take 2 or 3 and then saying "meh, that's good enough". Also, only three songs? I like Cosmos Rockin', Time to Shine, We Believe (mock-epic, even if it goes nowhere), C-lebrity and, depending on my mood, a few others. |

Raf 11.05.2018 22:47 |
To be honest, I'm not as fond of it nowadays as I was back then. However, being born shortly before Freddie died and growing up seeing my idols as a retired band with a dead leader, it was fun to once in my life know what it feels like to wait for actual new music from them, hear their new single on some TV show for the first time, pre-order the album, listen to it, share the feeling with other fans, catch them on tour and sing along to new tunes. I wish they'd release a new album with Adam Lambert. Even if it's no masterpiece, at least it'd be fun to go aboard the hype train once again. |
mike hunt 12.05.2018 02:20 |
I remember you Raf.....as they say only the real good ones stand the test of time. I remember the hype, some even put it in their top 5 Queen albums when first released. These days it gets mostly those type of comments " these days I'm not so fond of it." I personally never liked the album. I was excited to see Brian and Roger playing together again. Now I wish they would stop unless they record again without Lambert. |

Because I can't remember - was there a backlash with the whole Q+PR stuff like with AL stuff? |
MisterCosmicc 21.05.2018 11:55 |
Not as much as Lambert. Most teenyboppers thought the Cosmos Rocks was the best album in the world. |
dudeofqueen 21.05.2018 15:16 |
It was utter trash. Still is. Will never be anything else. |
john bodega 22.05.2018 05:17 |
Some Things That Glitter is still the only track I have any time for. Can't stand the sound of Paul Rodger's voice but it's the easiest one for me to play 'pretend it's Queen' with. Say It's Not True is fine, but I hit skip as soon as the intruder starts singing. |
MisterCosmicc 25.05.2018 08:26 |
Same |
Invisible Woman 30.05.2018 10:23 |
I have listened to songs from " The Cosmos rock " album for a few days ago. Frankly, I don't like it, it's not Queen's music. "Say it's not true" is not bad but nothing special. |
