A remix will never happen. They've had the chance in 2011/2012 and they didn't. I would kill for The Miracle and Innuendo to sound like Made In Heaven and Cosmos Rocks. |

Nothing really. The Jazz tour was nothing really special. NOTW was far more interesting. |
Nathan H 21.04.2018 16:31 |
The band didn't like the Jazz album. Both Brian and Roger say that they only like a couple of tracks on the album. Why would Queen release bonus material on an album none of them really like? News Of The World is an important album for the group as it was the first album since Queen I where they went 'raw'. I would love for them to do it was A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races but they would've done it already if they were going to release an anniversary box set? But then again The Beatles released Sgt. Peppers box set last year at 50 years old... I don't think any other Queen album had so much footage filmed behind the scenes which might be why the NOTW box set is so special. Remember Queen might be saving material for a possible Anthology in the future... |
matt z 21.04.2018 16:33 |
Yes, Freddie was gay: but he also knew well enough that naked ladies make for GREAT DECORATION. ...naked men. ...well that's an exclusive set and would alienate most. Holly2003 22.04.2018 08:30 |
I doubt QP/Jim Beach will release anything live unless it's Q+Lambert. They're mainly interested in casual consumers rather than dedicated fans , and a live set that doesn't have all the 1980s hits won't be attractive to the general public. Some live landmark event might sell if it's advertised as such. Rio, Hyde Park maybe. But they've missed significant anniversaries of those events already, so it might be a while before we see them, if ever. As others have said, the next release will likely be related to the movie -- a soundtrack, a re-release of GH, or some Fred compilation. In other words, nothing to get excited about. |

My ideas were 1. Remastering the album 2. Live DVD and CD of Hammersmith or of Paris 1979 3. The full album with Alternate Takes 4. Bicycle Race poster or the Jazz album cover poster 5. An album with "never heard before" live takes of songs like Fun It, Jealousy, In Only Seven Days, or More Of That Jazz |
Dim 22.04.2018 15:49 |
Jazz is a great album with all Queen elements plus new experimental ideas. It lacks on sound production like Queen I, The Miracle and few songs on Innuendo. The band like the songs but not the sound. I believe that if it had better quality sound it would have be one of the best 70s album. For me it is their white album, very experimental! It has middle east sounds to heavy rock, dixieland band style to pop rock. I was listening their three single on DTS from Greatest Hits DVD, they sound beautiful! |
mike hunt 22.04.2018 19:51 |
Dim.....I agree 100%, the songs are great...with a few changes like production/sound, and exclude a few songs that weren't very good, it could have been one of their classic albums. Also the track order, all those things were fixable. Maybe they were rushed by the record company? |
blueroom 22.04.2018 20:26 |
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the album... every track, including Roger's often-criticized tracks and other tracks that are usually called "filler", has a special place in my heart... but it wasn't nearly as critically or commercially successful as Game, NOTW, or ANATO, and it wasn't a huge change of style like NOTW was. It's just not as unique as some of the other albums and that's why I don't think it'll be getting the deluxe treatment. Obviously, I'd love to be wrong, though. I would happily purchase and enjoy a deluxe Jazz just as I did with my NOTW box. |
OhioMustapha 22.04.2018 22:53 |
The only reason there was a change of style for NOTW is because the punk movement, which resulted in stuff like SHA, SOTS, and FFTI. |

It was definitely a big part of it but, I think that after 5 years of making (mostly) similar types of music you'd want a style change of some type or another, even if there wasn't a larger shift in music generally going on as well. I think Roger or Brian said something to that effect in the American Dream doc, at least. Also, is Sleeping on the Sidewalk really considered a punk song?!?!? I don't see any traces of punk in that track, more blues or country style to me. |

With regard to the difference between the NOTW tour and Jazz. Yes NOTW had the crown which gave the show a spectacular (at the time) opening, but lighting wise it actually didn't offere much more, a circular truss with a cross stage truss effectively hung above the stage. During the shows the lighting was no more effective than on the previous tour ( maybe less so) where the arched proscenium truss framed the other lights which were hung in vertical columns in a wide arc facing the audience. The Jazz tour with the pizza oven rig had a spectacular opening, once in show trim the rig was angled so that the rig not on,y light the stage it provided a spactacular focal point. It was used as vast colour washes with banks of colour or individual rows of lights or sections of the rig. Far more wide ranging than the crown. It also felt huge and quite modern at the time as no one had ever presented lighting in that way. It also set the pattern for future rigs. Add to that the second stage which was flown in, as Mr Wizard has mentioned, during the US shows and the atomic white drum riser lights and the gong lights, the Jazz tour presented a stunning visual show which went beyond the opening. Both NOTW and Jazz tours presented a great setlist too, looking back now maybe the earlier tour wins on that because it presented some older songs, however the Jazz tour gave us a great extended Brighton Rock and the acoustic set. Both tours were great and better than The Magic Tour, but that's just my view |

I'm sure it's Jazz which had an alternate lyric version for one of the songs that Greg told us about 9 years ago at convention and said the band thought it was great and should be released. I was disappointed it didn't feature on the 2011 remaster, so hopefully we will get a Jazz boxset with this and other tracks on. Of course, I expect, like NOTW, Greg et al will submit about 3 different versions of each track and we'll end up with a paltry one of each :( Anyway. WHY are we talking Jazz 40th release boxset? 2018 is the year of the movie and the only release will be a tie in with that. The deluxe set will include repro mini poster, repro internet download print-off cinema ticket, 40 page book of behind the scenes photos, DVD of the movie, BD of the movie, movie soundtrack CD with all songs sung by Freddie, movie soundtrack CD with all songs sung by Marc Martel, and bonus CD of THE new song with Adam Lambert - all for the glorious price of £160. |

A jazz box would tie in nicely with FBG being all over the film. The fact is, they need as much product on the shelves by november. |
Togg 29.06.2018 11:33 |
They will skip over Jazz it wasn't a massive hit at the time and isn't seen as a 'classic' album, we will however see The Game box set, mark my words |
dysan 30.06.2018 07:45 |
But it does have DSMN on it which is their most popular song with teenies. And FBG and BT which they are currently touring. I'd say there's more potential for a Jazz box rather than, say, a ADATR box on the strength of it including STL. NOTW was given the deluxe treatment down to WWRY and WATC. Agree about The Game. That would be great as long as they include a Bike It t-shirt. |
Dr Magus 01.07.2018 13:31 |
Leaves next year free for a Live Killers box set. Mind you, i'm not holding my breath for anything that will be worth the money. |
dysan 01.07.2018 16:14 |
LK is a tough one. I love albums with bonus tracks added - either at the end of the album or across several discs, but LK deluxe seems to require extra tracks inserted into the running order or re jigging the entire album. I think I'd like that one to be reissued as is - but with an additional concert attached. This could be one performance (say, Hammersmith '79) or more than likely a composite of several picking the best of whatever is in the vaults from that era and tracks missed off LK. Best of both worlds. |
mike hunt 01.07.2018 20:12 |
The next big release is the Movie and then the Movie soundtrack....which is basically greatest hits repackaged yet again....I wouldn't bother with A Jazz or The Game deluxe....Just release an anthology. |
Togg 02.07.2018 09:30 |
Roger really hated the sound of Live Killers so if they were to ever do anything with it, he's want the whole thing totally re-mixed and I suspect a huge amount of work on getting the sound right |

Funny ^ I've always liked that drawing. Doesn't look wieldy though, you're right |

The products/memorabilia of the 40th anniversary of Jazz has been released on queenonline.com. Nice to have the picture disc with the white rim and black bicyvles back for an affordable price, but otherwise it's pretty lame. Too bad they haven't decided to release a Jazz box :-( But well, what can you expect from Queen Productions? |
