ny band has some personal differences between members and the difference between the members QUEEN couldn't be any more ....
John and Freddie couldn't be any further apart on the spectrum than any of the other two but... John Deacon and Freddie Mercury have shared, what would have been/which sounded like, some very close moments together in studio. The most famous being the almost two minute long jam together on Millionaires Waltz and the very beautiful little bass, piano and guitar trio on Love of my Life.
Along with a handful of other studio tracks that showcase some brilliance between the two, some unique moments during Freddie's song writing where Brian's guitar doesn't feature at all, where John's bass is the only other major instrument such as the unique Bass, Piano and vocals only track of Nevermore or the Bass Piano and drums of Melancholy Blues.
What is your guys favorite Freddie and John combination?? or some very significant parts that are easily missed in a song but stand out to you, that you would like to share?
Hi there, I agree about the chemistry between John and Fred on the whole.Yes, John's bass lines on LOL and Nevermore are delicate and characteristically melodic. I wouldn't, however, call Millionaire Waltz "a jam", this would have been worked on a good deal. I actually like what John did at the start of It;s a Beautiful Day and the bubbly runs in Breakthru. Still. in those songs where John has room to move, there is a lovely elegance to his melodies. He does however, create similar gems on say Teo Torriatte and Sail Away Sweet Sister, and his counterpoint with Brian in the early days like The Night Comes Down, Someday One Day and especially the live improvs of Father to Son are just as effective. As time passed however, I get the feeling that in a live context, John didn't give a fuck what Brian was playing.
I'm sure that it has been said before, but Freddie gave John's songs a voice, so I am sure that there was a musical empathy and keen sense of collaboration.
Nevermore has little guitar in the end, sounds like piano. Brian and Freddie wrote two beautiful songs together Bijou and is this the world are we created?
They (Brian a day Freddie) work very close in the studio even during The Game period.
