I am selling my collection on Discogs and while making my inventory I stumbled upon an interesting version of Queen Rocks on CD. It wasn't on Discogs yet so I scanned some images and added it to their site: link
This CD has the same censored sleeve with the dressed angels as the South African release (like this link but it does not have the same South African back sleeve. At first, I thought my copy actually was the South African release only with the wrong back sleeve, but then I noticed that my back sleeve does actually have the same catalogue number as the censored front sleeve. So it must be a match. Disc and sleeve are made in Holland.
Does anybody know this release, what is the story behind it and - of course - what could be its approximate value?
PS for anyone interested: my entire Queen + solo collection is for sale, as well as some Valentine and Valensia stuff and some other CDs from back in the days that are now mostly gathering dust in my record closet. Part of it is graded and priced on Discogs, but please do feel free to browse the rest as well (link. Send me a private message for details or to make me an offer if there's something of your interest. And let's reserve this topic for that crazy little Rocks release of mine. Thanks!
What Thistleboy says. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my OP.
I've done quite some web research on this one, but I can not find it anywhere. Which makes me want to know what this is even more.
I figured this would be the place to find some like-minded Queen detectives. And I would really appreciate your help.
I simply bought it at a record store in Holland. They were called Jake's Music, located in Eindhoven. I believe they don't exist anymore, at least not at the location they used to be.
I don't know the exact information, only asumption that this 'censored' edition was pressed probably by request from some retailers in Europe sometime later after the first common edition was released.
It was manufactured in Holland only. Later South African version and probably Brazilian version was based on this edition as the main catalog no. is the same.
I like this censored sleeve, but I don't like that all virgins (virgos) were completely removed from the booklet...
