Brian mentioned that Freddie had his foot amputated towards the end of his life but this isn't mentioned in Phoebe or Jim's book. I was wondering what other Queen fans thought of Phoebe and Jim's books , do you believe in their version of events (not just before freddie died but afterwards, the drama with Mary etc?). |
musicland munich 18.02.2018 22:29 |
Where did he mentioned that EXACTLY ? A more specific source ( book , interview etc.) please ;) |
Bertus 18.02.2018 22:32 |
Freddie did not amputed his foot.... |

Sorry guys, here's a link to one of the articles: link |
Jimmy Dean 19.02.2018 05:25 |
actually a buddy of mine is writing his post-doctorate on this very subject - did you want some medical background on this or just the general science? |
LR1 19.02.2018 10:34 |
The only form of amputation was Freddie's dignity after the idiotic doctors assigned him as boy and instead should be a girl. |

Think this started with an interview Brian did for the Times newspaper. Here's the excerpt It is harrowing to read of Freddie’s final days and the devastating effect the HIV virus took on his body before he died in late 1991. “The problem,” May writes, “was actually his foot, and tragically there was very little left of it. Once, he showed it to us at dinner. And he said, ‘Oh Brian, I’m sorry I’ve upset you by showing you that.’ And I said, ‘I’m not upset, Freddie, except to realise you have to put up with all this terrible pain.’ ” Brian was livid they printed that, don't know if he really said it, maybe off record. He was fuming about the whole article. This is the link to the interview - link |

@LR1 I think nature decided he would be a boy. Don't really think that doctors decide that sort of stuff. |
Stick 19.02.2018 11:34 |
@Bertus Maybe you should look more into this part of Freddie's life. He might have had it amputated. We can't know but it really is a very interesting period of mystery etc as you know. |

Days of our lifes Doc shows Brian saying he looked at the knee problems Freddie had. Freddie showed his knee to Brian and looked at the shocked reaction of Brian and said he didn't want to upset him. Freddie did had some problems with his foot ( look at the Days of Our lifes video footage) and according to the book of Leslie Ann Jones. There was a Leisure that caused the pain at the ball of his foot. But no toes or whatso ever was removed/amputated |
Sebastian 19.02.2018 14:34 |
You know how rumours work: Brian makes the casual comment of some sort of infection in one of Frederick's lower limbs and suddenly it becomes 'Brian confirms, beyond any reasonable doubt, he had a foot amputated.' It's like that 'Show Must Go On in one take' legend... Bri never said that, but people twisted his words, as usual. |
RadioDaDa 19.02.2018 14:54 |
This article is out of context. Brian in a documentary said that at a dinner Freddie showed his leg and Brian was taken back by it. Freddie apologized. Foot amputation is hog wash |
rockchic65 19.02.2018 14:55 |
@queenman Yeah I thought the whole article was shitty to be honest, couldn't imagine Brian having said half the stuff in it. That's the gutter press for ya. |
Invisible Woman 19.02.2018 14:58 |
I think that's not true. Jim in his book said that Freddie had a problem with leg and foot, that he had weeping wound but not mentioned any kind of amputation. Jim said that when they went to look at the paintings in the lounge Freddie refused Jim's help to downstairs. He also said that Freddie was barefoot. I belive what Jim and Phoebe said. Maybe Brian not exactly said "amputation", I don't know. |

Brian actually says the thing about his foot having 'very little left' in his 3D photos book, so it's not made up by a newspaper. He must have said it for it to be in his own work. Having said that, could it be that Brian was so horrified by Freddie's open wound that his memory has exaggerated the image of it that plays back in his head? I'm sure he's not lying, it's just his perception. Perhaps Freddie did have some of the wound removed but the foot must have been still functioning, because Jim describes him managing to just about get down his stairs not long before he died, as Invisible Woman says above. |

Since this day he never left Garden Lodge, as he firmly refused to use a cane or other crutch. |
aristide1 21.02.2018 15:02 |
"There was very little left of it" undoubtedly refers to the foot dystrophy, which is often associated with HIV. Although Brian is ambiguous, the interview is accurate and does not speculate amputation, so his later resentment is without much reason. |
Costa86 22.02.2018 10:27 |
I'm going to do my best to not appear overly perturbed by the unbelievably idiotic posters on what's left of this once great forum. Freddie did not have his foot amputed, nor did Brian say anything of the sort. I'm not a doctor but I do have access to something called Google, and I also have a basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS, which anyone attempting to comment on Freddie's last days should have. Freddie had Kaposi's sarcoma, like many AIDS patients did at the time, before the advent of combined antiretroviral therapy, also known as HAART. If you want to know what KS can do to the feet, just Google "kaposi's sarcoma foot". Without appropriate therapy - which just didn't exist, apart from some short-lasting and dangerous drugs such as AZT - KS would eventually start causing mayhem, and his foot probably looked very worse for wear in his final months. Some of the tissue might have gone due to the KS. |
Stick 22.02.2018 11:59 |
Hahahahaha, "but I have Google!" Your comment would have sounded a lot more credible if you'd just let out that bit. Also, if you want people to read what you post, don't start by calling them idiotic in the first sentence. Anyway, we can guess all we want but all we have are Brians words. We can believe him or not. Nothing more to it. |
Fireplace 23.02.2018 03:29 |
Unfortunately it's true. I won his foot in an auction just recently and it's now sitting pretty in my wall safe. Might've washed it beforehand though. |

If your idea of "funny" is doing research using the most popular search engine on the internet, then I'm afraid it would be pointless discussing anything with some Johnny-come-lately such as you. I've researched the history of HIV/AIDS, and how the disease affected patients before the advent of HAART in 1995/96, for the past eight or nine years. I don't need a jack-off such as you telling me if I'm credible or not. I'm sure you know fuck all about HIV/AIDS. If you used the internet - through Google - you might not remain such a moron. In case you didn't realise, Google also gives you links to peer-reviewed journals (or you can just use PubMed if you're at a university which has access to it), which can give you an deep knowledge of numerous medical topics, and are the best way of learning about such things short of formal training. |

@ Costa Well, I found if very funny and don't like the term LOL. Really weird that typing out laughing is such a frustration for you? Speaking of frustration, looking at how your reaction to me is riddled with insults and curse words I have to conclude you are very frustrated with something in your life. Perhaps it's insecurity about the knowledge you think you have about the subject? That's usually the reason when you get a reply like yours instead of proof with a link to credible sources. What you do is shout and curse. Well done. Thats the way to convince people! It's the Antifa tactic in its purest form and that hasn't worked out well for them did it? Please, for your own sake, calm yourself down, watch a few official debates between experts on a subject and rethink your own approach to speaking in public. We just want the best for you. |

Everyone can use Google but I think that's not the point. Topics in the forum should be place for each of us to give their own opinion, it doesn't matter whether someone agree or not agree with that opinion. I think so. |

I think so.So, if my opinion is that you're, say, a terrorist, or a paedophile, am I allowed to submit it even though I've got absolutely no evidence of that whatsoever? Or, if you want a less extreme example, if my opinion is that Brian May is Scottish (curly hair, Scottish mum), then should you all respect it even though there's conclusive evidence that he's not Scottish (by the fact that he, you know, wasn't born there)? |
Invisible Woman 24.02.2018 16:54 |
@ Sebastian I think that in the threads we could have different opinions, ask questions, have some conversation etc. and I think it's good. Also, there is no guarantee that everything what's written on the internet or newspapers is really true. Yes, you can say anything about me or someone else, but everyone believes in something, more or less, or doesn't believe anything at all. Everyone decides to believe in something for some reasons, maybe because of Google, Wikipedia, because of something else, it doesn't matter. That was what I meant. I didn't mean of biographical, scientific and other accurate and proven facts. Only about opinions on this forum which everyone has. |
Saint Jiub 24.02.2018 20:56 |
Brian May is not Scottish. He is Congolese as far as I can tell based on his dark curly hair. Of course, I could be wrong. If anyone has any information to indicate otherwise, please kindly and politely provide evidence ... but not fake news from Google. Please use Internet Explorer (not Bing or Edge). |
