Comments:
by mistake, the result of my first transfer was in mono, while the source
is stereo. Therefore, I made a new STEREO transfer. If you already downloaded
the mono version, I'd still advice you to get this stereo transfer as it
sounds so much more 'lively'.
Here are the original comments:
The Cross was a side project from Queen's drummer Roger Taylor at the end
of the 80's and beginning of the 90's, in which he took the role of lead
singer and rhythm guitarist (and NOT as a drummer ;-) ). For some more
information on The Cross, you could e.g. take a look at link.
This show made its way to the fans via an obscure cassette only release
somewhere in the early 90's through the Queen fanclub. After that, it was
difficult to obtain a copy of it. The Gypsy Eye label made a 2CD bootleg
release of it in 2002: "Half Queen Appearance".
I've managed to obtain the original fanclub cassette release and made a
new tranfer. I did some hiss reduction, but not too much to keep the
original musical content intact.
The show itself is complete and is one of the famous Christmas gigs with
The Cross with special guests. Their keyboard player Spike Edney was not
present as he was performing with Bob Geldof that day.
The Cross plays a mixture of songs from their two first studio albums. Their
third album was at the time "work in progress". A teaser can be heard, when
they play for the first time ever "Bad Attitude", which would become the
opener of their third album. The lyrics were not finished yet and even the
title wasn't decided on yet. Nice to hear this version of the song!
The audience already expected to see 'some curly hairs' appearing somewhere
in the show and after the main set, it was time for the real fun part :-)
When waiting for the encore, the audience sang a very warm and enthusiastic
"Brian May, Brian May" after which Roger Taylor came back to the stage and
introduced his friend... Brian May :-)
After belting out "I'm In Love With My Car", Roger leaves the stage and
Brian has the stage for himself to perform for the first time live his solo
song "Let Me Out" (from the Starfleet album). Nice to know that Mike Moran
also joins the band now for the rest of the show (co-worked with Freddie
Mercury on the Barcelona album and played piano on Queen's song "All God's
People").
Roger returns to the stage and they play the Queen classic "Tie Your Mother
Down", after which they leave the stage... to come back for one more song.
An energetic and long version of Lucille is the closure of the show, with
Roger Taylor on lead vocal again.
Sorry but how the hell should we download these 2 concerts? The tinyurl link leads to a strange server which really looks like a website made for infecting people with viruses, and if I click on the huge download button, it tries to go to a non-existing website.
