Hello Does anybody know if any of the reissues of "The Game" LPs have the silver foil cover or are they all just gray? I'm really interested in buying one, but none of the shops that sell them tell the difference, the ones I have talked to don't even know which one they are selling (as they have to order the vinyl online as well before selling them). Thanks! |

Do you mean the UK & Europe version has the foil sleeve? |

The original release in UK in 1980 had silver foil for sure |

Avoid the 2015 release, Merily... it's crap. Stick to the original releases. |

A first press The Game record (Germany/Holland, UK or if you must USA/Japan) sounds great. I always use it as a reference LP when I adjust something on my mic or vinyl setup. Mack did an incredible job. But to say all 2015 releases are best to be avoided. I don't agree. (I just reread your post, maybe you were talking about The Game only?) I'm quite pleased with Made In Heaven, Innuendo and The Miracle. Made In Heaven and Innuendo are available in full, instead of the edited versions they were released in at the time. Of course cd's would sound better since these are digital sourced recordings. But if you must have them on vinyl I'd advice to buy the 2015 versions for these titles. |

The 2015 reissue has silver foil looking sleeve like the original, it just doesn't sound as good. |

Yes and no. As a vinyl collector and audio enthusiast I still only half agree with you. Let me try to explain. The Miracle, Innuendo and Made In Heaven are exactly this as well: Digital recordings pressed to analogue. The LP isn't necessarily the best sounding source there. Original press or not. My advice therefor would be: IF you insist on staying true to the original sound of those, buy the first press cd versions. The Dutch cd version of Innuendo sounds better than any vinyl ever produced from that album. Loudness war is a problem. I agree. But let's not fool ourselves: the original USA and Japanese vinyl releases have heavy compressed sound as well. "Loudness war" (or maximising/compressing audio) is nothing new. |

Would you say that those particular albums were recorded on digital in the first place making it perhaps academic whole the remastering sounds? |
dysan 05.12.2017 19:00 |
I believe they were going to do a flat remaster of The Game in original sleeve. But they were.... Wait for it... Foiled again. |

I don't like US/Japanese LP pressings. Also AKOM is digital (DDD) to analogue. LP's for me are a mere souvenir. I will always prefer CDs. |

LP's don't have inferior sound to CD's. For the mos part, the Queen collection sounds better on the original first UK pressings. It's not about the format, it's about the mastering. Although in saying that, there's CD's that come close to the original UK albums. |

Vinyl sounds far more superior when it's an analogue recording, mastered for vinyl, pressed onto high quality vinyl. A perfect example of this is the Beatles Mono vinyl boxset. The best way to listen to the Fab Four in my humble opinion. Of course you'll need a decent setup but that's same for cd. |
