Love of my life from this show is magic ! Emotionally it's deeper than Houston 77' and it's a bit funny when Freddie stops "at your side"... and that some woman screams "to remind you!" ;) Lol, it's like, "to remind you, Freddie, what the heck ? It's your own damn song!" |

The guy has probably recorded the Queen Providence shows. We already had Providence 74 and 80, here we have Providence 78. He says in the description of Providence 78 that it was his 4th show. Maybe he recorded shows n°2 and 3, considering Providence 74 is the first one. These might be Providence 1977/02/10 and 1977/11/15 listed on queenlive.ca? |

It's actually the version I posted here on QZ, from ThomasQuinn's excellent tape, but probably the Breakdown bootleg of it (there is a fade in at the beginning, unlike the raw tape - Paul even uses that artwork from that release). Not sure if he actually taped the 77 shows, or if he just copy/pasted setlists from other shows from that year onto his website. But I'm sure we'll know in due time. He responded to someone saying he may have the February show. |

Band is strong, Mercury is good overall, and It's Late and Brighton Rock are excellent versions (the delay on the latter is even in stereo on this audience tape). Spread Your Wings is very loose and playful, and the acoustic set is excellent. Dare I say this is the definitive US Jazz show, all things considered? Both the quality and performance are top notch. Either way, this was such an awesome listen. Mercury slays in Keep Yourself Alive, even though they've played it at every gig since 1971. This is not a band phoning it in. They are still hungry and giving their all. |

Chopin1995 27.11.2017 11:48 |
WOW!!! Unbelievable! Black Queen intro played by the entire band! What else they played that we aren't aware of? Over 50% of concerts are still not available. Thank you! And let me quote this (regardring 15th November 1977 show) - "My website says it was recorded so unless I made an copy and paste error then its quite possible its in the archives. Unfortunately the archives are in Rhode Island and I live in San Francisco so its gonna be sometime next year before I get back to see my parents :)?" So it is possible! |
Gregsynth 27.11.2017 13:04 |
It's a great show overall. The quality is amazing - one of the best audience tapes of 70s Queen and the crowd atmosphere is very entertaining. The entire band seem to get stronger and more focused as the set progresses. Brian fumbles a bit on some of the guitar solos on the first half (Killer Queen, Best Friend), but by the acoustic and stripped down sections ('39, Love Of My Life, etc) he's in the zone. Brighton Rock is superb and the entire band sound great on It's Late. It's not Freddie's best night overall - has some trouble with the upper register and sounds strained at times, but his voice seems to improve a bit as the show progresses. He's very creative with his voice and does pretty well with what range he has. The March Of The Black Queen snippet before Bo Rhap is awesome. Overall? Definitely a recommended show to listen on the Jazz Tour! |

I was at this show as a 13 year old kid! Blew my mind and still to this day I'm in awe of what i saw that night!!! This taper had and refused to release it but the photo he has of his ticket and the cassette I've had in my collection for the past few years as proof that it did exist. Thank God he finally let it out!!! This was my first concert and it literally change me! I see the video also has a photo of my original ad (that I still have as well as all ads from Queen shows in Rhode Island) from the Providence Journal. If you want to see my photos from that night, go to Bob's site queenlive.ca to check them out. The band seems to be in great spirits and Freddie seems a little more playful. I remember he tossed the mic into the audience at one point and let a few fans yell into it. STELLAR performance by the band and such a great recording! I've waiting 39 years for this to come out and I've finally found my Holy Grail!!!! |

Jazz 78 27.11.2017 17:34 |
I was seated on Brian's side about 15 feet from the side platform Fred used during the show. The PA was flown so it was directly above our heads. We were THAT close. The taper was on the floor and close to the stage about 3 rows back. Not sure if he was center, left or right of the stage. I remember as Spread Your Wings was finishing the smaller acoustic stage slowly being lowered. When they were finished with Tie Your Mother Down, that's when my dad and the rest of us started to leave to avoid the traffic and as we got to the back of the Civic Center, I turned around and saw the stage from a distance and it was just pulsating with light and sound as they tore into Sheer Heart Attack. That was one final look and then we left the arena for our car. Ears ringing off the hook and smelling like pot!!! LOL!!! |
