Alright fellow Queenzoners, I have made a very nice find but yet also a previously unknown find in the process when I recently purchased a Capital Records acetate CD-Single of the Queen + Robbie Williams "We Are The Champions" remake on Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/Robbie-Williams-Queen-We-Are-The-Champions/release/9259301 The release, which I will share with you all in FLAC format, contains the Main Radio Mix which I know several prefer to the main version found on the "A Knight's Tale" soundtrack, but which we've only ever had shared on MP3 format until now. What NOBODY else, as far as I'm aware of, has ever known was that there is another unheard alternative mix, the "Rock Radio Mix," which has NO orchestra in the mix and there are also some other subtle mixing differences compared to either of the other versions which eagle eared listeners among you will surely find some surprise in hearing on your first listen :) :) And with out further ado, Merry Fucking Early Christmas ya wee bastards :D https://www.mediafire.com/folder/kpvi655vlifi9/%5B2001.04.17%5D_Queen_%2B_Robbie_Williams_-_We_Are_The_Champions_(US_Promo_Acetate_CD) So with this find, we can now officially say that there are four versions: Soundtrack Version Video Version (same as the Soundtrack Version with extra dialogue) Main Radio Mix Rock Radio Mix |

Wow! Many, many Thanks! This is very special to me, as back then I wrote an e-mail to Brian himself asking him to please let us listen to this version, as it would be some representation of his work with Roger at that time. Brian himself answered me, that kind man, openly telling me about not continuing the partnership with Robbie Williams, with information that did not become public for quite a while, a year, I guess. I had the impression that I needed to keep that to myself and I did so. Unfortunately I lost that email when switching computers, so I have no record of it aside from my own bad memory. Regardless, a very special and dear memory of interacting with my Idol. Cheers, Ogre- |

If "The Prophet's Song" was, allegedly, inspired by a dream, I'm wonder what inspired Brian's solo on this Canterbury Tales retake of WATC. Maybe a decent percent of the $65,000,000 film budget. As for Robbie, his coming and going exotic island accent is so ridiculous that it actually sounds interesting. Perhaps a subtle reference to Freddie's attraction for black music, or for being an exotic islander himself. Not that he cared much about that though. |

Thank you! |
The Real Wizard 26.10.2017 16:43 |
Excellent find ! Thanks for posting. Brian's solo at the end is magnificent, and even better now that the strings aren't in the mix. |
inu-liger 26.10.2017 17:30 |
Alright, so this is going to get even more interesting. I decided to line these two versions up to try and see what would be heard from essentially cancelling out the audible difference between the two, and this is what I managed to get. I think you guys will be thrilled to hear what's been REALLY buried in the mixes :) http://www.mediafire.com/file/nf0g42ifdzf1jcg/Queen_%2B_Robbie_Williams_-_We_Are_The_Champions_%28Instrumentally_Reduced_Mix%29.flac |

Isn't there a gap in the NOTW raw sessions version where Bri's solo would fit in seamlessly? |
inu-liger 26.10.2017 17:50 |
IanR wrote: Isn't there a gap in the NOTW raw sessions version where Bri's solo would fit in seamlessly? You know, if there was a way they could make a new mix blending the vocals, piano and bass from the original with the instrumentation of the 2001 remake, provided that there is not a hell of a lot of drift between the two versions' tempos, I'm sure they could find a way to work that guitar solo in there :) |
dave76 26.10.2017 18:15 |
I think i have some snippets of the video in one of the Queen docs. I think it was the Killer Queen documentary. |

Fascinating stuff, thanks for the share |
inu-liger 26.10.2017 19:21 |
Also, it kind of hit me today how ironically appropriate the timing of this find was, considering the 40th anniversary of NOTW and all! :) |

It was a shame around this time - they were totally directionless and flirted with anyone half interested as being their singer. This collaboration marked the end of a lot of people's interest in Queen and in honesty, I still don't think they've fully recovered in the UK. |
aristide1 27.10.2017 11:50 |
In the UK they've not recovered since 1979 first live record. High expectations, or it's just the way they treat their royal celebrities? Maybe a longtime UK fan could explain this. |

And you seem to have forgotten about Live Aid and the Magic Tour too. |

Holly is correct. As a long time UK fan Queen had good will right up until this. It was a cheap move that totally alienated the public and a large chunk of fans. Hence, I never went to see Q+PR - only appreciating it in hindsight, and it took me a big leap of faith and nostalgia to see them with AL. Purchase-wise, a few DVDs here and there and a couple of the 2011 reissues. The magic went. |
