Is the moustache there or not? I can't tell. Looks like 78-79 Tour lights and wardrobe which would mean NO moustache. ..unless this was also part of the rig for hot space. ... Where are the specialists to chime in? |

Roger has the neckerchief and John's look too suggests it's '81 / '82. |
Invisible Woman 17.10.2017 09:23 |
It seems to me that he has a mustache and that "Roger" has a long hair. From this angle, it seems that it doesn't look bad, but it's just a photo. |

I mentioned this in the film thread. There's been a few of these come out. Montreal-esque |

Not sure how accurate they are trying to be in reproducing lighting/costumes etc. Fred's gear is from 79 - 81 and the lighting rig looks more like '82 Hot Space but not the same. Details I know!! |

Zooming in to about 300%, the mustache is clearly there: link |

Such a strange looking lighting rig as it seems to be a combination from the 'Pizza Oven' and the 'US Hot Space' rigs. |

Details I know!!That's what my gut is telling me. It seems composited. Maybe this sort of thing wouldn't be noticed by casual fans (*who've only POSSIBLY PURCHASED GH: but most likely have only STREAMED it) But. ....who's the technical advisor? Surely Ratty would've been consulted? I hope they don't have Freddie in gay clone mode during the 70's |

ActionThisDay wrote: Such a strange looking lighting rig as it seems to be a combination from the 'Pizza Oven' and the 'US Hot Space' rigs.Agreed. It doesn't actually look like anything Queen toured with. This is where things could start unraveling, they seem to have a lot of the small details right (from what we've seen so far) but something this big is way off. It wouldn't be hard or anymore expensive to hand this lights differently with different gels to make the rig look like any of or part of any of the 70's rigs. They wouldn't need to be mobile like those rigs were as they aren't being used to reproduce full gigs with full audiences |

Anybody here on QZ INSTAGRAM friendly? I don't like signing up for these things it's always some new bullshit social media platform every 2-3 years and i don't have time to commit to managing 5 at a time. Has anybody questioned the factual basis of this yet? Not like they're gonna stop production or anything hahaha. ... |

I think it looks great A mix of Game tour and H\S lighting and wardrobe A good facsimile of a queen concert- I'd been impressed if they used those lights back in the day RM seems to have the postures nailed, hope the vocals are as good Deffo impressed by the visuals so far Good on 'em! |

Looks alright in pictures where he's facing in the other direction. Wasn't too impressed with the footage of him on stage attempting to act like Freddie though. |

I think they have either gone down the route of a generic lighting rig, in the style of Queen, or they are using this as a way of correctly lighting the band and they will CGI correct rigs in later? |

If it was about correctly lighting the band then usin CGI Ayer to replicate the 70's rig it would have been easier to use modern intelligent lighting which would require less units to provide a broad scope of different colours, very accurate focusing and mood changes.. That rig looks to be made up of Par cans and therefore a deliberate attempt to create a look rather than an accurate representation. If you look at the rig Q+AL used in 2012 that used Martin Mac lighting units (LS5's or similar I believe) which were used because visually they look similar to Par cans and they were going for a 70's feels to the rig but with modern focusing and use abilities. In a way that rig could have been used for this film as it would look as accurate or inaccurate as the lighting the film is using |

That rig is just a vast bank of lights. |

Its a FILM so will have some poetic license you can't fit 15 years of shows/tours into a 2 hour film. It will be a dramatisation of Freddie/Queens story while I hope the facts it depicts are correct I won't be counting the number of lights to make sure its right. Its more important to me that the film is interesting and good entertainment if I want to see and accurate representation of a Queen Lighting rig in 82 I will watch my Milton Keynes DVD....................... |

**spoiler alert** here's how the movie may end... The movie blends between the actors and Queen at Live Aid, merging back and forth (not a DoRo cut n paste) but a smoother transaction.... Then were all left in the cinema with the real Queen/ Freddie bowing out/ ending the movie.... I just don't see anything doing justice to Q at Live Aid.. My personal view is I'd love to see a Queen in Cornwall movie first, leading to Bo rap, then part ii Bo Rap to Live Aid... |

"John's" build looks far too slim and his height's too tall. It's hard to tell anything on "Roger" as his face here is just a cow cake framed by blond hair :D Too femenine in my opinion, based on what i could see,,, "Fred" is ok, but chest and forearms looks weaker as of original. The whole photo though gives us hope for at least good end result! |

Seed_Of_Rhy wrote: The whole photo though gives us hope for at least good end result!Does it? Most cinema treatments of music stars are terrible, Off the top of my head I can only think of a few that aren't: The Buddy Holly Story, The Doors, Ray, Walk the Line .... Great Balls of Fire! too maybe. That's about it. Often it doesn't matter how well cast or well-acted it is: for example, Miles Ahead featured a great performance by Don Cheadle as Miles Davis (ahem) ;) but it was ultimately a let down. It's just a fact that, as a genre, musical biopics are very difficult to pull off. They almost always disappoint. |
matt z 20.10.2017 13:36 |
*Surely, you meant MILES DAVIS (*as in MILES to make the pun work) not Charlie Parker. Totally different person and instrument |
