His albums are really really good. And his Brel nights (2 of which I shared here) are amazing.
I think he suffers from bad management. Certainly ok for his theatrical work, but if he wanted to pursue a more rock concert orientated career (I wish he would) he needs to change it up a bit. Would love to see him doing his 70s stuff (mixed with Brel etc) in a rock setting as opposed to in a brassiere or where ever it was he played this week.
His rock albums are surprisingly heavy - probably something that his stage musical fans didn't 'get'. A pity.
Very proud to have had dinner with him and discussed allsorts of things. There's a great book in there.
Alright what do you think of David Evans' comment about Freddie wanting to own Straker's voice like a possession. I see him producing songs for him as just a gesture of friendly support, not possessive ownership. I like David Evans for keeping it real in his Freddie book (no saintly stuff) but at times it's more that he is the one with jealousy issues not Freddie.
I got the sense Straker is not liked, also!
Hi Dysan,
(you) : "His albums are really really good. And his Brel nights (2 of which I shared here) are amazing. "
Would you have a link to his Brel nights that you shared ? Thanks so much ! ---
I think he's got a great voice and seems to be a fun person to be around going by what I've seen on interviews and the garden lodge tapes.
Does anyone here know the real story why Freddie fell out with him?
