Recently working on the artwork for my project I analysed all available photos made by Queen with George Hurrell for 'The Works' album. There 's a lot of them... and here are several conclusions... There were two photo sessions: The first one is the most famous from the end of 1983. A lot of photos from it were used for various official releases. The second session was made probably in the beginning of 1984 (speculation). John's photo from this session was used for 'The Works' back sleeve. Strangely enough that John's photo was used from different photo session to other members, and in addition it was placed not in the same raw with other members. Roger used his photo from this session on the inner sleeve of 'Strange Frontier' album. Freddie's photo appeared in 'The Solo Collection' set in 2000 for thefirst time and then on 'The Great Pretender' photo album in 2012. Unfortunately I haven't seen Brian's photo from this session. Several years ago photo of the band from this session appeared on QOL.COM site. I liked these sessions as they all looked like it was a sunday night and they'd had a bath ready for school on Monday and were just getting ready for bed. |

Just finally found band photo from Session #2. Updated. |

Hi, I guess you have seen this one already... ![]() |

Oh thanks! Just forgot about this one... |

Fred looks so effing gay. Roger looks so effing beautiful. John's hair looks so effing ridiculous. Brian looks like he is thinking about how much money he is making. |

I think John patterned his head and hair here after E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL. |

Oh. Joking aside, fantastic research! Wonder how you got the dates |

This is nothing special? I think everyone has seen them allready |
| Riku M 25.09.2017 13:26 |

Hi, if you look at milan 84 posters and tickets you can notice a sort of "surprise", there is another take from same photo session of "the works" album cover. i have found this photo only in italian memorabilia from works tour 84. Tour Poster link Ticket 14-09-1984 link Ticket 15-09-1984 link And a comparison link What do you think about? is it used somewhere or only in these examples? |

What do you think about? is it used somewhere or only in these examples? Thanks for this find, but it seems to me the photo is the same. Only Roger's head was doctored (rotated) for some unknown reason... I can't find more differences. Walter B. Only Brian's individual photo is unique but very cropped. If you will look carefully you'll find that all others are cropped from the photos above. I just added Brian's photo to the main post. So It'll be great if you will leave only Brian's (+Freddie's) photo in your post for a better look. Thanks. |

Hi CMI, Is the first picture of John in my previous post cropped too? It looks like a different one. You mean that you want me to delete the pics from my post? No problem, I'll do it later today. |
| cmi 26.09.2017 09:57 |
^ Photo of John cropped from the band photo #2 in the main post. Yes. BTW, Brian's photo is VERY similar to his photo#1 which was used for The Works back sleeve. |
| Walter B. 26.09.2017 10:41 |
Thanks, well spotted then! I have edited my post. |

cmi only apparently the photo can be seem the same... and yes for many years it is been also for me the same but a good observer can notice other differences in brian head posture and facial expression, roger head position and fingers, freddie leff hand fingers and maybe john left arm... ok maybe this is not a great or an importatnt discovery but you could to be agree with me that it is particular because we can find this only in italian poster/tickets... maybe behind there is simply story about a wrong image sent to advertising company :) link |

^ You're right indeed. I didn't notice different fingers position of FM and RT. Also the absence of JD's right hand on the photo at all. Thanks! |
| Innuendo1k 26.09.2017 11:29 |
thanks to you for this good thread! :) |

What a fantastic thread, love this sort of thing. I dug out my old Fan Club magazines from 1984 and in the Spring Issue there is what I always thought was The Works album cover cropped to fit a single page. Now I look closer it is indeed a slightly different shot, the differences are minute but they are there. The placement of Freddie's hands are so very slightly different that no-one would ever notice unless pointed out. Can't upload it here but could send it to someone who could. |
| Innuendo1k 26.09.2017 13:38 |
Very good slightlymad1970! :) i have check fanzine spring 84 and is it true we have another shot, yes another because is different from album or italian poster here it is link |
| cmi 26.09.2017 19:07 |
Excellent! Just added this alternate shot. UPD: Another shot of Roger from session #1 is added. |

^ Yes, the last added shot of Roger is from this compilation. |

^ wow, that last one is bizarre - an 83 photo on a 91 album. What country is that from? |
| dysan 02.10.2017 15:20 |
I think it's Saudi. EBay throws up some impressively bizarre dubious cassettes. Love the reshuffled tracklists too. |
| cmi 09.10.2017 13:10 |
Folks, does anyone of you have this USA compilation LP from 1984 in collection...? Please contact me. Thanks link |

I have it |

Just sent you a PM |

Slightly different to the first picture posted I think?![]() |
| cmi 11.10.2017 08:48 |
It seems you're right. I will compare them more closely ASAP. Thanks. |
| dysan 02.11.2017 10:02 |
There's a couple in the official 2018 calender. Can't see if they're slightly different to ones included here. The same I imagine. |
