Hello friends,
I enjoy Iron Maiden as much as Queen (or a bit more lately). We know that they supported Queen at Rock in Rio in 1985, so I would expect them to participate in the Freddie tribute concert in 1992. Does anybody know or have a guess why Iron Maiden was not there that day?
I agree, BM is friends with the band he played with Bad News when they supported Maiden back in the 80S and Bruce Dickinson played with BM and RT on the Smoke of the Water remake. He also covered Barcelona with Montsy.
Sanctury borrows the Keep yourself alive riff.
Bruce knew Freddie and his favorite song is who wants to live for ever.
Also in reincarnation of Behamim song, Maiden's producer stated that they used Brian guitar orchestrations. And that Brian is the Gate keeper in Rock

Probably because they are awful. Having been there I am most thankful they weren't.
I'm a big fan of Iron Maiden. Not many bands have a frontman who also flies the band around the world in a 747. Doens't get any more rock'n'roll than that!
I grew up on Maiden, what I know is Bruce is a big Queen fan, didn't know his favorite was who wants to live forever, but obviously a fan of Freddie and Brian. He sang Barcelona and I want to Break Free. Also, on the first Record they had to remake the song Phantom Of The Opera on their first Record because the original sounded too much like Queen.
Mooghead, Don't think so. They mentioned it on the Documentary of the early years of Maiden and how the original Phantom was so much better than the album version, but the Producer said it was a Queen ripoff so they chose to change it. It's probably in the archives, but will probably never hear it.
I know Freddie and Bruce met, I wonder what type of discussions they had. I just remember the story of the Rio gig where they booed freddie off the stage because he was wearing drag, and Bruce saw how upset freddie was. He felt misunderstood that night accordind to Bruce.

Not many bands have a guitarist who has a doctorate in astronomy!
And it wasn't a 747! And the truth is that while Bruce flew the band he was a flight crew member who shared the duties with a more senior pilot!

Fair enough but Bruce is still a dude. He was also a fencer and could quite easily carve a Z in Brian's chest before Brian could even take his clogs off.

Yeah. ...but without the sword, Brian could always just hold him at arm's length (*not that they'd fight or have any reason to at all)

I find your premise that Bruce would not have a sword with him at all times to be quite improbable.

This I believe to be true, however not only is Brian 18 feet taller than Mr Dickinson he also has the weighty neck of his guitar with which to club Bruce over the head with thus rendering him even slightly shorter than he would already appear!
Rock n'Roll is a tough life!
I love Maiden myself but in fairness, there was already a lot of heavy rock bands there and Freddie wasn't all about heavy rock - even though that was part of his life (big fan of Zeppelin, Hendrix, Rory Gallagher etc).
Metallica, Def Leppard and Guns N Roses were all arguably bigger than Maiden worldwide at the time and Extreme were a relatively new band but very obviously influenced by Queen.
Brian and Rog said they had to turn some artists down, I would love to have seen that list.
I was surprised that the Quo weren't there really, given how friendly they were with Queen.
