A few weeks ago I heard that the acrylic panels were being removed and that the GARDEN LODGE door was repainted. Now I go to Google Street View and the house is blurred link Any news? |

1. renovations 2. request for privancy granted source = your posting :-) |

The stronger Plexiglas panels replaced the original ones around May, but were completely removed shortly after. At the same time the Plexiglas was installed, the house disappeared from Google Street View. Recently the gate was changed to a plainer one (that has since been graffiti'd in Spanish). I assume Mary Austin applied to Google for the house to be blurred out. Though I am not sure what she hoped to achieve by that as everyone knows what the walls look like and how to get there. You can only see the very top/roof of the house from outside anyway, so hiding a brick wall from the internet is pointless. If it makes her feel better, then it's all good, I guess. |
matt z 30.08.2017 14:20 |
^ that u know any of this is key into why people would apply for privacy requests. But like u said...at the end of the day it sounds pretty pointless. |
YAWN 30.08.2017 14:27 |
No - I only know this because I am in a Queen Facebook group and people constantly post selfies outside the house (and argue over it). Believe me, there would be nothing more boring than lurking outside Mary's home day in, day out! |
TRS-Romania 30.08.2017 15:20 |
Well, Mary certainly has the right to ask Google to blur the house. Maybe she even paid Google for it (she just earned 450.000 GBP gross dividends -as she holds 50% the estate- from Queen Productions.... Not bad knowing that Brian, Roger and John each made 1,500,000 GBP in the last year .... albeit gross dividend income. Page 20 (dividend results Queen Productions) last tax year) link Page 8 Shareholder A/B/C/D (Queen Productions) description (D = Freddie Mercury Estate) link |

people on streets 30.08.2017 21:21 |
never understood why she wants to live there anyway. |
Costa86 30.08.2017 22:23 |
^Yeah, why would you want to live in a beautiful, large house in one of the best areas in London, which was once the home of someone you loved greatly? I'd prefer some studio in Peckham, preferably above an off-license. |
flash00. 31.08.2017 00:22 |
Mary seems like she's trying to make it harder for any fans who don't know where Mr Mercury's Boudoir is ha. I wonder if she still owns the small mews property next door? And wo is living in it, She can forget about privacy as long as she's living in that house, Graceland comes to mind. I would of thought Brian and Roger QP etc would be earning a lot more than that etc. |
c.jory 31.08.2017 13:04 |
She does live in the mews I think, though obviously I have no idea if she uses that more than the Lodge itself. I took my friend from Ireland to see Freddie's homes, and we saw her going into the Mews, as opposed to the main gate. I know it's her choice and her property, but it does feel like she is stopping fans from seeing it. Maybe she gets a lot of crazies coming by. Unfortunately it's a public street in a busy area and her garden is surrounded by lots of taller buildings so it was never going to be totally private. I even wonder why Freddie wanted it, considering it is so overlooked and he was supposed to be so guarded. |
Silken 31.08.2017 18:22 |
What's the point of blurring the house on Street View? Everybody knows where it is. When I thought I would never be able to go there, I was happy to at least see it virtually. Now she's preventing many people from doing that. A couple of months ago I finally got the chance to go; there's not much you can see from the outside anyway. |
popy 02.09.2017 01:59 |
Graceland is a museum, not a house were people live. I think that by bluring the house, she only makes fans even more curious to visit the place. Bluring it has precisely the contrary effect than what she thinks it has. |
c.jory 02.09.2017 07:58 |
I agree; it's a strange move. I have to say, she seems to be of a petty nature though. A relative of mine works for RBKC (Kensington council) and says Mary and her ex husband Nick caused a lot of problems with the neighbours, constantly fighting to block various planning permissions and generally throwing their weight around. Mary seemed to have the idea people wanted to build extensions for the sole purpose of looking into her home and questioned why some houses in the street opposite Garden Lodge had any need to be built at all(!) Her letters were rather smug, snotty and in the manner of a spoiled child, criticising people's gardens and the aesthetics of their architecture! One of the neighbours she was fighting with was Dame Diana Rigg, who lives a couple of streets away. My relative and colleagues used to say she had let her inheritance go to her head and believed herself to be the Queen of Logan Place. |
Invisible Woman 02.09.2017 08:43 |
It's been a long time and I think that house is no longer same house when Freddie lived there. And if I had a chance I wouldn't go to see because I think I couldn't see anything. |

LOTV wrote: Well that is a shame. Mary has taken the wall of tributes perspex down and it looks like the doors are getting fresh paint. Been sold perhaps? If this is the case I hope nobody buys the house and it will become Freddie Mercury Museum or something like that, but it's unlikely :( |
matt z 06.09.2017 01:31 |
I doubt they'd ever sell it. Unlikely unless in future generations the income is somehow squandered and it's utilized as such (a museum).... I suspect something close to that with regard to one of my heroes: Charles Spencer Chaplin, in CHAPLIN WORLD. One day I intend to visit Vevey Switzerland for that purpose |
jenss85 06.09.2017 01:48 |
If you read his will, at the end of the day after the death of Mary and his sister all the money goes to children's charity. I don't think she could sell it. Read it in a David Evan book. Interesting |
bucsateflon 06.09.2017 19:48 |
That house will always stay with Queen. |
philip storey 15.09.2017 16:33 |
When you compare the Garden Lodge to Rogers massive estate it is not that grand really. It was just because it gave Freddie the London nightlife which he loved so much.Mary went against a lot of Freddies wishes throwing everybody out like she did when Freddie passed away. |

Jim Hutton and Peter Freestone were told by Freddie they would be able to live at the Garden Lodge, unfortunately it was verbal and not in the will ,so it made it easy for Mary to get them out.Still it was against Freddies wishes but I suppose with everything that was going on ,it was not something to keep going on about ,who gets what when Freddie was going to die. |
Sponge Caves 28.09.2017 08:40 |
Mary finally has a sign up with threats of prosecution for graffiti. People need it spelling out, because they will just rock up there and assume it's allowed if they see it. She should have done this ages ago in my opinion. I wonder why it took 25 years! |

Two years ago, two friends of mine went to slip notes in behind the perspex (they wrote stuff about what Freddie means to them) then they decided to write on the wall. Mary Austin literally saw them do it, walked past right as they were writing on the wall and she said nothing. So this led them to assume the perspex was there for that exact purpose! |
Sponge Caves 28.09.2017 08:53 |
Probably not relevant, but they said she is now fat and was wearing a grey tracksuit and loafers, had four inches of grey roots and messy hair "but her face was still the same" lol Ok it is relevant because many ask whether she still lives there. The answer is yes and she went into the Mews building rather than the main gate |
enbits 20.01.2018 15:12 |
Most probably she lives in Garden Lodge but uses the Mews to get there, because there's a gate that connects both properties. That's a more private way to enter Garden Lodge. |
enbits 20.01.2018 15:19 |
Actually, according to Jim Hutton's book, Freddie decided to give the properties to Mary Austin, but 'Jim, Peter and other assistants could stay there as long as they want'. This quoted part was only by word, but not written in the statement. Of course it wouldn't make any sense that they would be eternally living there if Freddie decided to give the house to Mary, so after Freddie's death Mary gave them around 3 months to prepare for moving out. Mary was with him before he became Freddie the legend. And she helped him financially during those early years, so in the end it makes sense that she got the house. |

Negative Creep 25.01.2018 12:17 |
Right, so he would have expected Mary to live there with people she didn't really know? Sure. He was hardly going to to tell them to fuck off himself either, was he? You/we have no idea what was said or agreed - this is just the usual anti-Mary agenda. And anyway, who are these morons that still rock up to the house and write nonsense on the walls and why do they do it? What do they think they're achieving other than defacing someone's property? It's 2018 not 1991. No respect. |

I’ve never read anywhere that Freddie told Peter and Jim they could continue to live there. Freddie set them up with finances and some with homes for that exact reason. |

@radiodada yes the info is true with Freddie saying those things to peter and Jim (unsure about Joe the chef ) about staying in Garden Lodge and buying homes etc. I don't think Jim would of stayed after getting a good slap in the face from o'l Mary, aww poor Jim. @dudeofqueen Ha ha classic, Mary on Tinder I agree worth a hit..... |

Roger would get bloated after the full retirement. Brian would join a musical John would be John. 2020 we'll get Greatest Flix 1,2, & 3 on DVD with cropping. A Kind of Magic will be released in SACD with BLURAY content. Upscaled and cropped THE MAGIC YEARS with 4 vinyl discs in 4 colors. The content will be dj remixes of the singles from the album. No film content masters will be released. No alternative film mixes. The inserts and documentation will all be incorrect and refer to cooking instructions for baked sheep's stomach and sheepskin condoms. The release will get 5 stars from ROLLING STONE due to Payola schemes. The set will tank. As will the following HIGHLANDER remake, featuring up and coming teen rappers. The Quickening will not occur - merely the Pandering. Brian will be seen 5 months later looking like a greyscale Captain Lou Albano. It will be horrifying to QZ alumni.....and several will take their own lives in frustration and protest.
