...while president of the United States is trying to limit the 1st amendment ("open up the libel laws"), suppress the freedom of the press and promote complete relativism ("alternative facts"), QZ's resident far-right troll is trying to pull a Goebbels and blame the left for what the right is doing. |

Nice of you that you did not mention Hillary's emails :-) The whataboutisms by conservatives are really breath taking. While their Führer destroys the structures of democracy and threatens the world with nuclear war, we hear nothing but whining about the left taking away rights from the conservatives. Your country has been snatched by a bunch of fascist oligarchs, you are ruled by a billionaire family and their friends, please wake up and stop attacking kittens while you ignore the tiger. |

Everywhere in the developed world there are growing percentages of people who want it to be the 1950s again - where everyone is white, and where people with a grade 4 education can get a job and a house and a lawn mower. They're tired of "educated liberals" telling them they can't be racist or work in coal mines because the elitist scientists are saying the world is going to end if they do. Uneducated people, even as a small minority, have an extremely loud voice, and they're pissed off because they've been ignored for decades. But in the US particularly - the one thing they're right about is that trade deals and neoliberalism have outsourced a lot of their jobs. And the godless liberals are eroding away their church too, which is the centre of their community. They're scared because their way of life is disappearing. And they aren't going away. Said fascist oligarchs just got smart and picked a guy to be president who sounds a lot like those uneducated people to talk a different talk, but he's walking the same walk as the other Republicans before him. If you are rich and influential, it's a great time to be an American right now. But for everyone else, the country is circling the drain, whether or not they see it. |

I am aware that the "system" is not fair for the majority of people in Europe and the USA. I am aware that people are easily led to believe that a strong Führer will solve all their problems. How anyone can be so stupid to believe that Donald Trump is that person is beyond me - a guy who has outsourced his own production to China and Bangladesh. But in this thread I am angry about the claim that it's the political opponent who is the real threat to democracy and not the Führer. How can educated people claim that some students blocking a road on a university campus (just an example) is a bigger threat than this despicable guy who throws bombs on other countries during dessert and does not even know which country he just bombed. A guy who openly attacks the free press, who does not respect courts of law, who brings his family into power like a tribe war lord in Africa and who rules the country from his golf resort like a private enterprise. How can a person with self respect defend this leader - I don't understand it. |
Costa86 04.05.2017 05:15 |
What amazes me is how quickly people have forgotten that the Führer was democratically elected, and what all that led to. They say those who forget their history are bound to repeat it, and they're right. |

YourValentine wrote: How can educated people claim that some students blocking a road on a university campus (just an example) is a bigger threatThe key word is "educated" - most Americans are not educated, as their education system sucks, point blank. link Of course people receive high school diplomas, but the standard is nowhere near that of Germany, Norway, or Canada. In rural America there are religious fanatics trying to eliminate science from schools - and they are not minorities. And there is little sex education in these places. There is no coincidence that the states with the worst education have the highest abortion rates. I could go on and on. By land mass 98% of the US is Republican. Only very small urban areas have high concentrations of educated people. So it does not surprise me that a reality star who ran a fake university and dreams of grabbing unconsenting women by the pussy is now the president of the United States. |

It's their own fault. And 2% of that 30 have buyer's remorse. Screw 'em - as if the signs weren't there. I feel bad for the remaining 30, and no more. It's unfortunate that the rest of the country does not have the tools to understand how stupid they are, so I do not blame them for it. But I don't feel bad for them either, and they certainly don't want anyone to - they think they know what they're doing, and that they've got the best president since Eisenhower. |

For starters, there's barely a LEFT movement in US politics, aside from Bernie Sanders. The US is the only country in the world where you can be a moderate centrist, and be called a leftist. And still many think that the far right stands for freedom. There has never been a government with an extreme agenda that has worked for the people. |

There has never been a government with an extreme agenda that has worked for the people. That's because the "American dream" mentality of stigmatizing the idea of receiving help from anyone else has driven most left leaning policies to the rubbish bin. It's seen by most Americans as shameful to accept help in a society where "making it all on your own" is the MO. This has made it ridiculously easy for the corporate right to capitalize on. Combine that with neoliberalism and corporate tax cuts, and the result is sacked unions, a non-existent middle class, and worse health care than Cuba. The only "freedom" that the right wing provides is economic freedom, but we've long ago learned that trickle down economics doesn't work. That money creates jobs, all right - in India. The experiment that is USA is in its final stages. Now that the person being investigated by the FBI fired the top person investigating him, a yes man will be put in place, and the kangaroo court system will be complete. Full unfettered power like a dictator, and 1/3 of the country thinks he's the greatest thing since Eisenhower. Nope. It's over. |

This photo is a piece of genius. It sums up America in a nutshell: link They have equated even a slight interest in renewable energy with being unpatriotic. This photo represents the success of the corporate right, because people are falling for billboards like this by the millions. |

She certainly isn't anti-capitalist or socialist: her favorite demographic is the self-employed middle class and small business. |

You seem to have trouble grasping the difference between the liberal-conservative axis and the left-right axis. Warren is very liberal on the lib-con axis, but very centrist on the left-right one. |
