I cannot listen to QE's live version of The Show Must Go On and NOT think of Freddie singing - how he might have sounded in his best voice at that time, early 90's, had they been able to tour. I have been a proponent of Marc since before the QE talent search (check my posts), and I completely understand the need for a giant band to only take out a giant guest lead vocalist (AC/DC + Axl, etc) but what about bands like Journey, who give the fans the sound and the heart and soul of the music that they want, name be damned. I would LOVE to see even a one-off show with full Queen production (Brian, Roger, Spike) and let Marc lead - he may not have Freddie's charisma (who fucking does?) but he'd fit the aural picture like no one else - and he looks enough like Freddie to give pause. I know I'm completely dreaming and unrealistic, but I honestly have more hope for that than seeing any decent Queen anthologies in my lifetime... |

I think a lot of people would love to see Marc front Queen for a few shows, simply because he would absolutely do justice to the songs and could handle ANY of the catalogue authentically and respectfully. However, I can understand the dilemma that Brian and Roger face in that if they DID go out with Marc, lots of people - and especially the media - would crucify them as simply trying to replace Freddie with a clone. They can't really win; Adam is as close as they can come to Freddie in terms of the camp charisma frontman type thing, but Marc absolutely has THE voice. Whether you like Paul Rodgers, Adam Lambert, John Farnham, Five etc...etc... you can't help but respect Brian and Roger's determination to never represent Queen as having another singer...THEY are Queen, and are always billed as 'plus 1' whenever they play. I am continuously galled by hardcore fans of Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Kiss et al that scream to high heaven (and with no sense of irony of appreciation of the rotating band members in their favourite acts) that Queen isn't Queen without Freddie, whilst singularly ignoring the fact that Bri and Rog always even make that clear themselves, and that whatever singer of the day they have is NOT actually a 'member' of Queen but just singing with/for them! |

Wasn't it Roger that said, it was too weird to be on the same stage with Marc because he sounds the same as Freddie ? |

I think the band playing with a bone fide Freddie impersonator would be more offensive than the current nonsense to be honest. |

^ not really the best case you could make for him being a straight up impersonator. He doesn't wear a moustache to the QE gigs, so he's not your garden variety 'yellow jacket' guy. And it's also not even a whole moustache - it's a visual gag. I dunno, I've never seen a guy get hammered so hard for being the best at his job! |

As good as Marc Martell is. And he is very good, why would Brian and Roger want to tour with someone who sounds like the one person they can never perform, or write and record with ever again. There are many fans who want to see them, but how many of those people at the end of the gig would feel or say it/he was good but. . . . . I think what a lot of people haven't thought about is, you can never fill the void Freddie left and, someone who sounds like him but isn't him could actually make that space seem a lot more obvious than someone who is just a singer with their own voice and persona. Marc works brilliantly in QEX because it's a tribute and not Queen in any form. |
