Hi guys - just wondered how many of you got this, and if there are any known issues with it?
I bought it on day of release, but didn't have a working turntable. Last month, I got a new turntable, and was looking forward to listening. It jumped and skipped throughout, and sometimes didn't even make it to the end of the single, just cutting out as though it had already met the dead wax.
HMV took it back and ordered a replacement. Took cellophane off and box was badly bumped and dented....and singles all skipping and again cutting out.
Bad luck? Bad batch? Surely I'm not the only one this has happened to.....
Also, who do I complain to, exactly? It's not HMV's fault....Mercury Records/ Virgin direct?
You're right! ....don't know why I didn't check that first before posting ;)
Just teasing, mate: the turntable is new and everything else works fine. Over past month or so I've bought the Studio Collection vinyl box, On Air, Hits, Hits II and Live At The Odeon. All Great! vintage vinyl also playing as normal, so defo the box set. I've sent a wee e-mail over to the distributors to find out what happens next. I don't want to go through HMV again and risk them thinking I'm ripping the piss.
Mine was perfect.. no skips, no scratches, no bumps, no dents, nothing
my only complaint was that they probably used the master as the CD since it was mastered a little loud for vinyl.
also - keep in mind it *might* be your turntable or even cartridge... remember that these are 45rpm vinyls which also play closer to the spindle. a little more attack than a 33rpm.

All other vinyl playing perfectly, including singles, new pressings and old. Took it back to another HMV today and they said they've had a few returns of it.
I know, thanks :)
No gripe with the store, though and know they'll always refund without issue....
I reckon there's a bad batch from the pressing plant, or that QPL just don't do quality control. My new Live At The Odeon LP plays well, but looks badly marked. My On Air vinyl is gorgeous and plays well, but poor sleeve design means ringwear to sleeve.
I know it looks like I'm moaning, but this is really happening lol - they just don't care.

Not only Queen.
First batch of the latest Nick Cave LP was a disaster.
Good news is: so many people complained and returned the record, it got a repress wich is perfect.
Bottom line: sometimes complaining does help.

HMV. Because that's the retailer you got it from.
It's not your responsibility to complain to the manufacturer. It's the retailer's responsibility. (basic consumer law in most European countries)
While we're on the subject - I remember having to return the Greatest Flix I & II boxset (on VHS!) because the last of the bonus tracks (I think it was either Liar or KYA?) ran off the end of the tape. I think I had to return it twice or even 3 times and eventually said to HMV that I'll just have a refund. Never heard of that problem before or since.
Cheers guys - seems it was a bad batch sent to the store if everyone else's copies were okay. They did say they'd had a few returns. Got a refund but no replacement as of yet - I'll go elsewhere and hope for better luck lol.
Got a third copy through the post yesterday, new and sealed from an eBay seller. The first few singles played perfectly - already an improvement. Thought I was in luck...until the fourth single, and same problems.
To reiterate....all other vinyl playing perfectly on record player, both new vinyl and vintage. Have played the new copy on another player, and it's skipping on that also. So definitely a production issue. For all who've said they've not had any problems with it....have you played the box all the way through??
I'm giving up and keeping this one I think, as it won't be a regular play anyway and we all have the music on other formats. Just so bloody annoying though.
Quick update: you wouldn't expect to have to clean new vinyl, but I decided to try it with this set. Little shards of cut vinyl came away from the grooves, and I got an almost perfect result afterwards. Some of the singles (4 of the 13) still pop a little, either on the A Side or the B Side, but not both. So, getting there!
Thankfully I had a good seller who gave me an extra discount off the offer price. So got for £75!
Happier lol.
