I've been looking at some AC/DC video's lately and came across AC/DC's "Who made Who". I watched and thought how similar it looks like Queen's Radio Ga Ga video, just look at the camera angles and movements etc. Turns out their both directed by David Mallet. It show's but i never knew that.
Indeed! I believe Mallet has directed almost every AC/DC music video and live release since the 80's. In my opinion he's a great director, his Queen and Freddie mercury solo videos are gold.
Too bad Queen started using DoRo guys more towards the end of the 80's. For example, both Miracle and Breakthru had great music video concepts, but quality of DoRo is somehow cheap (cheap is propably the reason they chose DoRo!). Instead I Want It All video, by Mallet, looks grandiose, even though it's simple "live" video.
It's also shame that Mallet never directed any of Queen's concert releases during Freddie's lifetime.
Say what you say about AC/DC, but their Donington concert film looks glorious: link
Imagine if Mallet directed the Queen Knebworth show in the same manner :)

If only. That was a great AC/DC video. Thanks for sharing.
To sums things up, i think David Mallet is shit on how he chooses the videos to look, making everything overbright or over exposure and adding a layer of fog. Not talking about camera angles, the use of cranes, etc, but how he makes the videos look like.
He ruins almost everything he touches by doing that. U2 Popmart, AC/CD No Bull and Donington (River Plate is much more watchable than those 2), Queen + Paul Rodgers In Ukraine comes to mind.
And don't get me started on how Remember That Night by David Gilmour looks. It's a complete dump and unwatchable. So much that i returned the Blu-Ray to the store. It's the worst thing i ever seen on Blu-Ray, It might as well be released on VHS, since on many shots it looks like Wembley first night with so much grain and ghostly images (yes, i know Wembley was directed by Gavin Taylor). I'm VERY glad he didn't do more with Queen and i hope he doesn't do more with bands i like.
Although i concede that Radio Gaga and I Want It All have that look because they are videoclips, using that kind of look on live concerts i think it's completely wrong.
