Since a proper Blu Ray release of promo videos doesn't seem anywhere close, I decided we should do something to improve the viewing experience. This meant tracking down the best quality version(s) of certain promo clips and making them clearer, sharper and more film like (those that were originally shot on film, obviously). Majority of the stuff is sourced from 1997 Greatest Flix promo DVD. Hammer To Fall for example is sourced from GHV 2 because David Mallet made a fresh film transfer (though he cut it to 2:35.1, *but* it has more frame on the sides compared to 4:3 version) and it looks better than anything else. Same thing for Radio Gaga (haven't got round to it yet). Anyway, screenshots below. link . https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/deee/56feglpx5k7rt1r7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/5e2e/inc36j4iqnkn1977g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/c8f0/dl15yk8bgygkg3b7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/6f79/k1ofo5ktlt8pkkn7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> IAHL has been cut to 16:10 to avoid any frame loss. I used the GVH DVD. It required replacing all the Metropolis scenes with a higher quality version, and degrading it a bit to make it look similar to the 'car scenes'. Even with degradation it looks miles better than it did originally, so no worries. Also, some of the wide scenes were originally squeezed so I had to stretch them to match the 16:9 frame and look natural. Generally, aspect ratios change all the time throughout the video but the file remains 16:9, like the source, with 4:3 footage being pillarboxed. And then there's the rest of the usual process of making the image a bit sharper and better, etc. But that's hardly worth mentioning. Added 3 audio streams from the DVD - DTS, PCM and commentary track. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/cacf/avvgozoktwaqzqw7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/ecf6/r4m57at5pc7kssk7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/98b7/zy4c3i3qgmiw6bt7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/4b3d/o4u73521qwjcmsw7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/8b21/raxbyw7f3o8py6l7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/a0bb/z0jldw6e4t06dgg7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/ea4a/e6mec80w26gc3mo7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/43da/it43yfu1vjtsxap7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> . |

I'll have to use Chin's reply because it appears I have reached a limit of pictures per post. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ AOBTD added. I thought the frames are blended due to conversions but upon closer inspection that doesn't appear to be the case. Someone clearly thought that motion blur would fit there as a nice creative choice, it was applied when they edited it back in 1980 on tape. It's a typical frame blending artifact. But EVERY frame is blended. So that's my conclusion - motion blur on purpose. We can't avoid that so we done what we can. The image is a lot brighter and more colourful and a bit tighter overall. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/3b5b/7dh1vsk1zcwzvkw7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/15a7/2lm18kc71ikpplo7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/341d/geu9k8n4z2pnon37g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> . We Are The Champions added. Again, just like with AOBTD, all the frames were originally blended so nothing can be done about the odd motion blur look. Somewhat fixed the intro & outro of the Flix by inserting the GHV footage. And the rest is the usual process. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/667a/q9fmu04p43mk1cp7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/428b/03512zfrf4afp307g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> . I'm Going Slightly Mad added. A good source. Made it slightly sharper, slightly clearer. Removed rainbowing artifacts (the random colour spots which is often a problem in video tapes). That being said, it's not just B&W'ed, the original colour tint (ever slightly green) remains and the coloured bits remain as well obviously. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/6c76/3qkrdln4sdbo13z7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/c3bb/vjf5gzec63c6dck7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/e556/88q7mbzsr5746667g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> . |

just look the video, and it's phenomenal. The only problem is the aspect ratio, you could do it with the 4:3 next time, instead of the 16:9. Anyway, beautiful project. thanks a lot |

If there is a "film aesthetics buried underneath the video tape treatment", as you say in another place, there is also an aesthetic of the illegal shares (I mean one can spot this kind of things). Stage performance colour footage is in 16:9. B/W footage in the middle is in 4:3 and is cropped from top and bottom on GVH2 DVD. So best way to make a proper aspect ratio is to rescale original 4:3 b/w footage to 16:9 to match the stage performance footage. |

Or just leave it the way it was originally edited (in 4:3) |

Gaga will likely have to be 16:9 with 4:3 parts pillarboxed. It is also likely I'll have to use GVH DVD for Gaga because it features the newest film transfer, David Mallet must have done it specially for that DVD. Same thing applies to Hammer To Fall, but they made it 2,35:1 which I'm not sure yet how I feel about that. |

Can't you make them 16:9 pillar boxed? Personally, I'd choose to trim the right side a little more than the left to get rid of that round edge at the top right. ">link |
BETA215 26.10.2016 13:20 |
The best, IMHO, would be to crop any unwanted black border. And in the case of 4:3 video, keep 'em that way. If you have a 4:3 TV you'll enjoy it, and if you play it with your 16:9 TV/PC you can crop it temporarily with the TV system, VLC Media Player or other players. So you keep the image and everybody can do what finds comfortable. |

"""""Queen isn't offering this stuff for sale. It went out of production and retail ages ago."""" I agree and I'm 100 % with others on this. That project as all your past projects are tremendously good and origin in your well-meant advertisement of the band's legacy in a greater quality. DOUL 2011 docu extras showed what COULD be done with these promo videos. Queen Prod. should take your doing as an example as majority of the great bands out there have released their greatest hits in an improved quality either via streaming or on Blu-ray. But it won't heart if we ask Richard Orchard or YourValentine what do they think about putting this stuff here.... I'm not a member on this forum since it was established but wasn't a generally consensus accepted between this forum and Queen that we can put all we want here as long as it isn't copyright infringement ? |

Fantastic stuff, Chief ! Just a slight nitpick - One Vision and Save Me have the beginnings and endings of other songs cross-faded in the audio. |

Thanks again. RW - It would be a pain to try and sync Save Me to PCM audio as the speed does not match. One Vision can be easily fixed using the existing PCM audio track in audacity. |

Update! Radio Gaga was probably the most extensive video so far. Added 3 audio streams from the DVD - DTS, PCM and commentary track. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/cacf/avvgozoktwaqzqw7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/ecf6/r4m57at5pc7kssk7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/98b7/zy4c3i3qgmiw6bt7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/4b3d/o4u73521qwjcmsw7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/8b21/raxbyw7f3o8py6l7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> |

Great work, Chief. It's insane that you don't work for QP - you are more thorough than anyone they've got there, as evidenced by most of their products over the past 20 years. |

Thanks Mr. Mouse, it might just be my PC but this one seems a little out of sync. |
Chief Mouse 25.01.2017 07:20 |
I don't think so. It should be exactly the same as the original because no frames were cut and audio is untouched as well, just muxed onto the video. Perhaps in some parts the original wasn't edited perfectly in sync with Freddie's mouth movements. |
Chief Mouse 25.01.2017 07:30 |
This is one video which I don't think has actually any improvement at all. But it's an alternative version just in case you want to download. |

Man, the Headlong video is such a great piece. It's amazing how much fun they had, considering what they were facing. They sure did cherish their time together. It was probably the closest they'd been in over a decade. |

AOBTD added. |

Suggestion to Chief Mouse: Heaven For Everyone. link I don't know if the Blu-Ray contains all the films/versions used on the videoclip. Or if there are other Blu-Rays with those other films. So my suggestion is edit these as you did with Radio Ga and Metropolis, find the Queen clips used and superimpose them as in the original videoclip. What do you think? |
