When i look on the excellent website superdeluxeedition.com, there are always announcements about exciting box sets from other artists. When compared to them sadly Queen are lacking so behind. They used to be so pioneering in the past, but they seem to be so out of touch with what people want these days. The forthcoming Queen on air should have been a bit more comprehensive in the live material department. Every artist pretty much does super deluxe editions of their albums these days, but Queen choose not to. There is so much potential for comprehensive releases of all their albums. I have used the 'A Kind of Magic' album as an example. I have made a list of what could and should be the ultimate release for this album. I know i am living in a dream land, but just look at what could be a fans dream product. I know there is some recycled product (but that's no different to what Queen do anyway!) but in some ways it would be nice to have it all in the same package. It's a big shame it will never happen. Here is my dream super deluxe edition of A Kind Of Magic. Let me know what you think? |

It would be great but it's what you've read on the "Queen ON Air" subject here on the forums. In one of the posts GB said that he will pass on the remark that even only audio release of a concert could be well received by fans and joe public. Just that fact states how far back behind the music market they are. I like your project very much but imagine that you're the archivist and you're coming up with something like this and then JB, RT and BM are saying things like... hmm let's throw this out of the project. Hmm... maybe let's release Mannheim as a stand-alone product in the future.... Basically you would get very stripped down version of your project. |

Yes, we all have interest in large deluxe editions for each album and some of us try to compile large track lists with all known versions no matter how they differ to each other... For me it's very questionable how well content is compiled even by fans... I don't see above any track list that I want to find on possible official release. For example I don't think this sequence is very clever: (also I don't think you know the differences between them) Gimme The Prize ('The Eye' Remix 1) Gimme The Prize ('The Eye' Remix 2) Gimme The Prize ('The Eye' Remix 3) Gimme The Prize ('The Eye' Remix 4) especially back to back with Love Makin' Love (Queen Demo) Butterfly (Demo) Friends In Pain (Demo) Back To Storm (Demo) You Are The Only One (Demo) Do you know the difference between these tracks?: A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling (B Side) A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling (Extended) Is it really useful to place them both and back to back? And there's a lot of such examples... There's no need to mash up studio with live recordings! Each tour can be presented on its own with great box set with out a problem. |

Dave & sithmaster34 (and I can't BELIEVE I'm entertaining a sithmaster being of the Jedi persuasion myself....... ;-}), don't be disheartened. If this is something that you LOVE listening to then more power to you my friends. These pricks telling you how bad you are either haven't got the amount of material in their own collections to actually be able to do this for themselves and are insanely jealous or are, simply, the trolls that we know them to have been for so long. Personally, I never like mixing live and studio material as, to me, they are completely different BANDS in virtually every single instance (not just limited to Queen), but I get the feeling that you're looking at this as a career documentary and, in that respect, it works bloody well indeed. I prefer full shows in all honesty so pretty much wouldn't countenance buying a live box set that featured highlights from them on stage. And, I run with the Deluxe Edition format too, so studio album, then the b-sides and alternate mixes then the out-takes. I don't include karaoke material or snippets from The Eye etc as they, to me, were not issued for home stereo comfort......... Each to his own sewerage. Good work chaps and hopefully, we'll see more contributions along these lines as it beats constant complaining. |

^ It's very easy to call users as 'pricks' and 'trolls' and nothing offer as well... By the way, check out my signature. |

cmi, this is great and I love the detail in the artwork and liner notes - brilliant to see that fans are so capable when the band and the people that they pay to do things like this are the polar opposite. Wish I had the time and the talent to our together something like this for Queen, Queen II, The Miracle, The Works with all the official material available. I'm not 100% comfortable with piecing and stitching together tracks from various different releases, but hey, very very clever work. |

CMI, that is simply amazing. I will follow your expanded studio collection project from now on. Are you gonna do all the albums? |

Must admit i was a bit too over the top with my tracklisting for my boxset idea, but being a fan of Queen for nearly 30 years it can't be helped! dave76 and CMI loving your ideas too :-) |

Can't blame you, man. It's better than what QPL puts out. If you wanna have another go at making another tracklisting, might I recommend you look up the upcomig Pink Floyd The Early Years: 1965-1972 box set as inspiration. This is a textbook guide as to how to make a box set, that and The Who's My Generation Super Deluxe Edition. |

sithmaster34 wrote: When i look on the excellent website superdeluxeedition.com, there are always announcements about exciting box sets from other artists. When compared to them sadly Queen are lacking so behind. They used to be so pioneering in the past, but they seem to be so out of touch with what people want these days. These days? More like the past quarter century. From the HR 'remasters' and putrid remix add ons, 'The Freddie Mercury Album' and TGP, 'Rocks', Greatest sH*ts III (good concept, very poor implementation), 'Deep Cuts', the 2011 2CD reissues with so much empty space on each release (a complete set list for a 'Live Killers' release would have been nice), the recent Freddie 45 vinyls set, the QC issues with Roger's box set, 'Forever', and now this. Kudos for Wembley, Milton Keynes (though I miss the original beginning and the 'bloody record' line) and Rainbow, Also for Montreal and Hammersmith (other than the artwork), though I already had copies. And now, which should have been a slam dunk after the overlong wait for the BBC is incomplete. As is the Golders Green concert. A nice 3CD package with the complete concert for $20 would have been a smart and wise thing to do. And either find someone has some artistic talent, or just use the original Beeb or BBC covers As to AKOM, I made up a much smaller anthology a couple of years back, with a rearranged studio tracklist, plus two discs of extended and alternate versions, demos, and some of the orchestral songs from 'Highlander'. So I understand all the bits you added (and kudos to cmi for the really good sleeves). |
