DVD-A has an insane dynamic range, no wonder you like it. Of course, you need powerful equipment too fully enjoy it. I believe they reduced dynamic range on Blu-ray to make it more compatible with 99% of the surround systems, which are not audiophile at all. But don't think it's necessarily a downgrade. Returning to the original album dynamic range (of the mix), and still keeping the benefits of higher resolution, could be a good thing for the musical perception itself. As impressive as it is, DVD-A has some distracting "Industrial Light & Magic" moments. I prefer the stereo 24/96 LPCM containing an almost flat transfer of the 1/4 inch original mix master. |
