Indeed. A shame they didn't provide for the whole thing at the time, but one can always add on the official version near the end to make it 'complete'. link scroll to 'All God's People (Work-In-Progress Preview Mix)' Always great to have these additional trinkets that SHOULD have been on the 2011 releases. Thanks. |

Very cool listen ! Most of the final parts are there, with a few different voices and guitar parts, and a much simpler drum part at the end (pretty sure it's Roger and not a drum machine - the bass drum sounds just like I Want It All). Listening to these early versions and alternate takes really does clarify that they made all the right choices for the final mixes of their songs. The voice that ended up on the album at :22 is far better than the guitar part heard here, and getting rid of the extra cycle of instrumental before the verse was bang on too. That was probably David Richards stepping in. |

From Queen vault: All God's People (Work-In-Progress Preview Mix) 1:52 Written by Queen/Moran Appears on: 13 Track Preview cassette for Capitol Records In late 1988, a 13 track cassette was sent by Queen to executives at Capitol Records in the USA. The cassette served as a preview to their new, as of yet unnamed album. The cassette had excerpts of work-in-progress song versions to satisfy the curiosities of Capitol Records. Five of those tracks have leaked freely amongst traders (Scandal, Too Much Love Will Kill You, The Invisible Man, I Want It All, and The Miracle). All God's People began life as a Freddie solo track pre-Barcelona. When Barcelona came along, his current solo project was discarded in favor of his duet with Montserrat Caballé. The rumor is that Brian was going to play guitar on this track and Freddie was going to lend some vocals to Brian's yet to be finished album. As Freddie and the band became aware of his health, plans changed. All God's People ended up becoming a Queen track, finally becoming fully realized on the Innuendo album. This version features some different vocal bits from Freddie as well as some unique guitar bits from Brian. The backing track doesn't seem to be very different in this clip. |

And bit by bit we can compile our own anthology set because very likely Queen will never give us one. Thanks Sikke for yet another gem from your Queen vault. I'm starting to wonder who has more. You or QP :-) |

Thank you. Not a great fan of the song, but I welcome the chance to hear the differences. How many years now since the 'Anthology' has been spoken of? |

I wonder if the imminent switch to Hollywood Records was driven by Queen, or whether Capitol didn't think much of the teaser tape for The Miracle and 'let them go'? They hadn't been bothered with them for years anyway so it's possible..... |

Great version. Hope this tape will leak someday.... Indeed most of the final version was recorded in 1988 |

It's a shame they all fade out just as they're getting interesting. I'd love to hear full versions of these. |

Regarding Capitol, they released 'The Miracle' in the USA. I believe it was the last album Queen was signed with them for. Then Hollywood Records snapped them up. Press releases at the time clearly stated Queen's dissatisfaction with Capitol and one of the reasons they signed with Hollywood. Capitol but a decent push behind the INITIAL release of 'The Miracle' album ('I Want It All' got good press, and did decent here), but then they just dumped the remaining 2 singles ('Breakthru' & 'Scandal') out on the market with no hype at all, and both those singles went nowhere. A true shame. I remember laughing at one of the articles - I think it was in Billboard magazine - at the time... where one of the Capitol Records executives was quoted as saying "We're letting music lead with this album." - which was another way of saying "We're not spending much money on publicity." Morons. |

Breakthru could have been a decent hit for sure. |

^ No problem. I'm looking after all the Miracle demos I can get in FLAC. If you can send me the demos in a PM, I'll be very grateful. |

Only due to shitty remixes tagged onto poorly mastered albums (some with glaring errors..) Queen did a real number on Hollywood Records..... pretty sure there was nothing about a band member death in the huge contract. |
Sheer Brass Neck 02.09.2016 22:10 |
^^^ Not so sure. One of two things. Generally businesses will get insurance involved with talent in most fields. My guess is that Hollywood knew Freddie was ill (he missed high launch party on a ship which is odd for a group on a new label) and the four album deal was basically for older material. Other words they knew he was dying, everyone shut up and profited immensely. |
