Overall, QPL hasn't done too bad in this department. We've had a couple of lovely eighties live releases.
And recently we've had the wonderful Rainbow '74 package and finally they came around to releasing Hammy'75.
While it is good to have these releases I feel that the bonus content is often very unsatisfactory. For example they could have easily given us the 2 Wembley concerts COMPLETE in 2003 but only did that in 2011....
With Rainbow and Hammy they decided to release a big box and while all that plastic/cardboardbox is lovely, a true fan will regret not having MORE MUSICAL CONTENT. We all fell in love with this band because of the great music, not because of lovely stickers or pins!
Now, there are obviously some biggies yet to come. A 1977 and a 1979 box come to mind.
I would just like to ask QPL to please include ALL POSSIBLE MUSICAL CONTENT in these releases. If Yes can release 7 concerts from 1 tour, then Queen must be able to do the same... (imagine having several unheard Live Killers - or even better - Crazy tour shows...)
Those big expensive boxes would make a lot more sense if way more UNHEARD music is included. The wealth of material that *probably* exists of 1977 and 1979 should not be reduced to just 1 or 2 concerts...
QPL, give us the lot! Be wild and innovative and bigger and better as the others. Be QUEEN!
Rainbow '74 was good as it was complete for the first time, bonus footage was nice, but: Autotune was unnecessary, footage from 31/3/74 was edited too much. Well, I'd like to get raw footage of every show, but the colors were weird and not real light too. I saw what they did to Hyde Park '76 and Earl's Court '77 in From Rags to Rhapsody documentary and this is not good. Again, the autotune.
As for the Rainbow '74 release:
They could feature both November shows in complete form in box set for collectors. But no one bothered to do extra work for historical purposes or to please fans (buyers of box set) for the same income.
There's no really interesting information for fans/collectors in hard book. We still don't know which track from which show was used...
...and no one still didn't explain why the 1st encore from March wasn't included.
Rhys Thomas said that the audio of 1of the 2 Rainbow november '74 nights could not (or only partially) be used.
I think the few march songs not included was due to technical reasons too.
Still, from 1977 and 1979 they should have a lot more usable material. All they have to do is release it in a lovely box like Pink Floyd does now for their early years.
I hope they slip in Hyde Park with any potential 1977 release. Hyde Park is my #1 wanted gig (maybe together with Hammy 79), because of the awful sound we currently have.
The sad but true reality of the situation is that whatever may be said here, or voiced on the Official Forum has zero impact on what the band do or don't release. The most recent example being "the exciting Freddie project" of the abysmal solo 'collection' vinyl release. I agree with so much of what has been said here and certainly elsewhere. Problem is, we don't have any control of these matters.
