QUEEN: EXPANDED COLLECTION 2011 year saw the reissue campaign of the whole Queen catalogue in remastered form from fresh transfers featuring some bonus material. Unfortunately for me it was the weakest back catalogue reissue campaign I've ever seen so far... All albums were presented in the cheapest form in (super) jewelcases with thick booklets without any useful information. There were no real deluxe treatments which is a shame. Bonus CDs were limited to 5-6 tracks for each album so poorly selected featuring only 1-2 real rarities for each album. It's especially a shame as it is very well known that there's a lot of interesting stuff in the vaults which can be used. Especially for '82 - '95 albums with a lot of various material previously released on singles. Another weak aspect of this reissue campaign is the quality of the sound. Some 70's albums now sounds better than ever with fresh transfers from masters, but the sound of albums from '80-'95 period was so dynamically overcompressed. So last year I decided to produce the whole back catalogue the way it deserves as I see it. Main goals of this EXPANDED COLLECTION project are: 1) To compile available studio material of listenable quality around each album into one set with clever structured track list for each disc to present the most accurate view of particular period. 2) To select the best version available for each track from all available sources (different CD pressings, vinyl transfers, tapes). 3) To feature some newly created special versions of tracks. 4) To remaster each track in 32 bit to my standards featuring careful removing of clipping and other unwanted digital/analogue artefacts (crackles/clicks/pops etc.). Each album set will be presented in FLAC format files for each track with artwork in 300 dpi jpeg for printing and pdf booklet with all original artwork and main information about the album. Currently available: 'A KIND OF MAGIC' 2 CD set: link 'MADE IN HEAVEN' 2 CD set: link 'A DAY AT THE RACES' 1 CD set: link 'JAZZ' 2 CD set: link 'THE MIRACLE' 3 CD set: link 'THE GAME' 1 CD set: link 'QUEEN II' 1 CD set: link 'THE WORKS' 2 CD set: link 'QUEEN' 2 CD set: link 'FLASH GORDON' 2 CD set: link 'HOT SPACE' 2 CD set: link 'SHEER HEART ATTACK' 2 CD set: link 'NEWS OF THE WORLD' 2 CD set: link 'INNUENDO' 3 CD set: link 'A NIGHT AT THE OPERA' 3 CD set: (coming next) |

Really interesting! Thank you very much. I also like that you've splitted each song into a single file, rather than the whole album in one file (like you did in AKOM). Looking forward to check out your next albums ;-)

Far out, this is a beautifully crafted release. It’s interesting that Too Much Love is held back for The Miracle. What if Queen Productions were to have ‘correctly placed’ Too Much Love on the 2011 releases? The fan-forums would slaughter the decision. Yet, unofficially we appreciate the omission of Too Much Love. I for one love the decision to leave it out of this collection. The artwork on these two releases is gorgeous. I feel the same excitement I felt when Queen originally released these albums. So, for that, I want to thank CMI for reminding me what it feels to rediscover these albums. Cheers mate. I don’t recognise the You Don’t Fool Me (Dub Dance Mix). I’m not a fan of the overtly dance-mix versions of this song, but it is nice to hear anything new. I recall being fond of the ‘Knebworth Mix’. New takes on ‘It’s a Beautiful Day’ are always wonderful to hear. The composite mix is great! The instrumental versions are also a wonderful listening experience. It’s an amazing collection crafted with passion. Thanks for sharing it. |

It's always interesting to read listeners opinion on your works! Actually I only recently discovered this unique mix, as I always thought this is a simple edit of 'Late mix' (thanks to QueenVault.com) but it's not. As you see I completely omitted all YDFM (awful) remixes by various DJs which I don't accept on an official Queen (PL) product... But these two mixes ('Dub Dance' and 'Late') are both created by late great David Richards (R.I.P.) and are quite exciting and features some unique sounds omitted from the album cut. |

One Year Of Love (Alternate Version) Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (New Version) What are these? I assume PISCTP is the extended version/single version edited in a structure similar to the single version, and the alternate version of OYOL again uses elements from the extended version from the Highlander metal DVD-set? |
||
cmi 12.08.2016 10:32 |
No, OYOL is unreleased pre-string arrangement version with small guitar solo. Yes, I used PISCTP extended version to restore full intro and guitar outro in the single edit. BTW, check out the TXT file inside for details. |

Here's an UPDATE of "Made In Heaven": 1) Mother Love (alternate outro mix) is added to CD2 2) Artwork is reworked using better scans. I'm still in search of full size images of 'sunrise' and 'sunset' shots. 3) A Winter's Tale (Cosy Fireside mix) is bettered using different approach to restore the original squeezed dynamics from 2011 release. 4) Description TXT file is added. 5) All FLAC files now feature tags. |

yes but... can you provide some details about it?
cmi 21.08.2016 01:10 |
Well, there's not much additional material for 70's albums, so there will be instrumentals, some old remixes and some new mixes. For example 'Tie Your Mother Down' needs to be remixed as it's one of badly mixed tracks on the album. |

A thought - if you've included Love Kills, then why not include Let Me In Your Heart Again !? Also, I'd still keep Too Much Love Will Kill You on MIH, even if you're going to include it on The Miracle. The track listings as they were released really should be maintained, but I'm all for a disc 2 with alternate track listings. |

The track listings as they were released really should be maintained, but I'm all for a disc 2 with alternate track listings.Actually it's very difficult question to find the right answer... I see 'Love Kills' and 'Let Me In Your Heart Again' as different beasts. 'Love Kills' is a newly re-arranged (by BM on his own) recorded piece (with only old vocal track) as most of 'Made In Heaven' album was done. Actually I can't hear any mentioned rhythm guitar part from JD. It seems to me it's only a QPL hype (they like to do it as you know). 'Let Me In Your Heart Again' is an old track not reworked/rearranged but finished with some new overdubs. It still sounds like 'The Works' track at least for me. So I think it will be the extra on this album. 'Love Kills' sounds like modern recording which it is. Now I think that 'I Can't Live With You (Rock retake)' is similar to 'Let Me In Your Heart Again' in the approach to the track. Also I think that 'Lost Opportunity' is more suitable for 'Made In Heaven' as it was recorded in the same period/sessions as 'Winter's Tale' and 'You Don't Fool Me'. So it's really possible that I will change the bonus content for MIH. Always open to discuss these things, so any thoughts are very welcome... TMLWKY was always an alien on MIH for me, even before I find that it's the only untouched track from previous sessions which was added to the new album. This track was so close to release in 1989 as part of the album appearing on the U-Matic master and even on promo Capitol cassette. I like to listen to it much more in context of 'The Miracle' album. There's no any true ballad on TM and there are many on MIH. So for me the listening of both albums now is more balanced. Of course there's no words here to use 'All God's People' on 'The Miracle' as this track wasn't completed in 1989 and was never planned to be on this album. So it will be in the right place on 'Innuendo' album. |

Hi CMI, thanks a lot for the hard work and for sharing it with us, of course! This is how things should be officially done, but sadly we all know this is never going to happen. Unfortunately for us, any artist/band is a decade ahead (to say the least) of QPL's releases policy, but we're already used to that, so there's no point in complaining anymore. we're lucky to have good folks like you and Matt here ! :-) listening to MIH these days... excellent job !! I'm not a big fan of your decision regarding the ending of IWBTLY, but as I used to say to Matt when he was around, this is your baby and you can't please everybody :-) keep 'em coming, can't wait for the next one ! |

And what do you think about Mother Love alternate outro version on CD2? BTW, I know that a lot of people don't like the mish-mash at the end of 'More Of That Jazz' track. What's the best to do with the track for expanded 'Jazz' album edition? Remove it in the album track or add 'clean' version as a bonus? I'm in dilemma with it... |

Add a clean version as a bonus (I would've done that with IWBTLY too) and leave the original album version as it is, so you allow those who dislike the original version to change it for the alternative version, and those "purists" like me to keep enjoying the album as originally conceived, while having an alternate take to listen to from time to time. |

Awesome stuff. Still haven't downloaded Made in Heaven yet but spent whole day yesterday listening to A Kind of Magic. Your work is fantastic! |

Yes, of course... but later about it :)

cmi wrote: And what do you think about Mother Love alternate outro version on CD2? BTW, I know that a lot of people don't like the mish-mash at the end of 'More Of That Jazz' track. What's the best to do with the track for expanded 'Jazz' album edition? Remove it in the album track or add 'clean' version as a bonus? I'm in dilemma with it...You leave it as it is AND you make your own version. I've always looked at your remasters as being just that - remasters of the album tracks without any additional material or remixing. (although in some instances you've failed to keep to that, for example The Works....) Remixes are for the bonus CD! |

LONG AWAY (instrumental) Newly mixed track using 'Rock Band' stems of the song. Hang on! "Rock Band" stems? Where did these come from? I thought I was on top of the stems until now.... |

Once again a phenomenal job on a great album!
soxtalon 10.11.2016 09:14 |
Great job again! One purely subjective question...If you are going to break apart the intro from TYMD why not the outro as well?
cmi 10.11.2016 14:55 |
^ ^ Here's my point of view… The ADATR album actually doesn’t feature an outro which can be classified as a composition. After Teo Torriatte we have only a reprise of a Shepard tone melody which was a link between the ‘Introduction’ and ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ as well. With this approach we have a circle in an album. The ‘Introduction’ composition in its 'clean' state ends with final guitar chord/gong around 0:45, after that we hear Shepard tone melody link to the next track for about 15 seconds. You can see the note ‘Introduction - May’ under Tie Your Mother Down lyrics inside the LP gatefold, but there’s no ‘Outroduction – May’ note under ‘Teo Torriatte’ lyrics. Examples of similar approach: Electric Light Orchestra ‘Face The Music’ 1975 and ‘Time’ 1981. There’s a lot of untitled string sounds between songs throughout these albums which nothing to do with songs they link. |

Fair enough! I admit I was hoping you had full versions of the Reel To Reel bits (TYMD, YTMBA, TT) that were shared as samples here and were going to surprise release them in this offering :P What's the next album to be worked on? |

Not sure what you mean...As in he could ask the right people to contribute? It would seem to be as good a time as ever and a worthy way to "release" them. :)

No, unfortunately I still don't have these tracks. Even if I will receive them from someone, I'm sure I'll be asked not to share them as part of these sets. By the way... link |

Like I said - worth a shot! :) Your pic isn't showing up for me so I headed over to BZ zone to see if you posted it there - and it still didn't work but what I got from a reply is that it's Jazz? If so....excellent! I'm assuming this will be another one disc-er most likely. Not a lot of archive material has leaked for Jazz.... and pity about the other tracks. I knew that was probably the call either you didn't have them or you didn't have permission...but it would have been a helluva way to introduce 'em :D |

Bit late on the uptake here, but these are great. The alternate MIH outros (Mother Love/IWBTLY) are vastly superior to what's gone before. Nice to have all the various edits/instrumentals in one place, too. Thanks you, CMI. |

What you did with I Was Born To Love You is cool, but I think that should be for disc 2. Call me a purist, but when you start changing the actual album it's getting dangerously close to George Lucas territory .. ! I'm of the opinion that albums shouldn't be touched, and on bonus tracks it's an open canvas. Besides this - MIH is wonderful ! Great job on the track listing and the mastering. The extra bits of guitar (about a minute of it) and Roger vocal in the last You Don't Fool Me were a complete surprise to me ! And I'm prerty sure there's another bit of Roger vocal out there in another one of those remixes. |

But yours appears more like 2005 - are you sure you don't have them reversed in your collection? Or did you use har-bal or something to lighten the effects of the compression? Another tidbit for the Magic album - I've had this short version of Princes Of The Universe for about a decade. It's labelled as a demo, but clearly it's the final product, or very close to it, just without the vocals. It reveals a guitar orchestra at the end (and a lovely diminished 7th chord @ 0:41) that's buried underneath. |
||
The Real Wizard 29.11.2016 13:47 |
Whoa, the extended version of Pain Is So Close To Pleasure has some guitar not on the studio version. @ 4:40 to 4:50, Brian is seriously unleashing his inner Eddie van Halen. Particularly in the climb at 4:43. In case anyone's wondering, this stuff is precisely why alternate versions of songs are so interesting. |

As I hear it is similar to the very end of alternate version I used on CD1 of AKOM, but with guitar instead of final vocals. Probably Brian recorded guitar for (almost) all lead vocal melody/phrases. These guitar licks unfortunately omitted from the album version but partialy used for both unreleased mixes. It would be great if the instrumental version with all this guitar work was released on single as the b-side back in 1986. BTW, This guitar solo is superb and is the best thing in the song for me. |

After downloading and taking a look I had a few quick questions.... a. I could be wrong but I thought the Royal Orb set was released in 2011, same as the reissues...I looked at Amazon and that stated it was released Dec 5, 2011. Now I know Amazon often mistakes their dates as well which is why I bring the question here... b. I see that on the main album for both Leaving Home and Don't Stop Me Now you used the two sources but no details as to why - was it to fix something, or to expand on something? c. What is the reasoning behind expanding the single edits? I've seen you do that a few time where you take a single edit but give it a full ending, etc. Doesn't that basically defeat the purpose? Either way this has been a grand undertaking so far and I'm loving reexploring these albums in superior ways. You have a great knack at taking the best sounding versions! |
||
cmi 16.01.2017 09:49 |
^ Thanks for your post! a. Yes, indeed. My fault from the previous release. Corrected. b. In both songs longest endings were restored and there was a small glitch (lost samples) in main source of 'Don't Stop Me Now'. Corrected. c. I restore edits which don't work for my taste. I think the fade out of 'Fat Bottomed Girls' ruins the whole song. The same reason for 'You Don't Fool Me' (single edit) from 'Made In Heaven'. |
||
soxtalon 16.01.2017 13:00 |
^ a. Excellent! b. Cool. Figured it was something similar - but figured it was easier to ask than try to figure out exactly what was going down. c. Fair enough - you're project, you're desired result :D |
||
The Real Wizard 17.01.2017 01:01 |
CMI - excellent job, as always ! I especially love the extra ad libs from Freddie in at the end of Fat Bottomed Girls from the 1991 remix. Nice that those are in there. Just one question from me - why does the "instrumental" Fat Bottomed Girls still have the vocals at the beginning and in the choruses? That would make it a karaoke version. Bicycle Race is an instrumental, and the same thing is possible with the Rock Band stems. Would you consider doing that !? I've attached an approximation of it, but my sources are lossy. |
||
cmi 17.01.2017 01:48 |
^ Bob, thanks for your questions. Yes there was a consideration to use true intrumental version of 'Fat Bottomed Girls' mixed from stems but the reason is the quality of available 'Guitar Hero' stems. It's 'very' lossy as I can call it. There was an attempt but I discarded it in the end. I think I'll make another approach to mix true instrumental version in the future... Probably it will be a mixture of three sources to create the most complete instrumental version. |
||
PiotreQ 17.01.2017 03:29 |
Thanks, CMI! Looking forward to hear your work :-)
soxtalon 17.01.2017 07:57 |
Forgive my ignorance here and maybe this post is as much for another thread as this but I'll see where this goes....If you have a Hi Definition mix of something....what exactly does that mean? I mean is it a true remix or is it basically a process that makes things cleaner, crisper, etc....I ask here because if you are going through the efforts of finding the best audio for the basic album...why wouldn't we use the hi def mix of Teo Toriatte or in this case your own hi def mix of Bicycle Race as the new "standard" album version?
brians wig 17.01.2017 08:59 |
Hmmm. Personally I'd have preferred Jealousy as it's always been, ie, no bass kick....! |
||
cmi 17.01.2017 09:20 |
2soxtalon: MAIN ASPECT: All albums feature original stereo mixes restored/fixed/remastered. So I don't replace original mixes with newly produced remixes because of clarity or something. One exception is 'Jealousy' which is a semi-original stereo mix for known reasons. All new remixes are added as an alternative to the original mix. 'Bicycle Race' for example now features the original piano during the a-capella intro which was omitted from the original mix. |
||

I was thinking how the CMI logo should look more like the EMI logo - but then I got thinking further: Why not write Queenzone just like the Parlophone logo. That would be cool :) Also, thanks for this. I find it interesting some issues having longer fade outs of tracks. I genuinely thought I was the only person who noticed this stuff. I'm not sure I get extending the single edits either, but it's your project. Maybe add in the pure single cut too :) |

I don't plan to add US single edit of 'Liar' or US promo edit of 'Headlong' for example. BTW, 'Fat Bottomed Girls' full ending was restored on 'Greatest Video Hits' DVD in 2002 even when they didn't have any rushes to fill the video gap. |

I have to say, I hope one day you'll work your magic and create some surround sound upmixes of a few albums. I guess you'd do a far better job at creating "rear speakers" than just using the results of a simple vocal cut.... |

This is astonishing - simply astonishing. I look forward to these with the same excitement I do for official releases - possibly even more so. There is literally no way to fault your work. I have a lot of stuff that's on here already (such as the 11 minute Stealin' version) but yours sounds so much better. I'd never heard Dog with a Bone before. It's amazing. Great work mate. |

Thanks a lot for "The Miracle" expanded edition! Sounds great and looks like a tremendous amount of work here. The work in progress CD is excellent, it's a bliss listening to the band jamming the songs out in such a great sound quality. |

OK - let's just come out and say it....... We want: QI QII ;-) ;-) |
||
dysan 27.05.2017 03:18 |
Just a note about albums like Queen II - would it be possible to present segued tracks as one long individual track as well as the stand alone cuts? Would certainly be a thoughtful and useful addition.
cmi 27.05.2017 14:55 |
All released standalone versions will be included on QII & SHA. All standalone versions from QII were made by C_Matt and still can be found on his Revisions. I don't want to use his work without permission... |
||
dysan 30.05.2017 08:37 |

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Does anyone here burn CDRs and print the artwork from these collection or only use it as digital release FLAC+PDF ? |
||
moonhead79 06.06.2017 15:01 |
At the moment just flac+pdf but i would like to burn all the tracks in a single dvd or blu-ray audio. Some friends are burns everything on cds and print the covers professionally and the results is really excellent. |

Wow, just wow. I can't imagine, how much hard work and lot of effort was put into this release. Thank you very much! PS I have just "re-discovered" Khashoggi's Ship (full length version from CD2). It sounds so fresh, so "complete" and deep now! This song is really good (I have never liked it too much, but now it is great IMO).THANKS! |
||
cmi 09.06.2017 05:07 |

moonhead79 12.06.2017 11:40 |
First of all i used a great software called Audio Muxer. It used to create dvd or bluray audio. just put the tracks in (flac or wav) and it create a wonderful disc. So i decided to create some picture with title and description of all the tracks. When i put my disc in the player i can hear all the tracks with their related description. It's just for personal use, just an hobby but the result is nice for me.... Sorry for my english ;) PS: how can i upload an image? Thanks! |

cmi 25.06.2017 08:24 |
Actually that's a question for me... First 15 seconds of the track on 2011 CD2, what is it? I think it's the tail of take 1 and then they start take 2 with vocals and guitar.
moonhead79 25.06.2017 09:12 |

Super! One question that I can't be arsed to check - was there a reason that Tie Your Mother Down from The Best Air Guitar Album In The World Ever was left of ADATR? I was in the pub last night and they played it and I was surprised to hear that it has 20 seconds of the WWRY guitar solo at the start. |
||
cmi 25.06.2017 17:07 |
^ There's nothing special in this track.
dysan 26.06.2017 00:52 |

Hi CMI, thanks for this fantastic work. Why you not include here the Hollywood Records Remix of Dragon Attack?
dysan 26.06.2017 12:04 |
Those inlay pictures are still some of my favourite Queen pictures.
cmi 26.06.2017 12:25 |
Freddie rey: I don't use any dance/rap-oriented remixes produced by third party people - only stuff truthful to the original music. They're not worthy for inclusion for me and I'm sure almost for all fan base... dysan: Ha! Now you can update your avatar with high quality image. |
||
dudeofqueen 26.06.2017 13:30 |
Thank you cmi - this is truly a great addition to anyone's collection. I wonder if the powers that be have been made aware of your work and hanging their heads in utter disbelief.......... Jim Beach: "A fan has put all of this together?" John Deacon: "Yeah, amazing, eh? Given the wealth of stuff we have and those rubbish EP's we put out, it's hardly surprising......." |
||
cmi 26.06.2017 13:38 |
^ LOL Actually I don't know any Queen-related archive release which is perfect. Every product needs to be fixed in one way or another... Is it really hard for them to do everything right? Probably Wembley '86 25th AE 2DVD set is ok. |
||
dysan 27.06.2017 02:07 |
@CMI I'm thinking more using it as a poster :)
dysan 27.06.2017 02:09 |
To be fair though, I'm not sure I've seen any reissue that has no flaws. Bowie always has them (most notable were his 1990 Rykodisc series - made even worse by the label being small enough to really focus on each)
cmi 27.06.2017 08:00 |
Small update on the A Kind Of Magic collection. Track #18 was added to CD2. All artwork connected to this addition is updated as well.

dudeofqueen 01.07.2017 06:26 |
cmi, re: >37 years ago today... Hard to believe, isn't it? And in all honesty, I believe that The Game is the one album that has really stood the test of time. At work yesterday, in the office, a radio station played both AOBTD and Save Me. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the anniversary of the album release, but listening to it all again (although not my favourite Queen album by any means), you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was recorded yesterday. The production and the ideas are so incredibly fresh and exciting; there's not a single duffer on there. Something tells me I'm going to be re-visiting this for a while now........ ;-) |
||
cmi 02.07.2017 06:06 |
It's hard to believe as it's my year of birth as well :) One thing I don't like about 'The Game' - it's TOO short. 12 songs would be much better... |

||
cmi 04.07.2017 09:03 |
Which one do you mean as on 'official'...? I used original photo for PDF and alternate (which was used several times on later official releases) for booklet. BTW, I'm looking for high quality scans of both these photos taken on the day of CLTCL video shoot. |
||
moonhead79 04.07.2017 10:58 |
Ooops! I just see now the pdf! Sorry! I remember that the alternative cover was used for theCrown Jewels box set and the SACD version. The original was used for several release included the 2011 version. Thanks for the quick answer! |

I don't know if this raw scan could be useful but i try to help. This is a scan of the CLTCL cover and this is the same photo of The Game cover. Obviously this is the coloured version but if there is a wizard of photoshop could work for an update of the cover. |

cmi, .....you're sure you don't want to release it in the month that they were THINKING of recording it dude? ;-) Was listening to your ADATR again last night and it is absolutely incredible the care you've taken over all of this. The Millionaire's Waltz just stood out from being a track I'd ignored for a LONG time to being just incredibly lavish and intricate in the same way that TFFMS was before it. And your different takes on TYMD show a wonderful attention to detail. Thanks again! |

Super work again. Never too keen on the remixes, but that SSOR is great. I can't remember who did the edit of MOTBQ on here after the Deep Cuts version was released that added the extra 'DAH!' under the vocals but that is still by go to stand alone version. Personal note: Being a fan whose entry to Queendom was collecting the cassettes in the 80s it really brings back memories seeing the track listings written unfussily on a white background. Nice touch. |
||
cmi 21.08.2017 07:59 |
^ 1. Actually working on this project I've found that SSOR has the most dull sound on the album. So the remix of this song is very welcome. 2. The best standalone version of TMOTBQ (and also to all other segued songs on QII) was made by C_Matt several years ago. He added final kick/crash to the song. I really recommend to listen to his 'Queen II' Revision. 'Ogre Battle' and 'The March Of The Black Queen' so-called standalone versions surprisingly were made by JSS/JJM for 'Deep Cuts' Vol.1 in 2011. Unfortunately they didn't bother to remix both songs but simply spliced old album versions with newly mixed 'clean' snippets. As there's no kick/crash in TMOTBQ/FHLI crossfade (it was most probably edited out), they decided to leave it as is. 3. Inner white background is the part of original LP design, so there were no questions for me... |

Hi! Thank you very much for uploading this album! I have a question (no pun intended): why you uploaded the album tracks in 16/44.1, while you had them in 24/96? It would be great if you offered both qualities. Besides that, great work. Given the absence of C_Matt, did you ever considered using any of his remasters in this collections, if any sounded better than the original? Greetings. |
||
dysan 21.08.2017 17:42 |
I'm not sure it was Matt_C .. I think someone just said 'oh here's one I made' in the original Deep Cuts 1 thread. Correct about SSOR. It's weird how flat it sounds on some versions. |

Greetings.The standard resolution for the whole project is Red Book 16/44 resolution. 'Cause first of all these editions made for CDR burning. I don't want to use Matt's work without permission. One track made by him I used is 'New York, New York' on AKOM. It was mixed exclusively for my project by my request. This version is different to the one on his AKOM Revision. |

^ Yes, indeed - 2CD set. Actually I have all available sources for each album and 2011 is not the best for 1980's albums... I have interest now in high quality photos from George Hurrell 1983 photo session. |

Chinwonder2 29.08.2017 08:28 |
Heya CMI, I really enjoy your work so here's a little something for a possible future album project. It's the extra guitar mix for We Are The Champions, unfortunately, this is the best quality source so far and it comes from the "Ohne Moulkord Bringt" 1982 documentary. Is there anything you could do to clean this up a bit? :) Also to note, this version is different to the TOTP version, this version has no audience cheering or clapping after the 2nd chorus begins, here are two videos to compare: link Enjoy!! -Chin |
||
cmi 29.08.2017 09:10 |
Thanks, Chin! I'll check it out. Hopefully something similar will be released in NOTW box later this year. |

“It includes all kinds of goodies that no one has ever heard. We have a new vinyl mastering, which comes straight off the mix tapes as opposed to off copies of the mix tapes. So this is the most faithful reproduction of those master mixes ever. The technical guys went through the multitrack tapes and they done alternative mixes using alternative takes of all the tracks on the album. So that’s going to be something people will be fascinated with. You can hear different guitar solos, different vocal takes. There’s a restored documentary that was never finished about us [at the time of News of the World] in America. It’s fascinating to see us talking about what we were doing and just being on the road. It’s a very rich box set that people will enjoy.” This sounds very fascinating, if it's done correctly that is... -Chin |

Back2TheLight 01.09.2017 20:11 |
Thank you CMI for all of your amazing work in all of these mixes...they sound amazing. The only one I did not DL is Queen II, but that's more simply because I only like 2 or 3 songs off of that album (I know I'm going to get beat up for that one but it's true). All the others sound magnificent and along with C Matt, Lord Fickle, and many others over the years, you deserve a gold medal for your work! Looking forward to The Works and hopefully one day Innuendo!!
RadekQ 03.09.2017 13:37 |

@cmi will you include Face it Alone? I don't know if it exist somewhere in a lossless format, but since the song isn't on The Miracle, will you include it in Innuendo?
cmi 11.09.2017 08:20 |
^ Actually I didn't hear the in-line recording of this track. Also it sounds like a rehearsal fragment, not a proper track.... REQUEST: Does anyone have this original THE GAME advert in his collection? Or maybe some different thing with the same photo. I need high resolution scan of it. Uncropped version will be very welcome. Thanks in advance. |

cmi 14.09.2017 06:07 |
Folks, I need the high quality scan of this photo, as it was printed on mirror LP sleeve it's imposible to properly scan it. The result is weak. To best way to make a proper scan of this photo is to find it somewhere else printed on normal paper... All The Game CD versions which use this shot are cut (cropped) from the bottom. It's unfortunately cut on 'Crazy Little Thing' single back sleeve as well... |
||
moonhead79 14.09.2017 11:10 |
Give me 1 or 2 days and i try to give you a proper scan of the lp sleeve ;) I've got a friend with a very good scanner. Maybe he could do something for that. |

cmi, re: >You need to use overburning option. 82 minutes can be recorded on 80 min CDR with this option enabled. You CAN, however, SOME players won't play / recognise discs that are over the 80 minute mark and overburning *can* cause a cd-r drive to fail. Well, certainly, in my case, it did. |

Great work as always! Of course you're in the lead of what's to be on these expanded collection CD's, but is there any reason for you not to include stuff like the "The Keep Passing the Open Windows" demo's, There Must Be More to Life Than This or some alterante Thank God It's Christmas versions? |
||
cmi 23.11.2017 19:36 |
1) Available KPTOW demo is not a proper in-line recording... It doesn't suits with all other tracks in terms of sound/quality. 2) If you mean this Orbit mix of TMBMTLTT. I don't use any remixes with additional production of third-party people. They almost always are crap. Of course I will add Queen/Chris Thomas-produced version which was prepared but still remains unreleased... when it will be available. 3) There's no proper alternate version of TGIC. The same for A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling from AKOM. |

Thank you VERY much for all the effort that you put into this project. So shame that QP do not bother to release proper deluxe versions... Just quick question: what is the difference (in ters of sound editing and/or mixing) between extended mix and extended version? |
||
cmi 26.11.2017 23:58 |
moonhead: Thanks! And the announcement will be very soon. Now I make some fixes on 'The Miracle'... RadekQ: Actually I don't know for sure because some official titles break every rule... In my point of view if the song sounds very differently from the common version (Staying Power, Back Chat, I Want To Break Free) it must be called Extended MIX. If the song features some new parts but not much different from the album version (One Vision, Hammer To Fall, It's A Hard Life) it must be called Extended VERSION. But it's not the case with official titles. |

'Classic' edit removed from tracklist. Track 13 - THE MIRACLE (instrumental) Re-edited to restore longer jam part at the end omitting 'That Time Will Come...' coda. Track 14 - I WANT IT ALL (instrumental) Re-edited to replace backing vocals 'Hear the cry of youth...' with instrumental segment. Artwork is updated as well. |

First of all, I would like to thank CMI for his hard work all this time. I just recently discovered this thread and am very happy with it! But, like ataqueen said, something is wrong with downloading disc 2 of the Miracle album. I tried several times but it never seems to download it completely and keeps randomly stopping after a while. It says it's finished every time but that's clearly not the case. I would have thought it was a problem on my end but seeing as ataqueen has the same problem maybe there is something you could do? |
||
cmi 05.12.2017 17:03 |
Just downloaded the whole Disc 2 without a problem in several minutes.

Thanks for trying out the download CMI. I still don't know why it won't work this time. Maybe it has something to do with a previous Firefox update or something. I tried it with Jdownloader2 and this time it worked. So, anyone who has the same problem, try downloading another way instead of using your browser. |

Anyway there will be a complete set 'Rock In Rio' official release sooner or later. |

Guys, 25 pages of this and I managed to miss "The Miracle" expanded - I see a link on Bob's "Baker's Dozen" thread but it keeps bringing me to a dead end. Any chance of a re-upload please? It sounds like I've missed something really awesome. Thanks in advance :)
cmi 03.01.2018 05:58 |
Just be more goal-oriented, if you want to achieve something ... There's an announcement of the update for 'The Miracle' album edition on the PREVIOUS page. There's a notion in the FIRST post of the thread about the page where to find actual details for all available editions. It seems that if something needs more than 2 clicks to be found, some people just don't bother to do it or lose faith in it... |
||
Thistle 03.01.2018 15:29 |
Look, I asked a simple question. Was nothing to do with not wanting to look for it - I just kept getting dead ends when following links. Pardon me for missing a post about where it actually was in a 26 page thread and asking for help. There was no need for such a cheeky response - so stick your album and its links up your arse.

Yes, I might have got narky at CMI's reply, but I didn't "bitch" (which is quite a tweeny thing to say, btw) at "nothing". He's had a pop at me for no reason, I retaliated. I can get the tracks one by one though, that's what I'm doing now and it seems to work fine even for the vast majority ones larger than 21 Mb. A bit of a pain but at least it works (good thing there weren't problems with the miracle and its 3 discs !). |

Many Thanks for this. It is much appreciated as ever :) Did you feel that the demos of the 2011 CD taken from an acetate were better quality to work with than John Stuart's transfers from his Reel to Reel tape, or do you not have this older source? |
||
cmi 19.01.2018 07:16 |
What I've had is 'JSS Master' version. But to me it's something like acetate => MiniDisc transfer and sounds worse than 2011 official source. Is this mentioned Reel to Reel tape transfer indeed doesn't feature the acetate in its lineage and sounds cleaner and more natural? I wonder, if TNCD was remixed by Roy Thomas Baker for the album, is there a possibility that the original De Lane Lea multitracks still in the vaults? We were told that all De Lane Lea masters are lost except Brian's acetate which was used for 2011 transfer, but probably it's all about Lou Austin stereo mix, not the multitracks... Another small observation is that TNCD is the only track from this session which sounds polished and fully arranged oposed to all other tracks which sounds more like a work-in-progress. So it was considered as an alternative to not-satisfying newly recorded Trident version. But probably Trident version was never recorded at all because De Lane Lea version was perfect... |

I still didn't burn/print any album from this project... But I use printable Verbatim CDR's.
brunolezouf 01.02.2018 20:27 |
Ok thank you for your answer. I use verbatim too and I was wondering if there was a better brand. (There's always better but no one ever agrees at the end) I was pretty sure you had posted a photo of one of the cds of your expanded collection (The Jazz one I think). The photo was shot with the cds put on a Canon printer. I guess it was someone else showing what he had done with the files you had shared. ||
brunolezouf 06.02.2018 13:21 |
Yes Brians wig, I hope they have and I've always heard the blue ones were just the best after the silver or golden ones (kodak and fnac used to make some but I think they have stopped). Definitely the green ones are awful, especially the no names ones. So verbatim is still my first choice but I've been told about a brand "taiko yuden" that they were the best but I've never tried them. CMI collection is so cool, I'd like to burn it and keep it for long.
waywardgenius 08.02.2018 12:17 |
Taiyo Yuden ceased production of optical media at the end of 2015. As their discs are no longer available, Verbatim discs are certainly an acceptable substitute. I've never had a problem with Verbatim discs.
brians wig 12.02.2018 11:43 |
Taiyo Yuden were touted as being THE best disc you could buy - and you paid handsomely for it! That's probably why they ceased production: people were less and less willing to pay the higher price. |
||
brunolezouf 14.02.2018 13:58 |
That's a pity, Something I would certainly pay for is superior quality cds. Too bad to have recordings corrected re EQ'd and not having the best cds to burn them. I'll do with the verbatim as I've done till now. I'll see in ten years when I am an aging fan of Queen what will happen to my cds. I'll keep the RAR files on a hard drive, just in case... |
||
brunolezouf 14.02.2018 14:03 |
Maybe I'll be so deaf, I won't be able to hear any loss and will tell to my boys: "See those CD your old man burnt 10 years ago, how good they still sound!" And my boys will look at each other, silently with that not-long-before-he can't-hear-us look...

cmi 16.02.2018 12:27 |
^ I don't think n00b will answer your question, so I will... I don't think that it's really entertaining to listen to a capellas everytime you listen to the album+extras. Also I think it only works pretty well with complicated vocal parts. I mean songs like Bring Back That Leroy Brown, Bicycle Race, BoRhap and others. Also if I add an a capella version to the bonus list there will be even more versions of one song in the set. I think it'll be quite boring... Instrumental version is another story. I really like to listen to instrumentals. |

Freddie rey wrote: just a little question. why you don't include the hero, from the movie version?The movie features all Queen music in pretty rough mix and form. The soundtrack album was mixed from scratch with more polished material and sounds much better, even some dialogs there are different to the movie versions. I decided not to use any versions from the movie because it has very weak and thin sound oposed to the album. Also I think 'The Hero' 2011 mix is great, and to have old movie mix near it is pointless. Even if it features slightly different exclusive elements. |

What a good way to start the sunday! Can't wait to listen it. it's probably the least listened album of the group. This is a good chance to re-discover it Thanks CMI A Technical question: When you remaster the tracks, do you use a 94/24 resolution? |
||
cmi 18.02.2018 18:30 |
Yes, indeed it's the least popular album but the music and atmosphere of tracks are great and perfectly suit the movie. I re-discovered the OST and found the Orchestral Score very enjoyable as well. I use sample rate of the source (44100 Hz and higher) but resolution always is 32 bit. |

Once again, thank you for your amazing work. So good to listen to this !!! The hero is a great queen track and should have been in the greatest hits instead of the flash theme which is not so punchy. Freddie's voice is incredible in this track (and live, it's even better)

Dear CMI; I like so much all of your works. Listening your collection instead of the original releases. Great to have the albums with this quality but I would like to ask something: Why some songs are noticeably slower than the original release versions? Some examples: The Miracle: Hijack My Heart (2011 bonus disc) = 4:13 min. Hijack My Heart (expanded studio collection) = 4:27 min. The Game: Another One Bites The Dust (Greatest Hits) = 3:37 min. Another One Bites The Dust (expanded studio collection) = 3:42 min. Maybe there are some other examples in your collection but I found these... Before, I always listened these songs with original speed :) But, when the songs play slower, they lost some things which I can not explain exactly… Is possible to fix these songs time? Thanks again for your great works... |
||
cmi 24.02.2018 14:28 |
These songs were sped up for the original release by 1 semitone and 0.5 semitone respectively. I decided to change the speed/pitch of each track back to the speed/pitch it was originally recorded. So it's not an error. Several songs were slowed down for commercial release, I corrected it as well. For example 'Hammer To Fall'. Actually it is noted in the info file for each album. |

Aside from speed/pitch, what are the other factors when it comes to choosing the best version of the track?
cmi 25.02.2018 13:05 |
^ Main factors: 1) Overall sounding of the track (tape generation, drop outs, digital errors etc...) 2) Duration of track (longest intro/outro of the track - longest fade ins and outs) 3) Largest dynamic range 4) Largest frequency range 5) No noise reduction applied |

cmi 26.02.2018 13:14 |
Yes, indeed. And I'm really glad about it. HOT SPACE is a very special album for me. Hopefully sometime in the future each album will be presented with CD2 of such additional material... |

Suneku 26.02.2018 13:24 |
Why didn't you include the remix of Ogre Battle in Queen II?
cmi 26.02.2018 14:05 |
First of all I don't bother about the third party remixes which feature additional recordings made not by Queen. Actually this remix was under consideration but was dropped in the end as there are too many versions of this song for EXTRA TRACKS feature. There nothing new in this remix... It would be really great if there was a remix truthful to the original with restored originally recorded intro. But it's not.
seagull 27.02.2018 07:44 |
CMI, why is Hot Space a special album for you? With your collections I’m finding it isn’t necessarily my fave Queen albums that I enjoy the most as an expanded version. That’s because if an album is your fave, it doesn’t mean the remixes or studio versions make it any better. For example, The Miracle was never one of my fave Queen releases. However, if you expanded releases - The Miracle has become refreshing and new. That’s partly to to do with tracks that I had never heard in such high quality (eg Stealin full length). Thank you. Hot Space has unfortunately been bagged by a lot of fans. I can understand it’s not what fans wanted at the time etc. However, I think it has a lot to offer. I hope your Hot Space release gives fans the opportunity to leave their preconceptions behind, and give the era a fresh set of ears. |

seagull Actually all Queen albums are favourites for me in one way or another. So there's no thought 'Dammit, I need to spend 2 months on this bloody record I never liked...'. I regularily listen to each album in full and I'm glad I still enjoy them after all these 25 years... HOT SPACE is something special for me as I remember it being played by my father when I was about 6 years old, actually about 5 years before I became a Queen fan.:) 'Body Language' is the track I remember very well probably because it was very unusual... Also I enjoy all experimental albums by my favourite artists and HOT SPACE is one of them. And it's great to understand that this underrated album actually has a lot of fans. martin S I have plans to make EXPANDED COLLECTIONS of all major Queen solo projects. jerome.wuzz I'm very excited about the fact that this EXPANDED COLLECTION project makes the music fresh and changes the attitude to particular album for a lot of people. I think it's the main aim which should be achieved by all official products. NOT the money grab, which unfortunately is the aim of QPL with all its effortless amateurish products. |

But naturally most people didn't know the difference, so the good media became harder and harder to find. Thank goodness for 5 Tb hard drives. It's all a thing of the past now. Susanin wrote: CMI, and how did you determine or find out that these songs were accelerated?We could get into a spirited discussion about frequencies and what makes a note a note, but to be brief - it is actually not at all difficult to compare a song in the key of A, for example, to a guitar tuner or a keyboard that plays an A, and you just match the recording to that. Of course it's entirely possible that bands recorded songs with their instruments tuned slightly higher or lower, but in most cases it was the tape being sped up or slowed down after the fact, like on Zeppelin's No Quarter. |

I hope your Hot Space release gives fans the opportunity to leave their preconceptions behind, and give the era a fresh set of ears.Me too. But it's a far reach. The reason why Hot Space is slagged is because it's a bad album, plain and simple. Queen were out in the wilderness, and the album marks the completion of their transition from being leaders to being followers. Hot Space has a few good moments, but its flaws far outweigh its perks. Popular music in 1982 was still very interesting - Michael Jackson, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Iron Maiden, The Cure, Judas Priest, Prince, Brian Eno, Dire Straits, and XTC all put out truly fantastic albums that year. Hot Space just doesn't remotely compare to the innovation and forward thinking of all of these other artists at the time. |

CMI, I want to thank you for the time you've spent making these amazing compilations! I think I've missed a few of them and I'll check those ASAP! They're a must given that some jewels are either missing or way too deep in my archives (also, lower quality) for me to bother checking. Please take a look at your paypal account :-) Speaking of which, recently I decided to spend a little bit of time revisiting all the stuff I've been collecting over the years (that's why I'm posting here, because I found some of your shares). Most of it dates from way back when I used to be a trader, and I've found some unusual recordings - most certainly not rarities, but perhaps they're worth listening for the fans out there that may have a hard time finding them anywhere else or even knowing about their existence. I can't give a timeline (weeks maybe), but I'd love to share what I think will be fun to listen to. I'll make sure to credit you if I happen to use anything you've provided. |

I'm just listening to some tracks, great stuff! It's weird to listen to "You Don't Fool Me" instrumental, waiting for the guitar glitch to happen and it's not there! Flawless version :-) A friend (someone from this board) and me tried to correct this years ago and it was nowhere as good, just too noticeable of a patch. I also love things like the full-length restoration of "A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling", making it perfect like many other tracks in your compilations. May I be a bit nit-picky? Not to complain, just sharing some thoughts: - Any reason not to include the original Hollywood Records remix of "Fat Bottomed Girls"? I see you did a composite with Freddie's extra ad-libs and so, but the different intro is worth having IMO. Anyway, I guess three versions are enough and you created something new, which I appreciate. - No studio banter in "Polar Bear"? I suppose that's intentional. - Aren't there other "Jesus" demo sources? The version must be the same, but someone shared a youtube video of an acetate playing it and maybe the quality is a bit higher (mostly if the source is tracked down). Same case with a tape containing "Cool Cat" with David Bowie, although there are at least a couple different versions that I'm sure you're working on already. That's it, your work is incredible! A true labor of love. I can't wait for your next releases! |

I see you did a composite with Freddie's extra banter and so, but the different intro is worth having IMO.I decided to replace "fake" intro (it was taken from the middle of the song) from Brian Malouf remix with the original opening because I wanted to create the difinitive version of the song. It features not only additional vocal ad libs in the end but also an unedited instrumental part after the first verse. I still in hope to return back to 'Jazz' with proper complete instrumental mix of this track as well. - No studio banter in "Polar Bear"? I suppose that's intentional.At first I wanted to leave the banter, but in the end I decided to edit it out because it doesn't work when listening to all these extras. It's too long and repetitive... - Aren't there other "Jesus" demo sources? The version must be the same, but someone shared a youtube video of an acetate playing it and maybe the quality is a bit higher (mostly if the source is tracked down).I think the quality is not better there. Also I don't think the YouTube source is a good way to replace the official CDDA source. If there will be a proper lossless transfer of these acetates available preferably in 24/96, I will consider to replace the official transfer with a better one. Same case with a tape containing "Cool Cat" with David Bowie, although there are at least a couple different versions that I'm sure you're working on already.Yes, there will be two non-album versions. That's it, your work is incredible! A true labor of love. I can't wait for your next releases!Thanks! BTW, I still don't do 'Innuendo' because I still in hope to find proper lossless quality of 3 unreleased well-known demos from the sessions. And you also provide artwork, which makes your efforts even greater. The chumps at Queen Productions have so much to learn. Thank you CMI :-)

Hello folks! 1) I don't use remixes featuring additional recordings by third party producers/engineers. Because of that I didn't use UP Mike Spencer mix. Also I don't use live recordings as a extra contect for the studio albums. Live extras will be featured in the Expanded Collections of live albums... 2) I didn't use radio edit of UP rah mix because it would be too much of the same mix in a row, so I decided to omit it. This radio edit is not a straight cut of the full lengthtrack but anyway isn't really interesting... It would be more useful if something like attached version to be released back in 1999. |

Dear CMI, you really make a great work... you are able to transform a 'not well released' album in a 'very good listening' experience. Hot Space is an album with great songs but (my personal opinion) with very bad arrangments... if they recorded that songs with the same live treatment well... could be a great funk black album!!! PS: I've got Feel Like in flac... i don't know if is an mp3 converted file.... ask me if you need it ;) |
||
cmi 29.04.2018 08:37 |
^ This album is very different (to others) and very enjoyable for me. Actually the experimental part of this album is Side 1 only (+Cool Cat) as all other songs is a Queen sound delivered in '79-'80 with The Game. I like the arrangements of Side 1 but of course it will be great to hear/have it in 'live in the studio' arrangement as an alternative. I think John Luongo remix of 'Staying Power' is very close to it with more prominent acoustic drums. |

Thank you for what you have done for this and all of the other albums you have remixed. I can't wait to hear what you have in store for the next album release. I am really looking forward to the live remakes, especially Live Killers. That was the album that made me a Queen fan. Keep up the great work.

Wow! :) After listening to the Hot Space Expanded Collection i'm really impressed. Especially the vinyl transfers from Staying Power, Back Chat and Cool Cat have such a good audio quality. Every new Expanded Collection brings joy to the Queen Community. Thank you! :) Question: Do you know which album will be next? Have a great day :) |
||
cmi 01.05.2018 12:15 |
^ Especially 'Staying Power' transfer is REALLY great. Very clear sound. And 'Yes, I know' :) Soon you will know as well. |
||
QSMJohn 01.05.2018 17:50 |
^Is this your own transfer or of someone else?
cmi 02.05.2018 04:38 |
Chosen vinyl transfers for HS Expanded Collection are not mine. Back Chat was chosen from 4 different transfers. Staying Power from 2 different transfers. By the way... link |

Dear CMI: just wanna say a (delayed) big THANKS for your AMAZING audio remaster work, the best we've had so far, from any official and unofficial release to date, plus all the aditional material wich in some cases if very very hard to find. I been replacing all my "official" digital audio copies of the albums with yours, trully is what the 2011 re-editions should have been. On my own, I've been remaking the artworks and booklets of the albums with full lyrics, pictures and singles covers, just for fun and even before I discover your remasters (originaly was making them for the CMatt's versions and now I adjusted them to your editions, but in my personal graphic taste, no offense intended!), hope you don't mind it, but if you want to see them I'll send you a copy of one of your choise, just to give back something in return. I have Works, Queen, Magic and Miracle all wrapped up, currently finishin' Jazz and I'll be hiting Hot Space next. PS: Any estimated release date for SHA? just can't wait for it! PS 2: Sorry for the extension of the reply, just have a lot to say this first time! Cheers! |
||
cmi 11.05.2018 07:08 |
Thanks for words of appreciation! And welcome to QueenZone. It will be interesting to see your version of artwork. Please PM me The Works for example. Thanks. About SHA: Most probably July-August 2018. |

About SHA, it will be a long wait, but we will say: was it all worth it! Cheers!! |

I'll need to check, but I think 'Glitter!' by MR. I'll scan them for you if they are.

Folks, I'm looking for full length piano intro version of Flick Of The Wrist which was released only on Dutch 1974 7" single of Killer Queen. I thought I had good transfer of it in 24/96 but it's too noisy in the intro. So probably someone here have a better version. Important thing here is quite clean piano intro of the song before drums come in. The quality of the main part of the song doesn't matter. 24/96 lossless WAV/FLAC is the best way to help. |
||
dysan 17.06.2018 09:25 |
Only 320 I'm afraid | ||
Lord Fickle 17.06.2018 11:37 |
I've probably got a lossless version, but it would be in AIFF. You can have it if that would be any good?
cmi 17.06.2018 12:52 |
It's good as long as it's clean and lossless ;)
bootLuca 17.06.2018 17:52 |
What about taking that part from the BBC version?
dysan 17.06.2018 19:30 |
Good thinking | ||
cmi 17.06.2018 19:43 |
Nice decision... but it's different mix! So it will be not that correct to merge two different mixes into one.
Lord Fickle 17.06.2018 21:02 |
That's what my version consists of. I used the BBC intro to merge into the 2011 remaster, and it sounds fine to me.
bootLuca 19.06.2018 09:56 |
To me the backing track of the BBC version is identical to the album one
cmi 19.06.2018 16:19 |
Of course it's identical, but the mix is different. Right..?
The Real Wizard 19.06.2018 16:53 |
cmi wrote: Of course it's identical, but the mix is different. Right..?Very slightly, if at all (except for the guitar solo, of course). So if it's just for the piano intro, the BBC version should be true enough for what you're trying to accomplish. |
||
Golden Salmon 19.06.2018 17:54 |
If you can't properly restore the noisy version, just include it as is and/or make the BBC version merge in order to re-create that version. I mean, I know you'd prefer to have the original version in perfect quality, but we won't complain if you share all these :-P |
||

I want the Flick Of The Wrist 12" version with the medley of other SHA songs edited in at the end :D Actually - that can be my little project for tonight |

Hi all, could somebody provide me with some more info on the first track on the second disc of the Hot Space Expanded Edition? The remix, not the 12'' one, by John Luongo. I could not find any information on this one on the Queenvault website. I managed to find an interview from a couple of years back with John Luongo, but that one handles only the 12'' version. Also a topic on this forum about a Staying Power US Promo, but unfortunately the youtube link is dead... Thank you! |
||
Golden Salmon 22.06.2018 20:29 |
Funny, I didn't notice that this version is undocumented. I had the regular extended remix beforehand (in nowhere as good quality as CMI's restored track) but I didn't check the short version. Is that present in the 12" promo?

cmi 05.07.2018 09:26 |
As still no-one did, I will try to answer question about Staying Power: Back in 1982 John Luongo was asked by Bob Krasnow (head of Elektra Records) and Queen to create new mix of this song for possible single release. There are 3 versions of this track were prepared by John in Sigma Sound Studios in New York. They are normal length (4:14) remix, extended remix (5:50) and instrumental remix (4:14). Unfortunately something went wrong and nothing was released commercially. Probably because of fair sales of all "Hot Space" products and tour in US. Only Extended Remix was released on US promo 12" single and still officially can be found only there. All 1/4 inch tapes still in possession of John so hopefully sometime in the future all there versions will be properly released. Track 1 on CD 2 of "Hot Space - EC" is the edit of the extended remix made by me to emulate the original normal length remix by John Luongo. He liked it! About Sheer Heart Attack: I'm sorry but it's still a long way to go... There's a lot of mixing work ahead. Now original Dutch 'Killer Queen 7" single and 'Keep Yourself Alive' 7" US single in my possession, so there will be some additional work with standalone versions. |
||
Plengel 06.07.2018 12:12 |
Thanks for the explanation. Very clear. Let's hope some day all John Luongu remixes see the light of day, but untill then, we'll have to do with your interpretation of it. Which is very good by the way. Looking forward to the Expanded Sheer Heart Attack. Now you're in possession of the two 7" singles, it already promises some nice extra's. |

First of all, thanks for this huge collection of tracks. I was checking my old hard disk and i discovered a few lossless demos. I used Trader LIttle Helper to see if they're real lossless and yes... So I've got a lossless version o all rough mixes of the second CD of Hot Space. CMI, do you want them to do a quick update? |

I'm pretty sure you read this countless times, but I must emphasise how great this collection is. Looking forward to SHA. BETA215 01.11.2018 05:10 |
Hi Defining Awesome! There's no way to delete the comment, but you could edit it to delete the link. Follow this link and you will be able to do it: link Actually, if you look at the structure of any post in this forum, you can see your name, your status (Rocker), buddy button, PM button, and another part where it says "Posted: 01 Nov 18, 01:49", etc. Well, at the right of the date and time, there were three buttons (which you can still click but are hidden). One is for editing posts (the first one), I never used the second one so IDK, and the third one is for quoting messages. If you put the mouse pointer over those hidden buttons, it even shows a description of what they do. Sorry for the mess, the forum hasn't been taken care of in those little details, and it makes using the site more difficult. I hope this message is helpful. |

About Carnival Midway: It was recorded for ELEKTRA Sound Effects library and released on Volume One vinyl back in 1964 (link. As I understand when 'Brighton Rock' track was mixed for the album, 'Carnival Midway' excerpt was taken directly from this vinyl record, as it is possible to hear all these pops and crackles of vinyl in the mix (but not on EC). |

Maybe the best one yet. Lots to enjoy here. The Lily Of The Valley intro vinyl rip sounds great. The bootleg instrumental Misfire might have been a fun inclusion, but can understand it's omission. |

Holy shit, I'm late! You don't check this place in a while and it's early Christmas once again all of a sudden :-) Best Black Friday bargain ever! Your new mixes are really great, incredible sound quality. So great to have high quality versions of the SCC remixes and the restored standalone tracks. Thank you!!! But... "Stone Cold Crazy (rough mix)" - this is completely new to me! Not documented at Queenvault or ultimatequeen either. This is brilliant! Can you share the multitrack source? I checked all the ones I have and they're all just the Guitar Hero version or some modification of it. Also, may we ask what album do you have in mind for your next project? Only 3 left now :-) P.S. "KILLLER" QUEEN :-P |

Again, well worth the wait! The rough mix from Stone Cold Crazy is great, as is the alternate mix for Brighton Rock. I always like the inclusions of instrumentals; gives away so much more behind already great songs. |

Feels like...Queen are about to release a new album. Some CMI releases feel as exciting as it felt when Queen were publishing advertisements for their next upcoming release. CMI, I love the way you create anticipation around a release. In addition to the amazing tracks, I love the artwork you include. It reminds me of how I would buy a new Queen album and look at the artwork during my first listen to the album. Happy New Year mate. Thank you for sharing your best recordings, your mixes, and your passion and creativity. If you ever travel to Australia, get in touch and let’s enjoy a beer together. |
||
dave76 02.01.2019 13:49 |
I hope it's something special. I assume there's no need to include the raw sessions and bonus disc since it was officially released in 2017.
Freddie rey 03.01.2019 09:58 |
Why not including? He includes all the demos from the 2011 editions on it, so I could imagine that he will put also that bonus tracks from 2017
seagull 03.01.2019 13:44 |
CMI usually includes all the interesting studio stuff. This most likely includes the raw recordings, and omits the live cuts. Personally, I love any recording ditties of Melancholy Blues. I also feel there’s great opportunity to mix Fight from the Inside. I very much enjoy the instrumentals that CMI includes - and this album will have some great instrumentals. Also, there’s a few mixes on ‘the eYe’ soundtrack that are excellent. Lastly, CMI includes great artwork. I’m hoping there’s extended artwork around the single releases and album covers. |

Several words to say... Before moving to the next album of this project I decided to make an upgrade of the album I presented (exactly) 2 years ago... Jazz. Unfortunately this great album didn't receive the proper official 40th anniversary treatment last year, so here's something as a compensation to us all. UPDATES: 1) Original mix of 'Jealousy' without bass drum was returned back to the album tracklist 2) 'Jealousy' with bass drum reinstated was brought to EXTRA TRACKS section. 3) Alternate intro from 'Fat Bottomed Girls' 1991 remix was returned back. 4) 'Don't Stop Me Now' (revisited) from 'Bohemian Rhapsosy' OST now included. 5) 'Fat Bottomed Girls' (instrumental) was newly mixed from stems and now doesn't feature any backing vocals. 6) 'More Of That Jazz' (instrumental edit) was extended for about 20 seconds. 7) All tracks were speed corrected. Read the info file for details. 8) All artwork was reworked to match the upgrade. It is highly recommended to download the whole thing in full. |
||

cmi 16.01.2019 19:38 |
Yes, I will do all live material... But I hope that there'll be no need to work on old 'Live Killers' and 'Live Magic' mixes. Hopefully we will get remixed and expanded 'Live Killers' this year and expanded and remixed 'Live Magic' or Knebworth '86 complete concert sometime in the future. |

**PRESS RELEASE** (22.05.2019) - Los Angeles, CA Queen, the multi-award winning rock group announce the re-release of the band's back catalogue of recorded material (1973-1991) Queen Productions Limited in association with Universal Music have taken the decision to abandon the usual practise of using band insiders or industry "legends" for this process and have hired the mysterious "CMI" for this career defining release. With complete, unprecedented access to the tape archive of Queen as a band and also the archives of the individual band members - Freddie Mercury (vocals & piano), Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (Drums) and John Deacon (bass) - CMI has been given carte blanche to create an on-line archive of - literally - everything Queen committed to tape, as a band, in the studio. Hundreds of hours of tapes have been digitally, meticulously transferred and restored in glorious high resolution and will be available to purchase in part or as a whole by the casual music listener after the perfect sounding version of Bohemian Rhapsody or the devoted, hard-core fan after a first listen to the long-rumored Hangman. It's all here. Due for release in late 2020, fans will be able to create on-line lay lists, convert to MP3 for iPods ready for casual listening on or high quality blu-ray discs of the best available sound quality heard yet. The possibilities now are endless and, once again, Queen Reigns The World as leaders in recorded music archiving. (See Queen+ Adam Lambert royally fuck the legacy over, everywhere they play, in 2019) |

Glad this album's next. There's a lot of cool tings to expect from this one. In the meantime (and hoping it isn't too late), I wanted to propose 2 bonus remixes that were inspired by the countless live recordings/ bootlegs I've been hearing for a while. Remember chinwonder's WATC remix that merged the studio and raw mixes versions? (link I quickly added a couple of extras based on every live performance of the song: the extended piano intro and the final "of the world" line before the piano ending. For the former I don't think there's ever been anyone who was remixed the song to add that extended intro, so it'd be a fine bonus addition to the project. This is my "lossy proof of concept". I'm sure you'll make it sound even better. link The other remix I'm suggesting is one of Get Down Make Love that also has its extended intro. Since the multitracks/stems are available it can be done without difficulty. Thanks for reading and keep up the good work! |

I hope it contains the Spread Your Wings rough mix (4:10) which has different guitar parts during the chorus. There is also another early version which has some extra vocals from Freddie near the end. And i believe there's also a different take of Sheer Heart Attack. Which is the difference between album and so-called single version of Spread Your Wings....? Slightly earlier fade out - great, it needs to be here for sure ;) I never liked these bad edits from US. Hey CMI, I shared some days ago a FLAC version of my mix. It's in the original thread. I was busy, so I couldn't answer before. Thanks for including it in the collection! I also shared my project file, so you can EQ or change the levels to your liking: link I must tell you, it'll be difficult for me to support your great work since my country is going through the second biggest crisis of the world right now (or at least we're behind Venezuela). It's getting FUCKING difficult. But I would do it if I could. Thank you for your hard work, it's great that you are open to receive donations and people are willing to give them. That means there's a reward for your work, and it's so gratifying when something like that happens. But, if you decide making your collection paid, there'll be lots of us that won't be there for different reasons. I hope you understand it. Keep up the good work! |
||
cmi 12.08.2019 10:56 |
^ Thanks for your post. First of all, I don't use any other people's (unofficial) mixes in my collections... If I have multitracks or stems of the track, I enjoy to do it by myself. There are two exceptions by now: New York, New York (by C_Matt with his approval) in 2016 and Stone Cold Crazy (early vocal version) in 2018 which will be properly remixed in the future because of multitrack leakage. It's all about good will of people to make a donation as an appreciation of my work. And I think it's not a good thing to talk about it here every time. It's better to talk about music... It's a pity that no one still didn't make a deep review or something like this for each album set. It would be much more interesting to read and analyse. |

Hello CMI I could listen to the expanded edition of news of the worlds, you did an excellent job, as usual! This album has always been one my favourites, and I think this expanded edition highlights all the qualities of this recording. Thank you so much for the passion and the time you dedicate to this project! I saw several people had a 404 error with the link provided in the mail; I had this error, too but I found a workaround, hope it can help the ones with the same issue: copy/paste the link into a notepad then copy the text from the notepad and paste it in your browser. The link of the mail actually ends with special characters that don't display in the mail but that you get see when putting your mouse over the link (mine was ending by %u200B). If you paste directly the url into your browser or or if you click on the link, the special characters will be taken into account and will provoke the 404 error. Copying the url from the notepad remove the special characters because they are not handled by simple text editors... If you clicked on the link in the mail, you can also edit the url directly in your browser, remove the unwanted characters from the end of the url and refresh the page, it should work, too. |

cmi, re: >Here's another teaser from forthcoming 'I N N U E N D O' Expanded Collection release... I wish I hadn't............ The original version (let alone this demo / working take) should never have made it anywhere near to a Queen album. As solo material, yep - all's good - but remains absolutely the bottom of the birdcage........ |
||
Plengel 16.12.2019 18:30 |
Nice teaser! A good addition to the expanded studio collection. You might not like the song, I don't either, but it did end up on the album. So this gives a nice in depth listen into the album and recording sessions as a whole. |

||
Egietje 10.01.2020 18:31 |
Cmi, how come some files are mp3 (mostly demos and other rare items)? Is it because you couldn't find any lossless versions available? Or is it another reason?
AaronReturn2004 13.01.2020 04:07 |
On the topic of your final release CMI, are you sure you're going to place the Rocks version of I'm In Love With My Car over the regular single mix, labelled as an "alternate intro mix"? Plus, will the standalone Bohemian Rhapsody (on every non-album release) make a appearance here?
kentster 23.01.2020 05:24 |
Given ANATO has a 5.1 version, there's some instrumental versions from the japanese karaoke GH1+2, and there's a 24-track version of BR out there + probably other things I've never even heard about, I sure there's a fair scope for what cmi might do with remixes, alt. versions etc. That said, I'm personally more interested in Innuendo right now, given that's what's coming next. I remember thinking it was a bit of a mixed bag when I bought the cd on release day - some great stuff and some good music with some dodgy lyrics. I appreciate it a LOT more now though knowing what was going to happen just 9 months later. |

Finally :D! Can't wait to download and listen to it! Just one thing though, the text document says: "In February 2020 there's an twelfth installment of this project." Shouldn't it be fourteenth installment? I just checked all of the text files, the first problems arise in the Queen text file, it says it's the eighth installment, which The Works, released before Queen, also states, Flash Gordon follows Queen which should be the tenth installment, but the ninth installment is stated, then Hot Space correctly states it's the eleventh installment, Sheer Heart Attack follows as the twelfth installment which is also correct, News of the World follows as the thirteenth installment which is also correctly stated, and now Innuendo which says it's the twelfth installment as well, but should be the fourteenth installment. So the text files that have errors are Queen, eighth should be ninth, then Flash Gordon, ninth should be tenth, and lastly Innuendo, in which twelfth should be fourteenth. (hope this helps, it's not a big problem, just a minor inconsistency) |

cmi 11.02.2020 22:27 |

Great job cmi, particularly with the quality of the audio on the work in progress tracks!! I'd forgotten how Self Made Man shifted momentarily to Freddie singing, I do like that part a lot. I've always found it odd Innuendo the song didn't get an instrumental release esp given it made #1 in the UK, but I'm very grateful for Headlong (instrumental), I Can't Live With You (instrumental) and Ride The Wild Wind (instrumental) which I never had in such decent quality, and of course the vocal-free version of The Show Must Go On (instrumental). Innuendo (explosive version) brings back the massive disappointment I felt having bought the 12" record and discovering a crappy fuzz bomb at the end! Thanks again cmi! I need to get back to revisiting 1991 now.... |
||
Xnoybis 13.02.2020 12:18 |
Great work cmi! One little thing, my files aren't properly tagged, they're tagged with this pattern: "tracknumber name of the song". Is it a mistake or done on purpose? |
||
cmi 13.02.2020 12:52 |
2 kenstler: I like 'Self Made Man' very much and it's a pity they didn't finish and release it... It seems like only Brian's lead vocals needs to be re-recorded... Yes, instrumental 'Innuendo' is the one I like to have. 2 Xnoybis: All tag information is there. |
||
seagull 13.02.2020 21:53 |
Whoo! This is exciting news - I'll have to take a look later when I can download. There's some great songs on this album and the opener remains up there as one of their best tracks. I recall being puzzled by the explosive version of Innuendo. The version seemed identical to the single with except for an odd crackling noise at the end of the song. I had the CD single and was left wondering whether it had been mastered badly. Lost Opportunity was a nice surprise at the time. I'll look forward to hearing this master of Self Made Man. I'm still listening to Hot Space, The Miracle, News of the World (a lot) and The Works like it's the first time I'm hearing them. These collections are are amazing in so many different ways. They are beautifully collated and it's so generous of you to share your work with so many fans. |
||
The Real Wizard 14.02.2020 01:11 |
Brilliant work as always ! The "radio" mix of I Can't Live With You is new to me. It's kind of a half way between the album version and the Queen Rocks version, as some guitars are higher in the mix and there are more real drums. |
||
cmi 14.02.2020 06:26 |
Yes, indeed. This mix has great more lively sound. One thing I don't like about it is the delay in vocal adlibs part at the end of the song. It's interesting that the same effect was used in the intro to 'Rocks' re-take. BTW, we know three Queen-related mixes by Brian Malouf from 1991-1992 (not counting Wembley 12th July 1986 mix). And all are excellent. I mean 'Fat Bottomed Girls' (bonus remix), 'I Can't Live With You' (radio mix) and 'Driven By You' (radio mix a.k.a. new version) |
||
dudeofqueen 14.02.2020 11:36 |
CMI - great work - really. A true labor of love. 1 - I was under the impression that Face It Alone was from the same tape source My Secret Fantasy etc was from - any reason for it not being here? 2 - Headlong - the video mix has a bit of extra guitar - any reason for that being absent? |
||
Freddie rey 14.02.2020 13:36 |
So CMI, one question. ANATO will be for you more ease to do than Innuendo? What do you think?

I discovered this fact recently, so I will add it to 'The Miracle' CD3 in the future... Probably. 2 - Actually the so-called 'video mix' is a full length mix of the song which was (unfortunately) later slightly edited for the album inclusion. I restored this great bit in Track 3 CD1. Listen carefully and read the notes ;) |

I don't think it will be easier to work on ANATO set. I want to create new stereo mix (from 5.1), so there will be 3CDs. And actually I 'fear' of complexity of BoRhap multitrack. It seems I will spend a lot of time on it. |

Thank you CMI. I’ve had 2 good listens to this now, and am very impressed by everything on there. Ride the wild wind and, the mad mix of I’m going slightly mad are my personal favourites. The instrumentals are beautiful |

I’m only on my 1st so these are fresh. Like feeling the music for the first time. I gotta say the artwork takes me back. I really paused on the artwork. There’s lots of comments on this forum about the music, yet CMI creates the magic we feel with each new release. Innuendo had really special artwork for each single and CMI has brought this forward. I’ve listened to the bonus tracks and they are breathtaking. Ride the Wild Wild Instrumental is, for me, better than than the vocal version. CMI is doing so much more than sharing what we having wanting to hear for so long. CMI, thank you. |

Yes, I pay great attention to the artwork and its quality no less than to sound in this series. It's important for me to collect all album-related artwork in best possible quality. I like all three RTWW versions at the same level. One of the best Roger's songs for me. Cheers |

Are you still charging people for this hobby project? Just out of interest?
Plengel 29.02.2020 07:26 |
I think he never did. All he was asking for was a small donation, but it was never necessary to actually pay for a download link. Reason why you have to ask for a link is for him to see how many people are actually interested in the project and not only downpipe it because it was up for grabs. Personally, I'm still enjoying the expanded collection very much. It is ideal for listening to it in the car while commuting to work. |

Hey everyone! Since I quite like this project, I decided to start making lyric files for all the songs on here. At first I thought I'd keep them to myself, but now I've decided to share my work for others to enjoy. The lyrics won't be 100% perfect (timings etc. since they're all done by hand), but good enough for my personal use. I use the lyrics included in the Queen Studio Collection I own as a template for the proper layout, then change that a bit to the proper lyrics (as much as possible anyway), and add the timestamps. Do note that I renamed White Queen to White Queen (As It Began), and She Makes Me to She Makes Me (Stormtroopers In Stilettos). You should either rename the lyric file (and the header in the file), or change the tag of the song or the lyrics won't work. In order to use these lyrics in foobar2000, you'll need an extra component, I personally use Lyric Show Panel 3 ( link ), for other programs you'll have to look up how to use these files yourself (I have no idea if the lyric format is a global format, or just used by this component, so sorry if you can't use them). Here's the download link to all the lyrics I've finished (so far Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack and A Day at the Races): link When downloaded put the lyric files in the same folder as the music files (which is why I named the folders on Mega the same as you get from cmi, you should be able to merge the folders), and they should start working right away (unless your program requires more steps). Hope you enjoy it :D - Egietje |

Hello guys, I've been looking at the instrumental mix of the 2011 reissues and I keep noticing how they're basically new mixes done from scratch. Also, they all run at their original speed (SsoR goes a bit slower on the album). Since CMI has already done Bicycle Race and Tie Your Mother Down, I took time to do the same thing with SsoR and You are my Best Friend, essentually making "HD Mixes" of those tracks. Maybe it's useful for some of you (or even with the collection, who knows). link The vocals came from lossless stems I found online

I also cut off the studio banter intros and outros. I'll do the ones from the NOTW boxset next.

![]() And... just a small update of MADE IN HEAVEN album: 1) I Was Born To Love You - slightly changed ending of this song. 2) No One But You - remastered in the original speed of recording 3) There Must Be More To Life Than This - I decided to add this William Orbit mix as it's not a bad arrangement and there's no more Queenie alternative available. I tried to restore dynamics of this awful mix and mastering of the track from Queen Forever CD. 4) Love Kills (ballad) and Winter's Tale (Cosy Fireside mix) - newly remastered. 5) You Don't Fool Me (instrumental) - intro volume fixed. 6) All artwork was reworked to match the upgrade. It is highly recommended to download the whole thing in full. Link is the same. If you don't have it, just PM or E-mail me. |

I do prefer this new version of I was Born to Love You keeping some lyrics while still removing the A Kind of Magic and Living on My Own audio clips in the outro. For completists, this might be referred to as an "alternate outro mix". I've decided to take the original album version and tinker with the volume a touch to fit it back into my playlist keeping original and alternate outro versions (I'm not burning to cd so don't have a space issue). I also agree with your choice to switch out I Can't Live With You Rocks re-take (which is now on Innuendo) for the Orbit There Must be More To Life Than This. I just wish there was a version of it with just Freddie as I really don't like Michael's vocals. Overall, nice update! Thanks. |

CMI, could you perhaps also upload a full instrumental of We Will Rock You? I understand why you've chosen to cut it down, the guitar being the only real instrument, but with just the stomps and claps you can't "sing" (it's not really singing but oh well) along with it, which is why I'd like a full instrumental if you have it :D
cmi 29.03.2020 14:44 |
Ok, I'll make it and share it here.
Jamie74 30.03.2020 08:08 |
First of all: no offense, love your work, big time!! Just curious: why change an original album track like IWBTLY instead of adding a new edit/mix as a bonus track? And why move a track like TMLWKY from Made In Heaven to The Miracle? To me, it feels odd to alter original artist decisions. Personally, I now find myself listening to my original MIH and TM albums and compiling my own bonus discs with your other great tracks. Which works fine for me as well, so no problem there either. I'm just curious about the decision making process :-)

Hi CMI, Please, do add some links for the Expanded Collection. I really would love to enjoy all the hard work you've put into this release... I have live-sound, studio-sessions and editing for two decades on my resume, if I can be at any help just write me. I am really into this Band and would love to help cleaning up some dust or do some spectral wonders if that is needed. Thanks :-) |

CMI, would you consider placing Mad The Swine into its original track placing, between Great King Rat and My Fairy King? Even though the drum segue between GKR and MTS cannot be restored, it would surely be better to place the track in its original place from a tracklist point of view, as opposed to tagging it on the end after Seven Seas of Rhye...? |
||
cmi 06.10.2020 05:30 |
^ it's a myth. | ||
nabz39 09.10.2020 12:51 |
It's a myth that it was originally supposed to be between GKR and MFK? It's understood that there was originally a drum segue that can be heard at the end of Great King Rat, which crossed over into the first line of MTS "I've been here before..." So naturally, My Fairy King would follow after Mad the Swine...? |
