can somebody either tell me or point me in the right direction to some reading material on what sort of stuff was happening on this tour? Apparently there was a lot of tension and wild stuff happening and I'd be interested in knowing about it.
Yes, it's always interesting to read about Queen's partying (i.e. Freddie and Roger's partying). The Hot Space period was presumably the time when Freddie went all-out wild in the gay clubs and bathhouses of New York City. As you can imagine, these were a breeding ground for HIV.
Unfortunately no stories in particular from the time come to mind. But Paul Prenter was of course one of the chief driving forces behind Freddie's excess during the early 80s and around the Hot Space Tour. He was the guy who would get the guys Freddie chose from the club, guys who would be forgotten once the morning came, and who would be changed every night. In a way, I think he was a facilitator and an influencer for all things seedy and wrong which were taking place in the gay scene in those days.
Not sure what sort of things Roger was doing. He was with Dominique Beyrand at the time (not married). I suppose he wasn't exactly spending his nights attending prayer meetings either while they were touring. I'm sure massive amounts of vodka and Bolivian marching powder were involved.

There, crystal clear: John didn't like it. Source: John himself.
Brilliant find, always wanted to hear what he thought, still doesn't really explain why? if he likes the funk side, did he feel it wasn't real funk? or badly done? or what? but nevertheless a great find

I think the guy in the left was called Thor Arnold, a bartender if I remember correctly.
By Jove, yes it is. I recognize him from the 2004 docu Freddie's Loves. He looked a whole lot more hefty in 2004 than in that pic. He was lucky he got out alive from that era. Maybe that bathing suit saved him.
