Here is some additions to collection: They are from my archive which is created in almost ten years. Lots of images have some color correction. There is no any downscale from original image sizes. Some images can be found as small resolution but selected from most interesting and high quality images. None of them are taken by me of course :) So, if someone of you have the original photo or first shared before, please don't be angry with me. I'm only sharing from my archive. If I have the correct date or place, I will add the information. For detailed info please go to great database: link I'm gonna upload total 73 images but today is first 25 ones.. In a similar vein, I've been trying to upgrade the quality of the artwork on my digital files. There are plenty of sites where hi-res scans have been uploaded, and I've made full use of them, but some of my Queen stuff is a bit...niche for them (ie I don't need a GH3 scan). So, I did some research about how best to achieve my aims, and have as a result experimented. If the following is of use to anyone, help yourselves, and if anyone has any better ideas / suggestions, I'd love to hear them too. |
Penetration_Guru 24.05.2016 14:01 |
First - a photo of the inner sleeve of Fun In Space, cropped to make an imaginary sleeve. I think if I reshot this outside in daylight, I could get a better zoom and therefore more clarity, but I think it's usable... |
Penetration_Guru 24.05.2016 14:03 |
I tried a photo of the 12", but wasn't happy with the colours, so this is a 600dpi scan of the 7", cleaned up a little - there's some obvious signs of a dusty scanner, but again, it's better than what I had previously. |
Penetration_Guru 24.05.2016 14:06 |
Now it gets subjective - which of the next three do we prefer? First, the image I was previously using - looks good on the screen, but clearly shows itself as scanned. |
Penetration_Guru 24.05.2016 14:07 |
Next, a photo of the 12" vinyl sleeve - I quite like the way the colours have come out, even though it's sort of washed out in a way that makes it inaccurate. Maybe it's a lack of daylight again. |
Penetration_Guru 24.05.2016 14:10 |
Finally, the same sleeve, but scanned at 600dpi (four times - one for each corner), stitched together then colour corrected. Close up I can see the joins (some blurring and light variation as a result of the sleeve not being parallel to the scanner bed), but once reduced to 3000 x 3000 it works pretty well. |
Penetration_Guru 24.05.2016 14:10 |
Apologies if this represents a thread hijack |

Why "error in upload"? All the pics are uploaded OK, but 16K is a bit overkill for jpeg :-) Do you have a chance for some lossless pictures? E.g. png? And thanks a lot of course |
aristide1 27.05.2016 05:26 |
What you know about lossy and lossless audio files does not apply here. A 5 MB jpg at higher resolution is better than a 5 MB png at lower res (the same picture of course). Unless you ask for the 60 MB the uncomppresed file, or the approx 40 MB corresponding png, wich will be great (literally). |

You are wrong when you ask for a lossless format instead of asking for a better resolution. What about a 300 MB jpg. Not good for you because it's lossy? Come on. |

I had a go at it - ran it through a 50 % denoise in Topaz Labs, brought down the blacks and adjusted colour balance. Some sharpening. |

EDIT: Nevermind, you're most likely right about Dallas. I fact-checked on queenlive.ca, which incidentally was why I assumed it was Paris '79. (I think maybe it was a glitch with the site as I still have a picture of him dressed like this that saved as "79-03-01_Paris_02", but now the picture is listed on the site at Dallas '78. |

Yeah, I've been trying to work this one out lately. It's actually New Orleans 78, final answer. They used the Jazz album bass drum skin for the first few nights of the tour. |

I wonder why Queen reverted to the NOTW drumhead if they had the Jazz one in 1978? Suppose we'll never know, thanks for the education here. |

Did some Google searches based on the Hello drum kit. Eventually found this :) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0730321/ And this page says Hello was taped in October, so maybe Queen were taped in October as well, but not broadcast until November. https://secondhandsongs.com/performance/316167/versions |
