I've been watching this series since the first episode. Great work I have to say, good music and great acting.
Well, last night I was surprised that they used "The Night Comes Down" also some executive appeared making fun of the fact that someone could name himself "Freddie Mercury"!
Anyone watching the series here?
Cheers!
yes..loved the series...i was very nicely surpised when the Queen song appeared...but...the executive said that Freddie has 4 vocal octaves...was that obvious from the first album? anyway...great to hear Queen there!
Hey Leonardo. Yeah I love the show. Was great to hear The Night Comes Down on the show, and the executives were also talking about Freddie's octave range.
I've been watching this series too, and was also surprised to hear this song! Nice to hear some "rare" Queen on media :-)
Yeah, some characters admired Freddie's range but were weirded out by his name, haha.
It's pretty good series, not excellent IMO, but looking forward to season 2! Led Zeppelin and David Bowie among others have been portrayed in it, let's see if Queen would be coming to New York some time next season..
From the ending of the first episode, when the concert hall walls started to crack, and I waited for a pale of blood and Carrie to appear, I lost all interest.
As well as seeing intimidating Peter Grant, the Zep manager, .... all 5'6" of him (!?!), 'intimidate' those around him.
The 'character' appearances to keep my interest....did not. It was too artsy for its own good. The music that was played as background, was too loud and overkill. A semi-realistic inside look at the industry is what appealed to me. What they did, was not. Which is a shame, because it had possibilities, and Ray Romano was really good.
I lloved how they used the end section in the tense portion & the vocal part in others. It's a great song and I would have picked it as a single above KYA, e.g. BUT... I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first reference to Queen in the Vinyl series. In an earlier episode, one of the talent scouts is sitting at his desk reading a magazine, and while it was admittedly blurry, I would bet my socks it was Queen (Queen I photoshoot style) featured on the cover of his magazine.
Finally finished watching the series last night, for which my PVR is grateful as it was getting pretty full. Very surprised to hear The Night Comes Down in the final episode, it was very well used. Set the tension just right... or it would have done if I wasn't thinking 'holy fuck that's the guitar from The Night comes down'. Kept expecting it to fade out but it just kept going.
The series didn't get great reviews, and it's certainly not as good as I hoped, but I did enjoy most of it. The main problem for me, (who is old enough to remember 1973 quite well) is that every time they mention an artist, all I can think is, well they can't sign them, they were on harvest, or RCA or Elektra or whatever.
That's the problem with having a fictional record company and fictional artists among real ones, my brain kept pulling me into reality when the series is basically fantastical.
