Ok...I'am not dead serious about it..so it's just some light heart fun I guess ;) Maybe I've watched the "It's a hard life" Video too much in the past. But do you think he was a bit humiliated in the course of the Video ? Maybe for his asshole-ism during The Works production ? Pointless acting with that skull-guitar :) btw. Rog and John having their scuttlebutt behind Freddie purely for artistic reasons I think. Focus on Bri ( well the few spots he's in) Official Video link |

I'm not sure if wanting a guitar on Break Free is "asshole-ism" ... But he's openly stated many times how much he hated that video. I wonder if John and Roger feel as strongly about it. What did Rog have to say in the commentary on the Greatest Hits dvd? |

The Real Wizard wrote: I'm not sure if wanting a guitar on Break Free is "asshole-ism" ...But asking for a guitar on 'Break Free' was not the only thing he did on 'The Works' sessions. Moreover, there are quite a few guitars on that song ... only not a guitar solo ... and several of the guitars are not played by him, but anyway, there are guitars there. As for Roger's views on 'Hard Life', he said he loved the song and hated the video. |

Four musicians, but only one is filmed holding an "instrument" sp maybe he actually wasn't humiliated. Of course all this could be people looking to deeply for problems. The video is just maybe an attempt to be as over blown as possible and the character BM plays carrying the case up the stairs is the perfect visual lead into the solo from which point everyone begins to leave Freddie on his own. |

^ I think in the commentary Brian said something along the lines of being relieved that he had the chance to hold onto something (the skull 'guitar'). |

There was some tension within the band at the time. It's impossible for us to now analyse exactly what was going on. But, yes, I think Brian did have to make an effort to keep his mouth shut when Freddie had certain ideas about what should be depicted in that video. Not sure it's a 'humiliation' though. Don't think Bri would stand for that. I like it though - it's a good example of tastelessness so awful that it becomes artistically passable. |

HA ! Now they've blocked that Video for me (snicker snicker) |

Brian looks immense in that video. Had they gone for a Frankie Goes to Hollywood themed video including a urination scene he would have been distinctly less comfortable! |
IanR 16.03.2016 21:28 |
I suspect Brian felt far more self-conscious in the video for Body Language: at least Roger seems to be having fun, and John is in the groove. Brian just looks embarrassed. |
Doga 17.03.2016 03:25 |
"It's a Hard Life" video is not "rock and roll", obviously. It seems like an stage from an opera or some fantasy from old times. I like it exactly for that. The other members probably wanted a more serious aproach but i'm glad in the end Freddie followed his idea. Is like the video from Made in Heaven. If anything, The Works has the most ecclectic variety of videos of any album from Queen. Radio Ga Ga - Sci-.Fi It's a Hard Life - Fantasy Hammer to Fall - Standard Rock and Roll I Want to Break Free - Urban Satyre |

The Real Wizard wrote: . . I wonder if John and Roger feel as strongly about it. Oh yes, Roger has gone on record somewhere that he hated it. You can clearly see Roger saying to John at the 3.04 mark, "Oh, fuck off", no doubt in response to the director's instructions LOL |

Best Works song according to me. Love it, love the video. But it is more a Freddie focused video. |
Mr.Jingles 18.03.2016 07:31 |
I love the commentary on the Greatest Hits videos. It's basically Brian and Roger taking the role of Beavis and Butthead and poking fun at the cheesiness of their own music videos. |

Has anyone thought of extracting the commentary tracks off the GVH discs to mp3? It would be nice to listen to them like on the commentary disc from Absolute Greatest. |

Wasn't the whole concept of IAHL video based on some of the Edgar Allan Poe's work ? |

I always liked that video. I don't see why they had a problem with it. A lot of other rock stars and pop stars looked a lot worse in other videos during the 80s than they did in that one. |
AlexRocks 11.04.2016 22:32 |
Well for one they did not look bad. They are just ironically trying to cover some sort of demographic by saying they were not in favor of it. They looked amazing. |
