These are my latest uploads to YouTube: You're My Best Friend - Queen (piano cover with backing track) You're My Best Friend - Queen (piano cover with bass & drums only)
I'm looking for constructive feedback in general really.
I'm no sound engineer and had a devil of a time mixing my piano track with the multi-track stems as I didn't want it to be intrusive but equally didn't want it to get lost in the mix.
I've 'remixed' the track somewhat by adding some distortion to the bass and drums, added some delay / echo to the guitar along with upping the tempo to bring it more in line with live performances.
Hopefully you'll enjoy it.
Not bad, not bad. Thanks for sharing.
My only comments would be that you can't hear the piano well enough, and a few of the chords aren't quite right, the most obvious culprit being the Dm you're playing instead of D on "you're the FIRST ONE, when things turn out bad, you'll know I'll never be lonely, you're the ONLY ONE..." etc.
Double-check what you're playing against the chords here. They're pretty much bang-on.
Actually, one more comment: I'm not a fan of the increased tempo, I'm sorry to say.
I appreciate that Bohardy, thanks. I'll certainly double check chords going forward - I tend only to play by ear.
The tempo change I thought would encourage me to play the piano with a bit more energy if that makes any sense.
I did play around with the level of the piano but any higher than where it is here sounded intrusive to my ear. Equally I played the mix on my phone, in the car, on the home theatre system and some fairly basic studio monitor speakers - all reproduced elements of the track differently so it was really difficult to get a good compromise.

Now where have I heard someone say that before?... AB-88 wrote:

I only listened through iPhone earbuds, so the piano may well sound clearer through other systems. I'm shit at the technical side of recording and mixing music, so I can't offer any real constructive criticism on how to improve the balance I'm afraid.
I understand your point about wanting to give the performance more energy, and it's a good point. I guess for me, the faster tempo just stood out immediately. I was going to ask if you'd sped it up before I noticed in your post that you said you had.
