To my eyes, The Rainbow November 74 gig definitely has slightly better picture quality. Does anyone agree? I'm watching both from the blu-ray releases.
Just wondered: does anyone have any technical info about cameras used? Maybe the BBC cameras used for Hammy were slightly inferior to the privately hired cameras for The Rainbow?
I presume that both gigs were vision mixed live to 2" PAL QUAD tape (and that Hammy was captured to tape in the OB truck… not downstream at TV Centre!)
Thanks in advance!!

Rainbow was filmed for the intension to release this back in the days. Also for cinemas and other events. I believe Gary or Brooks told once Rainbow, Montreal and Budapest were the only concerts shot on 35 mm tape, as the Hammersmith is 2# inch tape.

Rainbow wasn't captured on film, but on ordinary video tape. I think it was later on transferred for film or something like that.
35mm tape is not a thing :) So you surely mean 35mm film. And yeah, as already said above, it was shot on tape and then transferred to film for cinemas. And yep, Hammersmith is definitely made too dark (crushed blacks).

Indeed mr. Mouse. BBC concert productions weren't the best around these days. Zooming in on a drummer when the guitarist did a solo. Noobs!
