From Queenonline.com NEW Documentary: Queen - From Rags to Rhapsody - 18th December 2015, 10pm, BBC4 (followed by Queen - A Night At The Odeon, 1975) As ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ marks it’s 40th Anniversary, this new documentary digs deep into archive to tell the story of Queen as a struggling band gigging at pubs and colleges to the moment they broke the UK with what was to become one of, if not the, greatest song of all time. Never have the formative years Queen’s career been explored in such detail with a wealthy of unseen interviews, recently unearthed rushes of Queen’s first ever video and outtakes from the recording sessions ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ itself. No talking heads. No random DJs or hangers on. This is the unique story of early Queen told by the band. It’s simple. It’s real. It’s raw. It’s what happened. Featuring: - Unseen rushes from Keep Yourself and Liar videos 1973 (Queen’s first videos) - Unreleased interviews with the band conducted by Bob Harris from 1977 - remastered from film to HD. - Queen’s first ever TV interview 1975 - recently discovered in Australia. - Now I’m Here Live on Top of the Pops 1975 - Missing believed wiped, broadcast here for the first time. - Live performances from Hyde Park ’76, The Rainbow ‘74 and Hammersmith ‘1975. - The original demo of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and studio outtakes - unheard, until now. Produced and Directed by Simon Lupton and Rhys Thomas - Edited by Christopher Bird (60mins) Could be interesting... I hope somebody can record it. :) |

I was thinking if they'll do it like they did with the The Great Pretender documentary. I think BBC broadcasted a shorter edited version. Interestingly that shorter TV version had some bits in it that the full version didn't have. |

I know they had a gold record presentation in Perth 1976 on Countdown by Molly Meldrum , I wonder if that footage has been discovered as it was originally wiped by the ABC (much like the BBC did with TOTP, Doctor Who and a million other shows!) Is there a way to transfer an HD recording from a youview box? |

To watch and download it anywhere, get yourself onto Film On. Sign up for a free account and you get an hour of HD recording space for free. Set it to record then you can download your show for free about 30 mins after it finishes, just with a Film On logo in top right hand side corner. That's what I always use. Easy. |

It's a bit strange that a documentary about a UK band broadcasted on UK tv will be shared here from a webstream rip. I really think this forum has very, very few Queen fans from the UK. If there were any, recording off the free to air digital tv (not from any cable tv or premium channel) of the documentary and sharing would be the easiest thing to do. Just the plain, simple, digital free-to-air terrestrial tv broadcast. Or even from that it's impossible to get the recordings out? I know that getting recordings out of boxes from cable tv/premium channels is hard or even impossible, but is it from a free-to-air terrestrial channel? But as history proves from shares about Queen programs on UK tv, there are very few UK fans around here on Queenzone. Days Of Our Lives was shared here in 720p from an outside source, i think TPB. The Nation's Favourite Queen Song was shared here from dimeadozen or something like that.... in DVD format, not even HD. |

https://twitter.com/RhysThomasOBE/status/669638928740294656 reply to "@Queen4everBlog just tv as far as I know. There is no director's cut etc it is as is. It's fun. Brilliant out takes from the song" As for the HD... There are millions of tv recordings made from HD channels over the years from around the world. Even from the BBC. The last one i got my hands on was U2's set Live in Paris from two nights ago. I have for example U2 in Glastonbury and seasons 14 to 22 of Top Gear in 1080i. Last Stargazing Live episodes (the ones broadcasted arround the time of the last eclipse of the Sun) also in 1080i. Many Underground/Train documentaries from the BBC. BBC Horizon, Timeshift and Storyville documentaries. About music (When Albums Ruled the World or Sound Of Cinema), many science/maths/phisic and related documentaries presented by Prof. Brian Cox or Prof. Jim Al-Khalili. The list goes on.... And i'm in Portugal, i get them from the internet. That's why i wonder how is it difficult to get the recordings in HD to share. There must be a way to get them. Before i got a new TV on my bedroom i had a USB digital tv tuner connected to my PC and the areal antenna directly connected to it. We don't have HD channels but i could record directly from the broadcast to my pc and share with everyone. Have you tried a USB digital TV tuner? Connect the antenna to it and to your pc and try to record? Or is it impossible to use a USB digital tv tuner in the UK to watch your channels "on the go"? Many times when i go camping i use my laptop and the USB tuner to watch tv (the tunner also comes with a small portable antenna). Sure you can do that in the UK, watch digital terrestrial TV on the laptop using a USB tuner? edit: found this from Freeview, but maybe they could also make this difficult to take out the HD recordings, i don't know http://www.freeview.co.uk/articles/news-and-features/feature/all-about-usb-tv-tuners.html or http://www.amazon.co.uk/August-DVB-T210-Television-Definition-Compatible/dp/B008D8K50Q If that doesn't let you get the recordings out, you could try USB tuners from other brands like Avermedia (i have AVerTV Hybrid Volar HD), Pinnacle or Hauppauge. Just search for "USB tv tuner" on google and make sure the product specifications match the UK digital terrestrial tv so they'll work in that territory. If that doesn't work (and i doubt it won't), many, if not all USB digital tunners, also work as a capture device. Connect an external device to it and it will capture what that external device is broadcasting. So, instead of connecting the HDMI cable from the youview box to your tv, connect the HDMI cable to the USB device and use the capture options. The youbox won't know if the HDMI cable is connected to a tv or not. |

Now you can open up your computer to a whole new world of great television with the addition of a Freeview USB TV Tuner." And i add: any USB tv tuner you chose to use, just make sure it matches UK tv specifications. It's not now, NOW, but since TV is in the air that you can use a USB tv tuner, analog or digital. Between 2004 and 2008 i even had a pc card for satellite tv. If the "illegality" you're talking is about sharing tv recordings in Queenzone.... you kidding right? I looked into this a bit more and a guy over at TTD uses one of these stand alone boxes rather than a dongle. link He says: You can get them in the UK on e-bay for under £20 It records HD as single 1080 mts file Format USB stick to NTSC otherwise file is divided into chunks. Make sure box has latest firmware (available on August website) Make sure you have a decent signal. One hour of HD approx 2GB - 2.5GB. Play file from USB through box or VLC player on a PC. Alternatively, edit file on a PC. You should be very happy with the results. |
popy 09.12.2015 12:59 |
Hum i think it also could be a solution. Non-branded (meaning not locked to any specific service) setup-boxes. It should have DVB-T2. I have two of those here in my home in Portugal, but not from that brand, but they don't have DVB-T2 because we don't use it in Portugal. Though those weren't available in the UK, that you would have to use specific setup-boxes for basic areal free digital tv (the ones Freeview list on their site). |

Oh yeah, and there was overdub in DOTA on Earls Court, in the "overgrown school-boy" part.Great!!! Is possible also uploading in this forum in raw format?? For sure somebody can create a DVD! |

I recorded whole thing from from the site I linked. Rainbow '74 footage looks incredible (even if it's compressed) comparing to Live at the Rainbow '74 version (3/31/74). Now I'm Here (TOTP) footage is nice and alternate Earl's Court shots was surprising. I also enjoyed Hyde Park '76 thing. |

It seems a bit strange to me that after the documentary they showed the full "A Night At The Odeon" less than one month after its official release? It's even available on BBC iPlayer, don't they usually wait a couple of years to make money on DVD/Blu-ray sales before a first airing on TV? Another weird anomaly, BBC4 have just repeated the concert and this time it has the BBC FOUR logo in the top left corner, the first showing was logo free? |
The Real Wizard 18.12.2015 20:20 |
The BBC website is a bitch - I've got an IP mask up and running, and both the "Video DownloadHelper" and "Flash and Video Download" add-ons can't grab the video. If anyone has managed to save the video, then torrenting is probably the best option (or mega.co.nz). Unless someone did good old fashioned PVR? The stream is a bit pixelated, so HD TV is probably best here. |

Major discovery: Has anyone else noticed that the TOTP Now I'm Here is a completely different performance of the song? And it's NOT the BBC version, either. So that makes three studio versions in all. Also - the stereo mixes of Hyde Park and Earls Court are exquisite. They've clearly done the work (and it's excellent work), so it'd be criminal if they weren't released. |

Marknow wrote: Also the Rainbow clips without vocal corrections are nice. The vocal corrections are still in place - as far as I can tell, they've taken the audio from the 2014 release. The video for the March concert looks bloody amazing, though. EDIT: Except for the clip of Liar with the power cuts - no processing on that one, it's the footage and audio straight from raw materials for the second night. I think it's exactly the same clip that was used in Days of Our Lives (or whichever documentary it was in), which was before they began mixing the Rainbow shows. |

Was the Odeon gig broadcast afterwards the current DVD/blu Ray edition, or was it the BBC version from a few years ago? My Sky planner listed it as 'The Legendary 1975 Concert' rather than 'Live at The Odeon' and the write up was exactly the same as before; don't know if it actually therefore the new version or just laziness them not changing the synopsis and title details. |

Thanks for DJGreg for the download. Couple of notes. It was interesting to see different editing in BR at Wembley. They also had footage of the preparing for Rainbow in 1974 that wasn't on the released version. It was great to see Liar during the power cut. That bit also demonstrated how good Roger's drums sounded when they hadn't been compressed to hell. When Liar ends in that clip they sound liks shit again as that was taken from the official Rainbow '74 release. I'd think they're already preparing Earls Court 1977 as that shitty compressed drum sound was there again in Death on two legs and they had patched some stuff. And damn Brian's acoustic guitar sounded horrible during '39. The way they treat the sound makes the acoustic lose all the character and the actual sound of the strings. It's almost like you only hear the pick hitting the strings, not the actual sound. Hyde Park drums sound compressed too so they'll probably release that as well. It's funny how Brian refers to the BR opera section as all four of them singing, while Roger got it right. It was nice to see those unreleased 1977 interview clips. They varied in quality, so I guess even QPL don't have all the footage in full. |

But I'm not sure why that's on the recording, as what's being fed to tape tends not to be what was heard in FOH. The mysteries of life. |

I'm fine with it being quiet - it's means it's not brickwalled. It's the way it should sound. If this is the way they release it on DVD, then great - turn it up a bit. You can't remove loudness war compression, so this is by far the lesser of the two evils. |

"the picture quality is really iffy".
I suspect that the "A Night At The Odeon" footage has gone from PAL to NTSC (for the official release) and then been converted back to PAL (for this UK broadcast) hence the blurry/jerky movement. I thought that everyone knew that these standards conversions should be avoided if at all possible but this fact seems to have bypassed Queen Productions? Does anyone know if you can buy a PAL version of "A Night At The Odeon" my copy is NTSC but I live in a PAL region? |
