Hi all,
As a massive fan of John Deacon and a bass player myself, the volume of John's bass in the mix is criminal.
What were they thinking? It can hardly be heard except for being boomy at certain points.
His melodic lines in White Queen, Bring back that leroy brown, Killer Queen etc, can be hardly heard. What makes it sad is that if you listen to older versions on YouTube, he is quite loud in the mix. One stand out is his bass during the White Queen guitar solo.
Rainbow, whilst a little more muddy, at least had the instruments volumes mixed well.
This was one of my main complaints. I think the only spots where you can definitely hear the basslines clearly are when it's a main part of the song (i.e. Liar bass solo).
perhaps someone should clarify which mix they're listening to...
2.0 LPCM
5.1 DTS HD (I think)
Stereo CD
Vinyl (which i assume is the same as the CD - haven't gotten the vinyl yet - delayed in Canada)
I haven't heard every mix yet. So I'm not confirming they're different.
However, if someone is specifying that JD's bass is hard to hear in the 5.1 - I would point to that person's sound setup - DVD/Blu Ray setting + amp is usually the culprit.
I also find the bass fine, although there are times I would like some of Roger's tom fills to have been pushed through a bit more.
They seem to have gone for quite a warm sound on this, which pleases me as I found the sound on previous versions to be a little harsh.
