hi guys what are your thoughts on the new DVD? I think the sound is not a good as the Rainbow DVD and also the packaging looks like it was put together by stevie wonder? And last but not least the DVD looks like a cheap knock off copy lol, i just hoped QP could have done a better job? plus extras are poor? 3 songs from the budokan and a 22 minute interview??? cmon guys very poor indeed.. anyway whats your thoughts guys n gals? |
andyb1968 20.11.2015 02:16 |
Its piss poor compared to Rainbow ! If you haven't bought it, don't bother !! |
jondickens1 20.11.2015 03:03 |
I actually prefer the sound quality over the November show of The Rainbow. Much much clearer and less muddy. Keep yourself alive and Brighton Rock are stand outs for me. White Queen is sublime as to is Seven Seas of Rhye. I don't really like the rock n roll medley on either Rainbow or Hammersmith. Never have liked them really. Put the March Rainbow and Hammersmith together and it's one he'll of a track list and show! |

Its Fantatsic! |

I suppose it is the best they could do with a recording 40 years old ! I am glad I just paid for the basic CD /Blue Ray version. You can't even get the booklet out as its so tight, to do so you would rip the carboard sleve.Sounds a bit crap to be honest will hope that the Blue Ray looks better and takes your mind off the sound a bit.No more stuff from the 70's I think ,lets hope for one last double album covering the 80's and I think we should leave the live stuff alone.A real nice Live Killers makeover would be welcome. |

yeah sure, release crap material. |

After watching the 22 min documentary I would say that Hyde Park is almost definitely going to get a release. Nice bit of footage shown towards the end of the documentary. |

They included footage of rock section of the BoRhap from Hyde Park which was included in the 2011 Documentary Days of Our Lives. Geez, the documentary itself showed that this release could be better.... Double disc with Hammy on Cd 1 and the Soundcheck on CD 2... instead they've given us Budokan 75 and only small bit, which according to booklet notes is not even theirs !!! |

Did anybody notice alternate cover art on sites like Barnes and Noble and Best Buy? Somebody listened. But there are still plenty of the original artwork in stores. |
The Real Wizard 24.11.2015 11:59 |
^ interesting ! Who's actually responsible for making that change? And how in the world is that possible after X number of advance copies are pressed? |
brians wig 24.11.2015 14:59 |
link This alternate cover was actually "released" by Queen Poland a few months ago, just before the official artwork was released. It's a damn sight better than what we actually got - far classier! So. I'm not sure it's "real" or not.... |
dysan 27.11.2015 02:30 |
I must say, this release has really passed my by. I think I would've jumped on it if it came out when the BBC rebroadcast it (2011?) but I think the 4 years of speculation about the contents has damaged it somehow. A shame as although it is obviously a very well known performance and I would happily buy it officially to compliment my bootleg versions (going back as far as having a couple of VHS boots of it!) it seems a bit too late. |

At least a release from the NOTW or jazz/crazy tour. Hyde Park setlist is very similar to the one on Hammersmith 75. General public prefer no to repeat songs. |
pittrek 27.11.2015 15:28 |
The problem is that they CARE about general public instead of caring about fans |
Oscar J 27.11.2015 15:58 |
^ Don't know about that. We have gotten *three* different 70's shows in a little over a year, that all have brought plenty for the hardcore fan to be happy about (especially the Rainbow shows obviously). In both releases there are just two or three songs that are known to the general public. We owe them some credit for that I think. I for one really appreciate that they've taken their time to put these concerts out, and I think that if we ever want to see the rest of the 70's concerts being released, we better not bite the hand that feeds us. |

Again, not sure I agree about that anymore. QP have in a very short period of time put out three different concerts with quite similar setlist, with the vast majority of the songs being unknown to the general public. But yes, a 7 concert boxset would be awesome! :) |
Viper 28.11.2015 06:28 |
They have the whole future to release Queen concerts and stuff. They'll go with individual releases. |

Saint Jiub 28.11.2015 15:43 |
The set list differs quite a bit ... Sweet Lady, Flick Of The Wrist, You're My Best Friend, '39, You Take My Breath Away, The Prophet's Song, & Stone Cold Crazy were not on Hammersmith. If I had to choose between Hyde Park & Hammersmith, I would choose Hyde Park. Hopefully Hyde Park is releasable to Brian's perfectionist standards. |
Oscar J 28.11.2015 15:49 |
^ Aye, Hyde Park has the potential to be amazing. |
Nitroboy 28.11.2015 16:02 |
Unless Brian can trigger Roger's drums, bury John's bass, autotune Freddie, and layer in new guitar parts for himself; I don't think he's willing to release something :P |
Oscar J 28.11.2015 17:18 |
I still doubt the drums are triggered in Hammy. They have the same tonality in the soundcheck, it's just that they've been mixed uber tight à la modern metal kid, with almost no ring to them. |
dysan 29.11.2015 04:11 |
What does triggered mean? |
Barry Durex 29.11.2015 07:44 |
I don't know if this helps? |
The Real Wizard 01.12.2015 00:29 |
The best (worst?) example of this in the Queen catalogue is the Live At The Bowl release. I can't listen to it because all I hear is Pro Tools on Roger's snare. It's there on the Rainbow and Hammersmith releases as well, but to a much lesser extent. Montreal, Wembley and Budapest sound the most natural. |
dysan 01.12.2015 03:16 |
Still a bit in the dark. |
Oscar J 01.12.2015 08:13 |
It's automatic replacing of the real drums sound with a pre-recorded studio sample. Google is your friend. |
Biggus Dickus 01.12.2015 08:55 |
dysan wrote: Still a bit in the dark. What Oscar J said. My brother plays drums in a grindcore band and he triggers his bass drums. With that kind of fast and chaotic music the bass drums often sound muffled, so when he's playing real fast double bass drum patterns you can actully hear what he's playing with triggering. The bass drum sound is naturally quite bulky and low so triggering kind of makes them sound more sharp and audible amidst the chaos. |
dysan 02.12.2015 02:54 |
Cheers. So it's just dropping in drum samples into a recording. 'Triggering' sounds more like it's in a live situation. Believe it or not, I'm pretty handy with ProTools but have never heard that term in a recording environment. |

I'm not an expert how that happens, probably similarly as in the studio. |

The snare in the rock section is stitched in - it's a combination of the live kit and a sample. Look at the 24-track master - there's a whole track with the exact same snare hit throughout. |

Same with IILWMC. Doesn't sound that good there, makes the snare sound a little weak. |
