Hello everybody, this should be the "advertisement" of a video played at the last Queen convention. Does anybody know if it can be downloaded or found somewhere?
Thank you.
Really? I know plenty of Dutch people who I've traded with and shared things for decades.
Ok. Rock a La Carte is a wonderful 2 part documentary that was edited together by the same people who did that internet documentary last year.
Said people have been in contact with almost every TV station in Europe (still some to go though) and have acquired either copies of the master tapes, or were loaned the master tapes of many many TV shows shown in the 70's and 80's: not just the edited shows themselves, but also the unused footage for those TV shows.
From that footage, they edited this documentary and had a one-off showing at Convention this year.
Note the words "One-off".
They obtained permission from the TV stations to show it publically ONCE only, so don't expect a repeat performance or an internet download.
Convention goers were asked NOT to film it as any leaks could prove harmful to the chaps who have acquired the footage and affect their chances of obtaining anything else in future.
I will say that although a lot of the footage was familiar to me, the quality far exceeded what I had seen before.
I expect that the footage will end up in QPL archive at some point, though because the copyright belongs to said TV Stations, it may prove far too expensive to do much with on an official release which QPL would ultimately make money from.

Thank you for your answer Brians wig.
I just think it's sad that once again it was the fans doing the research work for QP. I have assumed that by now Greg Brooks or Rhys Thomas have had already donne this research work (calling TV stations). Am i wrong?
Did this fans had access to some footage that is still not in the archives of QP? I would be very surprised if they did.
But it's great that they still have the passion to track down that footage and make a documentary for the fans.
And i want to say something about paying for TV footage. There is not one reason for Queen not to put their TV performances on DVD or BluRay. Not one!
Other bands like ABBA are doing this in their re-releases of their records with an extra DVD. I assume the price is the same for every artist.
It's clear that Queen can't see past the "money" excuse. Pretty lame for a band who sold millions of records and cash in millions of euros every year - and have millions of fans willing to buy their products!
If other bands have the money to spend to create excellent products, so do Queen! So i don't understand the money issue to pay for TV footage, track down the lost footage of Budapest and on and on. Lame excuses!
It's like they're only interested in cashing in, and obtaining things for free.
Other bands would love to have footage of them receiving the American Music Award. Queen just say "Gee, do you know how much that will cost us to includ it on a DVD?". Thank God for Youtube: link
I don't know who is responsible for this "old" mentality to still be in place in QP (maybe Jim Beach), but clearly i think that by now these guys need a reality check and see what other bands are doing with their products, or even investing so their products have better quality (the new Beatles 1 DVD and BluRay).
Rant over! I feel better now :-)

I don't think the fans who made this documentary were doing any work for QPL. They were doing it for themselves and it may just be that the result is that QPL "may" end up with the footage, but without any rights to use it attached.
There's a guy in the UK called Phillip Morris whose business is to digitise TV stations archives. One by product of that is he negotiates a return of "missing" programmes to the BBC.
It may be that these Dutch fans also have a similar business which is how they gained access to the Queen stuff.
TV stations won't let any Tom, Dick and Harry in...!
Well. the Footage was shot by the TV stations, so it belongs to them and resides in their archives. QPL may have VHS copies of the TV broadcasts, but not necessarily higher quality from the mastertapes.
