Father to son simply sounds like fatherhood.
"I've fought with you. ... long before you were born.
"But the air you breathe I live(d) [eventually dead] to give you...
".... this letter, .. you won't understand a word that's in it, but you'll write it all again before you die" (fatherly advice that sometimes falls on deaf ears. .. you won't understand it until YOU'RE the father. Then you'll tell it all again, and it goes on and on. His "fighting by your side before you were born" means through generations (*presumably) each successive generation wishes to better the lot of their own. So he's been with you (even in your genetics and personality) long before you've been even born.
The coda is a tribute to exactly what it says "joyful the sound. .." etc etc.
Son and Daughter has a thread somewhere else. It even had some quotes I believe from dr May
Father To Son is about a dream that Brian had of generations building on top of the previous generation's achievements and society developing through evolution rather than revolution.

What's the source on that? Never heard that bit (*although it somewhat sounds like reality)
If Roger read Astounding science fiction (the reason for Frank Kelly Frears doing the NOTW album cover) then I'm certain Brian had read some Asimov

I am quite certain it was an interview quote by Brian himself, possibly from a fanclub magazine. No idea what issue though.

The poster didn't go on a rant, and did nothing to deserve your response. To some, 'Father to Son' can bring memories of the loss of a father, bad relations, an abusive drunk, etc. The song has meanings and emotions that affect listeners in different ways.
When you grow up, one hopes that you might be a tad more understanding.

Hey, I said it in a good way! I want him to tell his story! I was understanding! The thing is that this is plain text, and text can't transmit neither feelings nor the way you talk.
