I haven't bought the new vinyl box, and haven't paid much attention to the marketing surrounding it.
At a loose end this morning I read one of the new synopsis releases - the one for 'A Kind of Magic', here: link
A couple of things that immediately struck me were:
1) does the first paragraph not read properly, as if they've taken a bit of text out but not reworded it?
2) they go on to mention that "following a teasing snippet of ‘Theme From New York, New York’, Queen close the vinyl edition with ‘Princes Of The Universe’......are they saying that only the VINYL edition contains this 'NY, NY' snippet and the cassette and cd versions don't?? Is this actually the case?
The piece then go on to say that it's a shame that the album DOESN'T include their version of 'Theme from New York, York', but that could be read as it not being included only on the CD version as it is written in the context of a paragraph specifically addressing the cd issue). It's really quite COBTRARY and not clear.
3) the article also states that AKOM is their first album on CD...again, I'm asking if this is true. It may well have been the first one recorded digitally and specifically with CD as a mainstream release option, but I'm sure The Works came out on CD soon after its vinyl and cassette releases (and other albums such as The a Game had also already has limited cd releases too).
Is this synopsis suffering from the standard QPL lack of attention to fact, detail and proof reading, or am I reading it all wrong?
Do the other album summaries contain such issues??
Well, I have the Elektra 'Greatest Hits' and Capitol 'The Works' CDs, so I think they are a bit off there. Was he talking the UK?
(here's a qzone thread on this) link
News to me about NY,NY at the end of 'Gimme The Prize'. Never heard it on my vinyl. But that is what is written on Wikipedia, so it has to be true.....
Never heard any orchestration on 'Gimme The Prize'. Michael Kamen must be peeved that it was so low in the mix.
AKOM did wonders for the sale of CD players due to the bonus tracks on the CD?????
WTF was this guy smokin'?
From 'The Works' review:
"Likewise, Brian’s ‘Tear It Up’ has a stomping intensity that recalls the early Queen albums (specifically Queen II) and also features the composer’s fine vocals."
wow
Will save reading his other insightful reviews for a later day.
These are official Universal Music reviews to accompany the vinyl box set, so presumably authorised by QPL....I want to say that it is beyond belief but sadly this is par for the course for every single official press release over the last 10 years or so.

Pretty bad summation. Though maybe they were referencing Brian's "oooooh ooh oh OH YEAH" background support
Geez. There must be a TON of nepotism going on at "QLP"
