And so it begins..... https://www.flickr.com/photos/136495260@N04/shares/Ga760E This isn't mine by the way, but the fact that a few serious QC issues have surfaced so early on is a concern. |

Why are you complaining?! You could be receiving more vinyl for your buck! ;-) That really looks horrible. Wow. WOW. Astounding. it's not even just warped. It's even improperly cut. This is worse than those UNICEF and ASPCA advertisements on over here on the tube |
thomasquinn 32989 26.09.2015 06:33 |
Good god! I don't think I've ever seen a record that poorly pressed before! How do you even get a record to look like that? |

Jimmy Dean 26.09.2015 16:36 |
ok - that is not from the box set... the game vinyl is supposed to be a light grey... not black... so that was a posting from the single disc versions. |
joerijoerijoeri 26.09.2015 16:44 |
Uh i may be colour blind but i'm pretty sure that's grey, not black |
brians wig 26.09.2015 16:49 |
That swirling crinkly pattern is in mine too, but at least it's a pattern 'in' the vinyl. The rough edges on yours are just unacceptable though. Also. Whoever designed the box didn't make it big enough. A couple of mine have got bloody ringmarks on the sleeves :( |
Jimmy Dean 26.09.2015 16:51 |
possibly then - i thought it was in bad light... it's a shitty grey! lol ah well. |

And another... http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah281/Juggsnelson/IMG_80101_zps4uceb1nc.jpg IMO it seems completely implausible that after pressing 17 other uniformly coloured records, they intentionally made one look like it's been in a pizza oven. And given these coloured LPs have been largely produced for aesthetic appeal, coupled with the fact that the individual LPs can't be replaced, it's pretty poor. Particularly when it's a freaking expensive item. You'd would have hoped a little more care was taken. |
pittrek 27.09.2015 02:38 |
The sad thing is this doesn't surprise me at all. |
TyphoonTip 27.09.2015 02:53 |
Are there any viable official Queen contacts where one might get a response to an issue such as this? It's all very well to contact the retailer / place of purchase (which obviously you have to), but they can only refund or replace the box in its entirety. And if you've purchased it online, which many have, that becomes incredibly problematic. How do you make QPL aware there's an issue that needs to be dealt with? |
mooghead 27.09.2015 03:05 |
QPL are off the radar, they are in a solid gold house somewhere having a great laugh at the mugs who have bought all the albums again...... |

TyphoonTip wrote: And another... http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah281/Juggsnelson/IMG_80101_zps4uceb1nc.jpgThat's what mine looks like. I don't actually mind that much as the patterning is IN the vinyl and won't affect playback in any way. Obviously they had a batch of tablets where the colour wasn't uniform. Interesting that (so far) it's "The Game" which is affected. |
Marknow 27.09.2015 04:47 |
Yikes. Somebody screwed up. Sadly I think it makes good sense not to be in early on Queen releases, never buy the first batch, give them a month or so to correct the errors and then purchase them. :) |

Well you say that, but I bet the process will have been automated in a plant in Germany somewhere and "random" QC checks won't have found anything. I'd love to know how many of these boxsets have been made, but you can bet they're not "Limited" runs. |

Nope. Every mockup (Video etc...) including the picture that features on the back of the box, shows a uniformly coloured record just like all the others. So this suggestion that it was intentional doesn't stand up to any real logical scrutiny. Why make 17LPs uniform, then one with a random melting effect. Makes no sense. It's a mistake. |

got the box... done Queen through Hot Space,,, onto the Works.... each of the clear vinyl releases have a slight discoloration in them - much like the game as stated earlier in this thread... none of them exhibit any flaws due to pressing.. they just look imperfect to light - i'm fine with this... the game - in grey - is also very flawed in terms of the matrix color... however, this particular vinyl pressing was outstanding in terms of sound quality... i have a few CDN copies and a mint Japan vinyl of the Game... this one has best definition in sound... no inner groove distortion, no ticks, nothing. in fact i was able to pick up on some synth sounds in Save Me (last song on Side 2, therefore normally subject to at least some inner groove distortion) that I can't remember ever noticing before... so there you have it.. More on the game.. if you look at the book that came with the box... the vinyl pictured also has some slight "marbling"... nowhere near the photos posted or the copy i have... but there's something imperfect about it. |
Jimmy Dean 03.10.2015 21:43 |

Hi Gang, I was just wondering if any of you have got the box set with the discs in perfect condition? My set has the problems with The Game and the clear vinyls too. I'm wondering if I should send it back for replacement or just send it back and ask for a refund. Thanks, The Voice. |
Jimmy Dean 04.10.2015 21:05 |
Everything in perfect condition - visually - in that they are all FLAT (seems to be a rarity these days - ie. many of the zeppelin reissues i got were slightly factory warped, even after getting replacements) and that they sound as expected. In my box - the only particularities are the following: they forgot to include my download code (i don't need it)... a kind of magic and disc 2 of innuendo has a slight imperfection such that the first 20-30 seconds have an ever so slight rumble (caused by an imperfection in the vinyl) --> not sure if others have the same. The game - yes - has that swirl effect, likely caused by misapplication of the matrix dyes that from what appears to have supposed to have been a slight marbled effect... however, the vinyl plays with absolute perfection... Some of the clear colors show an extreme slight imperfection caused by the application of the dye... only present behind direct light... yea i checked it all out, lol. Soundwise... everything sounds wonderful... a little less so with The Works and Jazz, but that may simply be the way it was mixed - need to hear the 2011 CDs again.. either way, it's not an issue with my specific box - it's the source if anything. Innuendo, SHA, ANOTO, The Game, II, each sounds incredible and stick out vs. the rest - especially Innuendo compared to its 2009 reissue... night and day. (I use a Rega RP6 + Grado Gold... in case that matters) What problems did you have?? |
Voice of Reason 2018 05.10.2015 06:52 |

Given I started this thread, and for the sake of balance, I'll post something I posted in another forum: Well I just got the box today. Haven't played anything yet. That will happen slowly over a loooong period of time. Work and a five year old will see to that! I've checked everything visually, and I have to say it's a thing of beauty. From the care they've shown in reproducing the sleeves (although the hue is slightly off on a couple ...as it was in 2011) to the fantastic collection of pictures/hand written lyrics featured in the book. I haven't read it yet, but I'm expecting little errors here and there ...there always is. But they could have accidentally swapped the text for a bio of Wham, and I'd still be satisfied with the book's visuals. The box itself is even quite beautiful. I admit to being a little shocked at how much I love the look of the whole thing. Now, one would never spend this kind of money on aesthetic appeal alone. That would be utter madness. BUT, this would go very close indeed. I just need a few select titles that I loved from the 2011 series to do their thing, and I'll be totally satisfied. ..Well, I say 'totally satisfied', but given the effort they put into the presentation, it does highlight the missed opportunity of removing the compression/limiting (as the Beatles did with their recent stereo vinyl releases) ...P.S. My 'The Game' looks the same as everyone else's. Aside from the colour, it seems perfectly flat, and visually well pressed. |
antiden 06.10.2015 00:50 |
Listened to "NOTW" and "Innuendo" yesterday. They sound incredible! Especially "Innuendo" in comparison to the original 1991 vinyl. Plus we've got the full-length versions of all tracks. |

Hi Pingfah, I'm glad to hear you are happy with your replacement set. Do you mean The Game is fine as well as the clear vinyls? As soon as I get back from my business trip to Fjnland I'll see about sending it back - subject to the postal strike in Ireland! Cheers, Liam |
Pingfah 07.10.2015 03:51 |
No, the Game still has the swirls. I would imagine every copy has that, I've not heard anybody report that theirs doesn't have it, and it's not going to be corrected unless they have to reprint the boxset in the future. It plays fine though. I don't see any problem with my clear ones, but a few minor imperfections does not worry me in the least as long as all the records play correctly. |
TyphoonTip 07.10.2015 15:31 |
There seems to be this vague rumour that US releases of this box do not contain a download card. My doesn't. If this is the case, then there has been no mention of this ANYWHERE (not that I can find). Including Nth American retailers (online or otherwise). And the only info from QPL around this, was the press statement prior to release: "All box sets contain download codes for high quality digital versions. 320 kbps MP3s" (link Now, I don't particularly need them, but I paid a sh!tload for this thing, so I want them on principle. ...By the way, As far as I can tell, the only difference between the EU and US box is the outer sleeve on the box itself. All the LPs (sleeves included) just have reference to Virgin and Germany & the actual gold box has no mention of anything I can see. Can anyone else with the US (Hollywood) box, confirm whether they have the download card or not? |
brians wig 07.10.2015 16:18 |
You gotta laugh. 320kbs mp3 migt have been "high quality" 10 years ago, but not these days! Shoulda had hi-res downloads available, or are they coming next on BDAudio? I suppose they've gotta have some reason in future for releasing their albums AGAIN.... |
TyphoonTip 07.10.2015 16:34 |
High Resolution sure. But it's simply the principle of what they said was in the box, in fact wasn't in the box. If anyone can find any link explicitly stating that the US box does NOT include the DLs, I'd be happy to see it. Anyway, Amazon Canada have just confirmed to me that the US version doesn't include the DL card. Not happy. Nothing was mentioned. To the contrary QPL set up the expectation that this was as much part of the box as the LPs themselves. This is typical QPL. ....and of course no official response or explanation. If anyone wants to help me others in this situation to get what we paid for, PM me. I'd be happy to provide proof of purchase. |
Jimmy Dean 07.10.2015 21:39 |
I also purchased from amazon Canada... no download card - was a bit annoyed at first... thought it was an error since i also got an extra poster in my Made In Heaven LP... two brian + freddie ones... In all fairness amazon.ca never once mentioned that the downloads were included. In fact, the box itself has no mention of the downloads. Odds are if you're crazy enough to buy THIS box set - you likely already have the 2011 discs by now. This is not marketed to the casual listener by any means. |

Their detail was scant at best. So logically, for that detail, or indeed any detail for something so expensive, one would turn to official Queen sources, like the link I posted earlier. And it's these sources that specifically, and categorically, mentioned the inclusion of downloads. There certainly was no differentiation (mentioned then or now) between the US and EU boxes and what you should expect to find in either. I've been told by Amazon that this only came to their attention after orders were shipped. I don't have the 2011 remaster CDs. That assumption is both speculative and irrelevant. |

good point on amazon's website being extremely vague. also i generally am speculative and irrelevant. but getting vinyl + lossy sound files is rather contradictory to say the least. That's what the mp3 files are for. Regardless, they should have still provided hi res files or, at the VERY least, FLAC/Wav files... |

I'm kind of sick of having my laptop plugged into my hifi and want to get thinking about a new set up based around a dedicated file player. Got a decent record player and think I want a CD player / radio with a HD that I can fill up and leave well alone for a while. I think I've given up on a new minidisc player coming out :)Sonos works well but still doesn't offer 24/96... however, extremely easy to use. Best way to hear 24/96 or even 24/192... a really good DAC... many available... haven't tried this option... but is the next step for me. |

Thanks a million for replying guys. Just as a wrap-up. If you think there are no correct copies of The Game I will just ask for a refund. I have not played the albums (or opened the book) as I think that's unfair when I have decided to return it. Last night I looked at a few Horslips coloured vinyls from the 70s. They are flawless and much better than the new Queen clear vinyls. I do not accept that The Game is anything other than a mistake. The promo video shows no sign of the mess. Thanks! The Voice. |

Is Made In Heaven the blue or the yellow sleeve? All pictures of the box show the blue sleeve, but the separate black vinyl release is just the regular 'yellow' sleeve. |

I'm still smarting from that book box that had half the audio missing. Now available for about £3 in The Works discount bookshops. |

They have updated Modern Times Rock N Roll and it is now correct... but I can't guarantee that they haven't introduced any other cock ups in the updated download |

That shitty mp3 they offered just wasn't acceptable. |

I just received mine from Amazon.ca no download code. I also received The Beatles in mono vinyl box set released a year ago which surprised me that the packaging is exactly same compared to the Queen set. Same flip box lid (same size and dimensions, outer sleeve) the vinyls both had same protective peeling top plastic lid and book was in same location. probably both were made at the same factory. Anybody have Beatles box set notice this? |

I should of made a a unboxing video because it felt like i received two sets of Queen Vinyl with same styrofoam packaging surround and box size. oh btw The Beatles Mono Vinyl set was a better buy at $352.86 compared to Queen Vinyl set currently $449.99. And really enjoying the Beatles set right now, its sounds so good with Mono, compared to George Martin's stereo mix. |
