The new album of Mr. Gilmour is released today! It was a long time since On an Island, nine years.
On an Island was a class album and the tour left us Live in Gdansk and Remember that Night, two superb live albums. This time David Gilmour is touring for ancient arenas a la Pompeii and theaters.
So i'm looking froward to this album.
As a reminder of how good can this musician be, some candid soul upload Live at Gdansk on YT link
don't bother.
i've had a listen - and it'll be my ONLY listen
they said that "Endless River" was nothing better than outtakes and rejects...
well ..."Rattle" is clearly an insipid collection of half-arsed rejects and tame meanderings....that'd be left off "Endless River" had it ever been a consderation
Bought it on I-tunes. A couple of the instrumentals are good, as is A Boat Lies Waiting. Other than that, get ready to "soft rock".
Couldn't even be mentioned in the same paragraph as On An Island.
Bleh.

I loved Endless River, especially in 5.1. The Allons-y (1) > Autumn '68 > Allons-y (2) part is my favourite I think.
I really enjoyed Endless River, but i always like instrumental and ambiance. ER is not obviously standard rock and some people can be dissapointed waiting for traditional rock/pop tunes. As for On An Island it reminds me the feeling of those summer nights at the beach, so i really like it.
Both 'Rattle That Lock' and 'The Endless River' are outstanding. the latter is a wonderful epitaph to Pink Floyd. I hear shades of all Floyd eras from Atom Heart Mother through Division Bell.
People are disappointed by later Floyd/Gilmour releases because they keep expecting another Dark Side Of The Moon.
Gilmour's style has become a panoramic soundscape, almost like the minimalism of Steve Reich played in the rock idiom. I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's unmistakably HIS sound.

not at all. i'm disappointed because he [Gilmour] appears to be producing albums via the easiest route - it really doesn't look like he's trying much. it's the musical equivalent of "painting by numbers"
Have to bring this one to front. The more i listen to "Rattle that Lock" the more i like it. Not the most flashy album by any means, but every song is very delicate, well structured and wonderful to listen, after all this time i like it even more of "On a Island", and that album has the great instrumentals "Castellorizon" and "Red Sky at Night".
Of course i'm also thrilled with the new Pompeii shows performed by Gilmour, you can like them or not but the guy has show true musical integrity, look at their sets, based on the new album with some old hits and Deep Cuts, not a greatests hits show with one or two new songs. Or even the same old album played again with fancy new light tricks.
A really nice picture of the Pompeii gig link
Seeing the pics from the Pompeii gig really brought shivers, even more when seeing the videos. I will say it's sad the chance to revive Echoes in time for Pompeii is lost, but then again, I guess Echoes wouldn't sound the same without Rick Wright. That aside, I wish they recorded this gig for a live release. I'd buy it.

The musicians playing with Gilmour are top notch, so i imagine Echoes will sound good, but the reasons he gave to not play the song are really valid.
I read Pompeii is going to be released and some reviewers noted there were a lot of cameras in the venue, maybe is going to happen. Meanwhile if you are interested, a show from this tour in Wroclaw was broadcasted in TV. There is a good quality transmision available to download in pirate sites.

Gilmour has stated that a lot of of the music died with Rick Wright.
I'm sure there are still moments that are difficult for him every night.
So with that in mind, it's amazing he's touring at all.
