cmi 16.09.2015 13:55 |
Judging by the running time of the tracks, CD doesn't feature Bob Harris' intro but there's no any edits from start till the end. Even the encore-waiting breaks are not edited out. DVD is ok for me. It's a pity they didn't bother to provide additional video from Tokyo gig. It's also strange that only live footage is presented. No press-conference and picnic footage so far. Anyway it was released on Japanese 'Days Of Our Lives' 2DVD set in 2011. |

If you want to get mad about the press release being delayed, take it up with Jim Beach. I can assure you it was originally planned to be announced right before Freddie's birthday. This has become a test of patience for me as well. I don't have much info on deluxe editions. I do have to respect my favorite band and let them have some surprises for themselves. |

A half-good release. I attended the Freddie For a Day event in Argentina and we had a Screening of the Hammy 75 gig. It seemed to be the same one we have seen around for the last 5 or 6 years now?? Almost no improvment at all in the visuals. The only improvment was the sound mix. And now if the only extras we get are those snippets of the budokan 75, boy, QPL are becoming extremely lazy at releasing new stuff. They could have perfectly included the hammy 79 gig as a bonus, which is longer and better(at least for me) than the 75 gig and it is something that has never been released officialy. Besides they keep complaining that they do not have the multitracks, therefore it could not be released as a standalone product, so what a better ocassion than this to let it see the light of day. QPL SHAME ON YOU!!!!! I hope you come up with sometihng better when you put out the press release with the complete official info. and shut me up. |
cmi 16.09.2015 22:26 |
If you think that 75 and 79 shows are good companions, it doesn't mean QPL must think and do the same. I'm glad Hammersmith '79 will be a separate release sooner or later. So shut up now...please. |

Let's hope they do it right when they compile a 1979 box. Including the complete Hammersmith '79 show is the less they can do. Hangman_96 17.09.2015 12:39 |
I don't understand those of you asking to include the 1979 show as part of the bonus material. The 1979 Hammersmith show is an independent concert from a different era which doesn't belong to this release, except for the fact that both events took place in the same venue and on/around Christmas Day. It should be released separately as a standalone release, even if its sound quality is downright poor. And anyone who thinks it's not going to be released, because of lack of titles and because a title which could have been used for the 1979 show has already been used for this upcoming release, is not of this world. |

This has been said before, but here it goes again: Any tracklist that opens with the Old Grey Whistle Test-theme is HIGHLY SUSPECT. There is *no reason* QPL would put that on an official release, and plenty of reasons why they wouldn't. It would mean hours upon hours upon hours of tenuous legal/copyright trouble, having to pay superfluous royalties to add something that has NO BEARING on Queen. |

I'm not over excited about this release. However, what this release and Rainbow last year seems to be indicating to me is a full document if you will of each live period they have in the archives. If this is what QPL are trying to achieve then I'm all for it. Ok Hammersmith 75 never was going to be up there with the Rainbow as we've all seen and heard the bootlegs for years in varying degrees of quality. Looking at the big picture tho,we might just get Hyde Park 76 next year,Earl's Court 77,Houston and the finale of Hammersmith 79 in a Live Killers box set. That's my theory anyway. |

Why do they toy with us so?? Any new content is welcome. Like my post in the other thread about archival stuff, they need to treat the audio material with the same sense they are doing the DVDs now. All very promising. Not my dream live release sure, but welcome all the same. |

So it looks as though the extras total 22m 42.18 s in length. Not great really when the main feature is only an hour long too. Based on the extras titles there doesn't seem to be anything including Lambert performance wise, but it could be that he is interviewed in the documentary piece, alognside a short reference to them going back there in 2012? I suppose at least it seesm to be a 'self contained' release though, which I prefer than doubling it up with another gig such as Hyde Park or Hammy 79. Hopefully the CDs i nthe box set edition will give us some treats. |

I can think of loads of more boring concerts. It was all about the music in the 70's, Hammersmith being no exception even though it's a bit shorter. What bothers me is that we will probably have seen pretty much everything in this release already. |

I think Hammersmith Odeon is a really boring concert. At the same time, I am really happy that they're going to release it and I'm definitely buying the most "luxury" edition. Why? Because I want all 70's releases to be a huge commercial success, so that we can look forward to stuff like Hyde Park, Earls Court, Hammersmith Odeon 79, Paris 79 or anything from my favourite Queen era (1977-1979) they plan to release. |

I find Freddie's performance of ITLOTG:R really good in Hammersmith. He does some cool embellishments like "never set you free.." bit, for example. |

I've never thought it was a bad show either. For two people who were sick they still did phenomenal jobs despite this. If it was really that bad then we would be getting a 30th anniversary Rock in Rio DVD instead. |

An admin on QOL said that the policy of QPL regarding press releases is 6 weeks before the actual release date. Release date is november 13 so - unless I am mistaking - the press release will be next week. Regarding the content: it's pretty clear what the dvd/blu ray and CD combo will be. All our hope should be geared towards the second cd. Let's hope it's a full length cd with plenty of songs from rehearsal and sound check and maybe a suprise in terms of a rarely heard live track (and not just 15 minutes) |

At the same time, I am really happy that they're going to release it and I'm definitely buying the most "luxury" edition. Why? Because I want all 70's releases to be a huge commercial success, so that we can look forward to stuff like Hyde Park, Earls Court, Hammersmith Odeon 79, Paris 79 or anything from my favourite Queen era (1977-1979) they plan to release.I think that's a very optimistic view to take. If I look at the details known so far, it looks to me like this release is breaking with the Rainbow-approach: this looks to be a bare-bones release with very little supplementary material. I'm starting to fear that the beautiful Rainbow '74 box is going to be a one-off, and any further releases might be more like Hammy '75... Let's all hope and pray that 2016 will blow our minds ;-) |

Guys, i think nobody said more about the "box" that include a mysterious 12"... It could be, maybe, CD+DVD+BD+ the announced Bohemian Rhapsody 12" for Record Store Day??? I agree that they should have the entire band in the covers. Of course it's a lot easier to find a good picture with one or two of the members in it, than a good close up picture with the whole band in it. I mean just the size of the stage makes it difficult for all of them to be in a close up shot. Unless they use a picture taken at the end of the show when they're all together at the front of the stage. I always really liked Live Killers cover even though they're hidden in the shadows. |

Unless they use a picture taken at the end of the show when they're all together at the front of the stage. I always really liked Live Killers cover even though they're hidden in the shadows.and... that image from the band on Live KIllers had to be modified (Brian) because his position on the picture wasn't the best as you said, is not always posible to put a 4 members picture on a Queen release unless you create a collage with separate pictures... original picture untouched, almost same positions, diferent angle picture 1 link picture 2 link Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan, 13 April 1979 |

Artwork IS important. The visual presentation is the most important thing if you want to sell it in stores (and want people to check it out on e-tailers). Also, if they can't be bothered to produce proper professional-looking artwork, then what signal does that send about the product itself. And why should we be bothered to buy such a half-arsed product? |
bootLuca 11.10.2015 22:28 |
something strange happened with the "reply with quote" option, I'm sure I wrote it! ;) Anyway, IMHO the cover is not the most important thing, I will buy Queen at the Odeon with any cover The White Album of the Beatles or the official bootlegs released by Pearl Jam are good example of discs that selling well but that don't have a great cover. If Queen release a series of official bootlegs for every tour they did, I bet we would buy it with closed eyes. |

You should think commercially. When this is the cover, it's suits perfectly to the content of the Hammersmith release. Standard and boring with no really suprising extra's. |

Didn't know that about the Live Killers cover. Awesome. At to be honest, never knew John had a hat on, given the rather high contrast of the copies I have! This new on does look a little like one of those unauthorised documentary DVDs you get. |

Dear Queen die-hards, I fully agree that this release is not what we hoped for but still I'm very happy it finally got released! Every Queen-show that hits the shops is a good thing. Also for us, die-hards (like The Real Wizard says). While this release might not be "die-hardfriendly" it surely is a welcome addition to the collection of the average fan. We have a million versions of this show but be sure that there'll be people who like Queen a lot who'll be suprised to find this - to them unknown - concertrecordings in the shop... Not every music lover knows the Queen catalogue inside out, let alone that they know every recorded performance. We really have to put things in perspective and step back a bit and watch this release from an - objective - distance and then the conclusion is that Queen released another stunning and historically significant concert ... Which is actually a lot more compared to many other major bands... If they release Hyde Park next year, make the already mentioned Live Killers box (hopefully with several cd's/blu rays; they have enough 1979 material!), release a 1977 box at some point and throw in Knebworth for good measure. Then I'll be over the moon! So let's be positive for once. Head for the top, hope for the best! |

I'll agree with "on my way up" about this live album being a welcome addition to average fans. For all we know this album could introduce new fans (or fans more familiar with Queen's 80's live performances) to Queen's earlier stuff, like what Live at the Rainbow did last year. I'd still buy/download it even if the artwork is kinda shite, the setlist is almost the same as Rainbow, we'll never see the last two songs on video, and even if the goodies on the deluxe edition is just the replica of the balloons used that night (it'd be a real laugh if that happens). I'm happy enough to give that album a spot in my collection just to see and hear how Queen performed in the 70's. That said, I'm looking forward to more releases, especially Hyde Park, Earls Court (if possible), and a Live Killers box set with Hammersmith '79. |
Doga 15.10.2015 14:02 |
Positivity in the internet? You guys must be mad. As for me, having grown with Live at Wembley, this Hammersmith show is a good release. I still expecting Tokyo '75 to be released at some point in the distant future, at least in audio, but meanwhile, the more 70's shows released the better. Also, the future can be shiny, with the possible releases of Hyde Park, Earl's Court and Houston and maybe Paris or Hammersmith. |

I was comparing my BBC Radio 1 recording from 1986 to the official release, it does sound quite different. There is a bit of a brutal edit towards the end where the BBC removed the Christmas reference. |

All the Christmas references were edited out at some point, and it spread like wildfire. It wasn't until the 2000s that the unedited speeches began to appear. It is strange why they removed that particular reference. I also find it odd that the bootleg ''BBC Young Jockey Edition'' has an absolutely perfect edit where the Christmas greeting was removed during SWAFIB. It's like it was never there to start with, how did they manage that? Then of course there is the matter of the Bob Harris intro being omitted almost entirely in the official release. I shared my lossless (mono) copy of that the other day at the end of this thread should anyone want it: link Here is my nicam>flac transfer of Jailhouse Rock complete with Merry Christmas at the end: link |

And furthermore, I've added a piece of the Bob Harris intro from the Looking Back at the Odeon documentary to Now I'm Here on the official release, cross-fading the two together: link The former is in mono sound, but it's definitely the same mix. It's silly that they cut this for the official release, and they even cut the audience reaction by about 5 seconds before Brian starts playing - but again, these are the same people that arbitrarily cut Mercury's speech before Staying Power on Live At The Bowl. So yeah, it's not quite as complete as I thought it was. |
