Update: Ritchie Blackmore’s touring lineup for his upcoming shows has been revealed. The guitar icon will hit the road with his new version of Rainbow for two German Monsters Of Rock festivals in June, and an appearance at Birmingham’s Genting Arena the same month. The lineup will consist of Blackmore, Lords Of Black singer Ronnie Romero, Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson, Blackmore’s Night drummer David Keith and bassist Bob Nouveau. He added: "This will mean exposing a new singer to the masses, and I’m sure he’ll become pretty famous because of his voice.” _________________________________________ Doing a youtube/google search, I found this guy: link Hear about 10 different videos and sometimes I had a Dio meets Ripper Owens vibe but so far, nothing similar to Freddie. Perhaps there's another singer with the same name... According to The Highway Star site, this guy sings in a lot of Queen/Rainbow/Purple/Dio tributes. Jens Johansson is an amazing keyboard player who already played in Blackmore's Night as session musician (while being in Stratovarius) Current Blackmore's Night drummer is amazing, full of energy and usually adds a little bit of "hard rock" to his drumming. Dont know who's that bass player. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ritchie’s 2016 plans don’t include former frontmen - but guitarist predicts his chosen vocalist will become “pretty famous” Ritchie Blackmore has revealed his short-term rock comeback will feature a previously unknown singer – and not any of the vocalists he’s previously worked with. The Deep Purple and Rainbow founder recently confirmed he’d play a handful of rock shows next June, and later explained some of his reasons behind the move. His latest comments are at odds with ex-Rainbow frontman Joe Lynn Turner’s insistence that he’d be part of the project. Blackmore tells Billboard: “The singer I found is very exciting – he’s a cross between Dio and Freddie Mercury. This will mean exposing a new singer to the masses, and I’m sure he’ll become pretty famous because of his voice.” link |

Is he touring as Rainbow or as Richie Blackmore? I know it doesn't make much difference in terms of personnel but for marketing purposes I doubt he will sell many tickets under his own name. He has left it far too late to do rock music again and I think he has probably lost his audience. It's possible though that he's also booked up to do some festivals as part of a bigger line up, so it might work out. Blackmore appears to be as big a dickhead as ever though. |

He will do only 4 dates in Europe, will be billed as "Ritchie Blackmore" and the plan is to play songs from his days in Deep Purple (he said he wants to play songs from MKI-MKIII) and Rainbow (mostly Dio songs, he said) There's not a lot of info about those dates, except that he will play with unknown musicians and Joe Lynn Turner will not be singing with him. lol |

i don't understand what part of the interviews/press releases (so far) constitute "as big a dickhead as ever" i think he's only ever been a dickhead around other dickheads and if he is doing a rock comeback (of sorts) then surely it's Ritchie's choice who he works with and NOT Joe Lynn Turner's choice. Joe Lynn Turner = 4th best rainbow singer |

Playing medieval folk music might be a clue. Was he a dick when he fell out with ... just about everyone he has ever worked with? I would say yes, But actually, I was thinking more of his recent attitude towards David Coverdale and Turner. Of course it's his choice but clearly he wants that on his own terms and doesn't want to compromise. So he's lost Coverdale for a possible Deep Purple-style reunion back in 2012 and now he can't come to terms with Turner and is instead using an unknown while touring under his own name. So back to my original point: let's see how commercially successful that is for him. |

agreed (mostly) however, Rainbow was "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" therefore he can hire/fire whoever he chooses as I said - Turner = 4th best rainbow vocalist as regards fall-outs - he didn't ever really fall out with Lord or Paice - i think that's because there was a mutual admiration and respect. whereas he could behave like a dick around Gillan and Cov - mainly because both Gillan and Cov were dicks of the first order. Gillan's behaviour was the reason for his first DP sacking, and you only have to look at what DP became AFTER Blackmore's departure(s) first time round - they becamse a fucking shambles - lasting 18months until implosion - that was Cov's DP second time round - the only other band member with any self respect walked away also (ok it took Lord 6 years to do it) but he could see it becoming the autotuned-pantomime version of itself it ended up being. If Blackers goes down the various singers option he mentioned this could be good - as you'd effectively have a perfect voice for each Purple/Rainbow song. as regards his "men in tights" thing...it's the one thing in his career he's done for the longest continuous stretch - so he must be enjoying it/life. getting your work/life balance right is NOT being a dick - regardless of what trad rock fans may think |

Using unknown musicians is Blackmore's trademark (Cozy Powell being the exception) and he knows where to find new (and amazing) musicians, so Im really interested in this new guy. Im not interested in Joe Lynn Turner and in fact Im happy he wont sing in the next gigs! As for Blackmore's attitude against JLT, well, he deserves it. He talked shit about Candice and her mother (who happens to be Blackmore's manager, lol) also, JLT lost his touch long time ago, he NEEDS to talk about Purple or Rainbow (or play songs from those bands) to be relevant again. The live version of Stargazer he did a few weeks ago was awful! As for Coverdale, well, I love Coverdale but he really needs to rest his voice more often, I saw him in the last 2 tours and while he still had the energy, his voice wasnt in good shape. Also it seems that beside the failed MKIII reunion (and the failed Blackmore/Coverdale proyect) they are still in talks to do something. I have high hopes for this upcoming shows! |

Yeah that's all great except this is a nostalgia tour and the potential audience won't feel very nostalgic for a bunch of newcomers. |

Holly2003 wrote: Yeah that's all great except this is a nostalgia tour and the potential audience won't feel very nostalgic for a bunch of newcomers.not so sure Holly. i think Blackmore has been out of the rock circle long enough that (if promoted properly) this could be really great. i'd like to throw in one "possible" Blackmore talked about using (upto 4 singers) - so i'd like to suggest that although the JL Turner thing could well be dead in the water...i can still think of a way to get Cov back on board the mkIII purple thing - could include Cov/Hughes - that takes care of two singers and nails down a great bass player i'd suggest that Bonnet's voice would suit lots of the mkII purple stuff as well as his D2E rainbow songs so don't rule either out |

There may be nostalgia for the songs, but not for the man as he keeps rocking his old Strats in Blackmore's Night... But as it always happens, most rock/metal fans doesnt listen to his amazing lives so they think he havent touched an electric guitar since 1998. |

This might be the last time Blackmore plays rock music and his arrogance might mean it's more of a damp squib than a major event. |

Blackmore was and will ever be a hit or miss and agree with you about what those shows might mean... Still, as a Blackmore fan, Im more interested in his current band than his previous. Sadly he's not a young guy anymore so his energy will never be the same as before but his old magic is still present, so Im curious about he has to offer. |

^ the guy could really surprise us maybe with some fantastic "adult" work. with a proper tunesmith there could be real potential... but it's also about the storytelling. hopefully it will coincide with new work and not just a tour with a young front like some other ....band.......... *bands I know |

I've heard him singing and he's more like a cross between Ronnie James Dio and Ronnie James Dio than a cross between Dio & Fred. Not that that's a bad thing. To anyone paying more attention to this than I am, has there been much of a buzz about these shows? I imagine there comes a point when so much time has passed that interest is no longer there (a bit like how I feel about the Hammersmith 75 release). |
