Whats the theme of Innuendo?I mean the cover shows a clown/mime guy and then there is the reast of the band like that. Also they are kind of dressed like that in the video of I'm Going Slightly Mad.Is it maybe becauze they were hiding Freddie was ill?Sorry if this has been asked again.

The work was either FROM, INSPIRED BY or a MODIFIED VERSION of Jean Ignace Isidore Gerard Grandville.
Don't know why they chose it, but the front cover is from a drawing called "juggler of the worlds" (or something like that)
Maybe it was a suggestion or INNUENDO that their days were past and they were now relegated to history books? (Art books) much like he.
I don't know at all. The song itself is positive, affirming in human endeavor but struggling without reward. (Left in utter confusion about life and what it might possibly mean/be worth)
It's a very pensive track. I have no idea why they went with the artist. Maybe it was a brainstorming decision.
Perhaps someone willing to chronicle the time of video releases vis a vis singles etc before or after the album wouldbeable to draw conjecture from it.
I'm not an art historian. Wish I knew.
Ask Brian.
FTR: these are the kind of things that should be asked in rerelease liner notes. When I bought my Hollywood records CROWN JEWELS and anticipated the ESSAY (OF ALL THINGS! ) I hadn't anticipated it would be the genetic "rah rah" that it was.
If only they found someone passionate about music instead of the dolt they found from mtv.
Jazz records get the treatment. Why weren't there reference materials about the photographer for THE WORKS included and as to why Freddie wanted him (old time glamour photography)
Those questions would and could only endear a band to a public audience and would lead to a greater appreciation of the works (possibly) if approached as REFERENCE WORKS FOR OLD CATALOGUE as they should be.
Just saying.
Geez I tend to get hot under the collar when rambling about the LOST OPPORTUNITIES of the Queen catalogue.
Thank god I'm in like company.
Well I wasn't talking just for the song innuendo but the album as well . Thanks for the reply matt z . D: Sorry i couldn't figure out how to reply to a comment

Well, the whole album used Grandville artwork (front and back cover) and others inspired by.
The album's singles all had corresponding Grandville illustrations: (exception being Headlong in some markets)
Might be one to ask Dr Brian May on his soapbox
