Definitely not my favourite Queen song but definitely not the one I hate the most (that would probably be Cool Cat). The main problem with Delilah IMO is that it sounds like a demo, not a finished song. |

It's appallingly silly (especially lyrically speaking) and approaching quasi-mediocrity, almost like a novelty joke song. But from a personal standpoint, I can understand why it might appeal to some people, especially cat lovers for whom Saint Freddie can do no wrong. Definitely not the very worst Queen song, but so out of place on Innuendo. |

I like the song. I don't listen to it very often but it's a nice and sweet song. The guitar solo by Brian is great and the "you are the apple of my eyes" part is beautiful. There are much worse Queen songs, like Don't Your Lose Your Head or Party. |

It's a fun song and proves once more that Freddie loved his cat very much. As to the song being out of place... If Freddie released solo album in 1991, Delilah would be on it as it resembles his solo work. Though I wonder if they were fiddling with different instrumentation or the synths were there from the beginning. 2011 deluxe edition was an opportunity to make something with this track but they missed it. |

Partly a question of taste, but partly a question of consensus. There is consensus that Delilah is an inferior song to the rest of the ones on Innuendo - indeed also to most other Queen songs. Doesn't really matter what you care or don't care either. We're not discussing who cares. |

Mr.QueenFan 26.08.2015 16:14 |
I don't see anything wrong with Delilah. In fact, when i listen to the Innuendo album this is one of the songs i want to hear. A love song to one of Freddie's cats. Give me an emotional song like this any day. It's positive, with a wonderfuI message, and it makes me feel good. I prefer this song to any twelve-bar blues song by a 70's rock band about girls and cars. This is what makes me enjoy music - Emotions! I'm with Freddie here "who cares if my fans are going to be embarassed about my meows when i'm dedicating this to my cat?" That's right, not me. I love the track and in fact, one of the reasons i love Innuendo so much is because there are songs in there that i cannot find in any other rock group, or musical group for that matter. They are "All Gods People", "I'm Going Slightly mad", "Delilah", "Don't try so hard". Of course there are the hits, but who could record such songs as the ones i've mentioned? I don't want sameness in music and i really respect Freddie for recording songs like this one. If i want to hear other styles of music i go and listen to other bands, but then again other bands simply don't have the emotion that Queen music has, even if it has meows in it. |

Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 26.08.2015 16:53 |
In my humble opinion, Delilah is absolutely awful. No excuse could ever explain how it landed on Innuendo or on any album by Queen or featuring any of its members, producers, relatives or fans (heh). It is absolutely embarassing and it can only be explained by the emotional state of the Band, which lead them to a very bad decision. All of that, again, IMHO. As a side note, I actually find it quite funny that some people even try to compare THAT to some great Queen songs, claiming these would be worse. I need to finish saying that I respect everybody else's opinion on this and that the Band has, of course, every right in the Galaxy to choose whatever they want on an album of their own. Cheers, Ogre- |

I've said this before... but in my opinion it is truly awful. Possibly... possibly... There are days when I think Man On The Prowl is worse, but generally I think it is the worst song they released. But I'm glad some people like it, one of the joys of Queen is the many different types of song they recorded. Theres about a half dozen songs they released that I have only negative thoughts about. that's a pretty good ratio. |

I don't mind Delilah. It's a fun song and Queen have always had those type of songs in their arsenal. Maybe if i wasn't such a Queen fan, i would be able to take my rose-tinted glasses and label it as cringe-worthy and embarassing...but i dunno, it just doesn't bother me. I definitely feel there are worse songs in their catalogue, but not many. I also think the band were totally right to include it considering the circumstances. I can't imagine how hard it would be to say to an enthusiastic, upbeat, excited Mercury who never thought he would be alive to make this final album, that a song that he's so happy about and has given him the strength to be able to sing today...is shit and is in no way going to be on the album. If the song was written for The Works or Magic...maybe the rest of them would have said 'nah, not sure about that...probably one for your solo album'. But considering the context of the situation...very hard for them to say no i feel. |

i didn't say they weren't. i said they're silly - but that doesn't exclude the possibility of them also being good songs. point being that Delilah is silly and not good. it's only on the album out of some misplaced loyalty. it's the band in the recording studio version of pity. shameful sentimental clap-trap. and i know i'm going to get flamed over this but consider this: If you were introducing a friend to Queen and you had to choose a dozen tracks to "sell Queen to them" only the criminally insane would pick Delilah. i'd get (at least) 100 songs down the list and it still wouldn't warrant a mention |
tomchristie22 30.08.2015 09:42 |
Delilah is a fine song. Musically, at the most fundamental level, it's quite pleasant, with some very nice melodies. The synth sound perhaps makes it less appealing. With a different set of lyrics, and no vocal 'meows', I'm sure it would be much better regarded. |
