Well, not that old in the grand scheme of things.
I bought Carole King's Writer album not so long back, has anybody else here heard that?
For those who haven't, a track from Writer: link
Not only that, but an album called "Now That Everything's Been Said", a one off album by a group called The City, which Carole King was the lead singer for.
If you've not heard that either, here.... link
I should imagine some of you would've heard these before, but believe it or not, I only heard her biggest album, Tapestry, in 2013 for the first time (how that escaped me for so long I don't know!), then I decided to check out her other stuff.
The three above mentioned albums are my favourites by her (along with her Carnegie Hall live album).Other than that, her later material doesn't appeal to me too much apart from the odd song here and there.
I liked the albums I've mentioned so much, that I decided to get them on LP as well as CD. (I sometimes do that with albums I really like).
Tapestry is available as a MOFI LP, which I'm waiting on to arrive through the post. When it comes to Writer, her album from 1970, I ordered a first pressing / sealed version of it. It's been sitting around longer than I've been alive. Strange thought really. That's also on its way through the post. But now, I'm thinking, should I open it? That's a long time it's been sealed.
nice thread. i like the old "City" album - it's not a great, but it has it's moments.
her pinnacle was Tapestry.
as regards other older music - depends what genres you're looking for - but as a cross-section:
Strawbs, Argent, Ballard, Joe Cocker, Blunstone, Buffalo Springfield, James Gang, Albert Hammond, John Mellencamp, Elton (early stuff) Janis Joplin and Frankie Miller, are all worth a listen
