Here's the original source. Thanks to Sikke for uploading - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7dzhGdxgJ0 Some of you may have noticed that I already worked on this video before. Well, this should be the definitive version. There was a guy who worked on my video and removed the streaks and stuff, but he converted it to NTSC and probably left Smart Resampling on in Vegas which resulted in ghosty motion - blends. Plus the MPEG-2 compression he used isn't the best and video looked more compressed. This time I removed all the film damage myself, partly manually and generally just made it to my liking. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/b4a4/9hptk391uhyiz7y7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/1818/isnus9lf4kf7bfc7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/a0cc/08j6s8xmw952rbp7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/2621/28n14orx7abyd7a7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://mega.nz/#!JdNnFbjT!fd7v6rs4BFbI1fpopUvsyMb4R_eruyU-LGtpOGdFAOA Enjoy! :-) |

Thanks for sharing this Chief. It's brilliant! The amount of fixing you did just for the first 10 seconds is amazing. |

Just fantastic. Well done and thank you. Watched it three times. Probably my favorite Queen video to one of my favorite songs. |

That is an amazing job. I watched the version from "Greatest Video Hits" right after yours and, after seeing your restoration, it's sad that they even released the version they did. I honestly think you should email Brian about your version. If they would decide to reissue their videos on Blu Ray, your restoration definitely deserves to be on there, in my opinion. |

Thanks for kind words, guys. Nice idea, but it probably wouldn't work. This is merely a tweaked youtube rip. If Sikke provided an HD transfer which we could work on, I'm sure he could get it through to QPL as well afterwards. But who knows, that's up to Sikke. |

There is one thing I don't like but as I see it the problem is already in Sikke's original. The bright parts are too bright. All the fine detail from Freddie's face are gone, e.g. you can't see he wasn't shaved. But that's a transfer problem, so it would be great if the owner did a new transfer, but that's too greedy :-) Anyway, a technical question - how did you remove some of the stuff? I mean I know there are pretty good filters for removing dust spots and scratches, but how did you remove the damage which I don't know the English term for, but you can see it on your third picture? Was it again some filter or did you manually painted them out? And thanks for the share of course |

As far as I know, there are no filters which can remove streaks that big, at least not without affecting the rest of the picture drastically. |

As far as I know, there are no filters which can remove streaks that big, at least not without affecting the rest of the picture drastically. Thanks, hehe. Well, there's just one reason I did it. This video, although taken from youtube, is a direct film transfer and I think after my enhancement it is better than the version on Greatest Hits DVD. So I think it was all worth it given it's a piece of Queen and music history which should be preserved in the best possible way. I didn't remove all the small spots though. That would have taken years. Avisynth took care of most of them, I just did some final "proofreading" and finalizing. Mostly these big streaks only occurred a frame before and after the cut so if this video had many cuts (angles changing every so often) it would have been even more of a pain :P |

Fantastic job. You've made the video 10 years younger, so 4 hours or more of photoshop and Avisynth are worth it. PS. If QPL is not wise enough to employ you, I figure you can get rich by touch up photos of fat girls, or better, "flabby wives", as someone here joyfully mentioned. |

Here's what I said - "You mean the glow around the middle lighting rig? Judging from the screenshot it doesn't look like a video issue but an actual glow." --- This kind of stuff is what I removed with Photoshop. The big streaks, not sure how else to call them. Avisynth can remove the small film spots with no problems but it fails when it comes to damage like this. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/39f7/ssljloleittoa5g7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/24f0/ya3y4ptjhln3ffi7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> . |

I just want to say something. Now, the Beatles are going to release their number 1's with DVD/BluRay videos in excellent quality. There's already a trailer on their youtube page. After i saw the trailer and read the description of the video, and all the work they took with a team of 18 people who worked around the clock for some months, it makes me appreciate even more the work that ChiefMouse put into his videos, specially this one, wich he made it look better than the official source, with a youtube sourced video and just his tools that he has in his home - which i'm certain can't compare to what the Beatles and Queen have in their arsenal. Here's a split screen for the "Penny Lane" video. You can read the description under the video: link I've said it before Chief, you are a genius, and i hope that one day you'll get to work for some major artist. If QP were smart, they would have already contacted you to help them out, at least for quality control of their videos. But probably, many people there are too insecure to bring someone with your talent to the team. That's the only reason i can find for them not to contact you. Probably, Brian and Roger aren't aware of your work because people around them don't want them to. |

Thanks for the comments guys :) Not sure what was up with the link. I edited the post and replaced it with the same link and now it seems to work. As for video restoration work - Avisynth is a free small software, created voluntarily in like 2001 on scripting base which some student wrote. Nothing's changed in it since 2001 apart from loads of new plugins and scripts written for it by many extremely smart people. I am not even as smart and knowledgeable to create my own plugins, I just use what other people created. So this pretty much means I am nowhere near as great as you're telling I am, MrQueenFan ;-) Anyone could do it if they dedicated some time to learning this software and understanding some of the basics of video. Beatles and Queen people probably have DaVinci Revival software - https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davincirevival/software . And they have a million times faster PCs, mine has a CPU made in like 2007 (Intel Pentium 2.5Ghz Dual Core. Now even phones have quad cores :P) and 2GB RAM. As you can imagine it's pretty darn slow. I wish I had their tools. Too bad this DaVinci Revival Pro costs $9,995. |
