I fear it will be useless and the usual collectors thing over and over again. I don't know nothing about it but I feel the vinyls will be featuring the 2011 remasters: totaly useless. The only way to release a very good vinyl box set is re-mastering all the albums in analogic way, using the old remasters. Something like the 2005 ANATO very good vinyl. |

What really counts is the mastering, and not really the format. Blu Ray audio, for most of the releases, have featured subpar masterings, to be polite. A high res release of a awful master is pointless. If these LPs feature the 2011 digital remaster, count me out. |

Blimey. You're all so negative. My insides source is telling me that it's a 15 LP ANTHOLOGY set full of demos and out-takes. The band apparantly want to cash in on the massive profits they make from vinyls by releasing this stuff on vinyl first, thereby ensuring that when the CDs come out a year later, we'll all buy them again to get crackle-free copies. I dread to think how much this will cost though considering they believe £75 is the right price for Queen Forever with just 4 LPs... £250 perhaps in Europe and £100 in the USA and Canada (going by current prices....) |
||
EDWOOD 05.04.2015 18:11 |
A 15 vinyl Anthology set?! I would love this to be true but I very much doubt QP will be putting any such release out this year. Also releasing something like this on vinyl before on more commercial formats doesn't make much sense (even though vinyl sales are going up slightly). |

I really wish they'd press Live Killers, Live Magic, Live at the BBC, Wembley 86, The Bowl 82, Montreal 81, Greatest Hits I, II, AND III, Classic Queen (USA) and Greatest Hits (USA), Queen Rocks, Absolute Greatest, and then an album of B-Sides, in addition to all of this. The reason why I include those albums is because at the time those albums were albums people knew, not the studio albums. You know what I mean? It's kind of odd, I know, but that's just what I think. This won't happen, but I can still hope. I'm actually looking forward to this. I don't have the UK cover for Queen I, so it'd be nice to finally have that. Also, Made In Heaven is too expensive, so I don't own it. |

As this is a 15 disc set, clearly 'The Cosmos Rocks' doesn't get included as a 'Queen' album in this, (and most other) set; whether rightly or wrongly, that is an argument for elsewhere(!), but what it does say to me is that they should NOT have issued it under the 'Queen' name at all in the first place - if it doesn't count to Queen (Brian and Roger) themselves when putting this set together, then they should have been brave/sensible enough to go the 'Page & Plant' route when recording new material with only half the original band.
AlexRocks 07.04.2015 11:45 |
Huh-huh! "The Cosmos Rocks" is rightfully a Queen studio l.p. It is their sixteenth one! Outside of that calling it "1973-1995" is fine if that's the route they wish and or choose to take.

TCR has some nice bits here and there but the whole album is a rock cliché with some woeful lyrics in it. We got the cosmos rockin to the mighty power of rock n roll? My arse they do. If the lads came out and said they were on meth while they recorded it then I would understand why it is so shite. I haven't listened to TCR for about 3-4 years, it's too cringe worthy to enjoy it, SINT is maybe it's only saving grace. Paul, Brian & Roger as artists are capable of much more. |

I know why they did it at the time, but the concept didn't aged well. Sometimes you can't appreciate the melodies, or it destroy the mood of the song. I am into soundtracks and instrumental music, so a remixed FG album without dialogue will be a great thing. |

I do not take rock lyrics seriously, so the cliches do not bother me and I find them fun and amusing. What the FG album needs is for them to go back to the masters and create a new mix. It's as dull and flat as dishwater and the bonus tracks added to the 2011 release prove it!

The drums are horribly weak - a legacy from Mack's recording techniques that he introduced on 'The Game', where ambient rather than individual close mic'ing was his preference. Hopefully with today's technology these could be 'beefed up'. |

He didn't really get it back in the studio until 'The Miracle'. |

Cheers Walter. Ah...no 'The Cosmos Rocks'?!! If they want to do these re-releases 'properly' they should release them in exactly the same format as the vinyl releases first time around...but then again if these carry the digital audio master which was done specifically for CD (which I suspect they will), then that's out of the window anyway. So individually the cost will be £325 or thereabouts (depending on store) - do we reeckon the complete set will cost a bit less? |

Live Killers can be fixed by going to the archives and listening to all the gigs recorded for Live Killers back in the day and choosing again the best performances and making a new master. It's a hell of a work but it's not like QPR's guys responsible for that kind of job don't get paid for it. I wonder when will they announce the project which was described by GB as being on par with Live at the Rainbow..... |
||
dysan 04.05.2015 09:18 |
I love Live Killers. Me as an 8 year old listening to it for the first time didn't know what a edit was and by the time it was so ingrained in my DNA I didn't care :) I do like the idea of expanding it to include tracks that were chopped out - STL, It's Late etc, but maybe corrupting the running order might ruin it. Bowie did that when 'David Live' and 'Stage' were reissued in 2005. They sound great but the integrity of the original albums was compromised. If we're talking boxset, I'm sure the original album can be included as a separate entity alongside DVD and new audio. |

After a 25 year + gap, I've just started buying vinyl again, but even so, unless there are some extras in terms of tracks or packaging, I cant imagine I'll buy any of the Queen albums again. I have most of them at least twice already. One thing that seems to becoming the norm. is the inclusion of digital downloads when you buy the album. I jus bought Crime of the Century by Supertramp, which is a 3lp set. The original album plus a douple lp of tracks from a Hammersmith Concert in 1975. (I don't think its the full show, but I'm not such a big fan that I would know) Anyhow, came with a free (mp3 admittedly) download of all 6 sides. The new Magnum Double Live LP on vinyl comes with the cd version in a plain white sleeve included. Now including downloads wont make much if any difference to the people on this forum, but surely they need to do that if they are to catch some of the not so die hards. I imagine these things have to appeal to more than just the people who already own them in different formats or they'll just lose money. Anyhow, I'm hoping they have some beautiful packaging if nothing else. |
