Inspired by another thread, what do you think would be a better tracklist for "The Works"? Mine would be Side A 1. Machines (Back To Humans) - I really think this would work as an album opener, both lyrically and musically, especially since this would be the first song you hear after Hot Space, but I'd prefer a shorter version 2. Man on Fire - probably as a Freddie/Roger duet 3. I Go Crazy - I really like the idea of this song following MOF 4. I Want To Break Free - but in a different treatment. I never liked the 80's "synthpop " sound, the live versions are so much better 5. Love Kills - a rock version, something like the remix on Freddie's solo box 6. A Hard Life - I wouldn't change anything on this one Side B 1. Let Me In Your Heart Again - probably the same version released last year 2. Hammer To Fall - the Headbanger's remix 3. There Must Be More To Life Than This - maybe a Freddie/MJ duet 4. Radio Ga Ga - a re-worked version similar to the live versions 5. Is This The World We Created? - just a simple acoustic song to end the album |

Here's how I have mine: Side 1: Machines (Or 'Back To Humans') Hammer To Fall It's A Hard Life Let Me In Your Heart Again Radio Ga Ga Side 2: I Want To Break Free Keep Passing The Open Windows Man On Fire I Go Crazy Love Kills I would keep all songs as-is, except Break Free would be the single remix. Ideally, Man On Fire would have Roger on vocals, but it would more likely have Freddie on vocals. (Oh, and There Must Be More to Life Than This and Man Made Paradise would appear on my reworked Hot Space.) |

It's a Hard Life Machines That's it: a single, and then a single again two years later (double A: 'Who Wants to Live Forever' and 'One Vision') and no album until 'The Miracle.' |

Would you have had them still perform tracks like Magic and Hammer to Fall live? |

Side A: I am better than Queen Side B: This album would be so much better if you listened to my half baked idea for the tracklist more than 30 years after it was released. |

I think you can not put both Hammer to Fall and Let Me In Your Heart Again on one Album, because I think Let Me... sounds very much like a ballad Version of Hammer in many places ( especially the guitarsolo parts). At least that was my first thought, when I was hearing the song for the first time. And as I don't think it is that good, I would drop it in favor of Hammer To Fall. Also I do like I Go Crazy very much, but I think it doesn't really fit on that album, it sounds more like Jazz or News Of The World to me. So my Track list would be: Side One: Machines (or ‘Back to Humans’) It’s a Hard Life Tear It Up I Want to Break Free (Album Version, I just Love that Intro) Keep Passing the Open Windows Let Me Live Side Two Hammer to Fall Love Kills (like they played it in the US last Year) Man on the Prowl Radio Ga Ga Is This the World We Created...? |

AKOM no... there are at least 40 songs they could've played instead, which are way better. |

I believe I started this tracklist thing.. now I'm cringing at everyone's inclusion of Machines on this album. If you could do it all over again... why would you ever include a song with the word "parahumanoidarianised"? Jim Morrison & Leonard Cohen have both tried it, and failed. Then why oh why did Brian May think it could worked? Ah well, that's just my take on it. |

Machines is an awesome song. I love playing it on my gramophone. |

Gotta agree. But you've gotta realize this is just a fantasy exercise. People omitting even Radio Ga Ga ... wow. It's hardly a great album. But at least the PRODUCTION is incredible. (On all but MOTP)... as much as I love Brian's guitar on KPTOW you know it's not their greatest song, But it HAS beautiful elements. Something totally missing on TCR (*which ought to be revisited in this same type of topic) THE COSMOS ROCKS (cd single) side a 1. *the song formerly known as Surf's Up School 's out (*even if you make it an instrumental you increase the songs relevance) 2. We Believe Side B 1.C-lebrity 2. Say it Ain't so |

Radio Ga Ga saved Queen's career. Without it being a success, which meant The Works was also a success, they would probably have called it a day. So any alternative track listing that doesn't feature Radio Ga Ga makes no sense except maybe in the lala land of some people's minds. |

Pittrek, you really made me think about this one, and here's the set-list and changes which I've come up with. What do you guys think ? SIDE A: 1. Tear it Up (acoustic drums, mixed in the way I Can't Live With You was for Queen Rocks compil.) 2. There Must Be More To Life Than This (closer to the FM solo version but again with acoustic drums, remaining piano as a key element and making room for Brian's solo spot in which guitar intertwines with piano, optionally adding some choir. 3. I Go Crazy (played little slower). 4. Love Kills (rock mix but again, little slower tempo and more John on this track!) 5. Man On Fire (Freddie/Roger duet, D&W drums sound [MiH]. SIDE B: 1. Radio Ga-Ga (guitar more prominent in the mix) 2. It's a Hard Life (no changes) 3. Hammer To Fall (drums sounding more the way they sound on Made in Heaven [reworked Queen version]. 4. I Want to Break Free (no changes) 5. Let Me In Your Heart Again 6. Is this the world we created (Intro played by piano, the rest just Freddie, Brian and acoustic guitar). |

I haven't listened to the album version in a good while, but I guess the main thing that springs to my mind is the recurring fake drum sound making the smashing sort of effect - could've been done with a bit more subtlety. Also, the recording would probably have been enhanced by vocal harmonies by all three, not just Brian and then Brian and Roger for the bridge stuff (Unless my facts are wrong on this - it sounds like Roger could maybe be in there on the chorus harmonies too). |

"The Works" - Brenski's alternate track listing: SIDE 1 1 - Seven Seas of Rhye (instrumental) 2 - Liar 3 - Great King Rat 4 - My Fairy King 5 - Good Old Fashioned Loverboy 6 - Somebody To Love 7 - In the Lap of the Gods ...revisited SIDE 2 1 - Ogre Battle 2 - The Fair Feller's Masterstroke 3 - Nevermore 4 - The March of The Black Queen 5 - Funny How Love Is 6 - Seven Seas of Rhye now that ^^^ has improved "The Works" by 1,000,000% |

Tear It Up / Man On Fire / It's A Hard Life [ext] / I Go Crazy / Man On The Prowl Love Kills [wolf euro mix] / I Want To Break Free [45] / Keep Passing The Open Windows / Hammer To Fall [ext] / Is This The World We Created? My version for eons. I can see the new Love Kills and Let Me In as the side B opener. If Radio, like Staying Power, had been given some balls in the studio as the live renditions, opening side two would be fine. 'I am better than Queen'. Sure, just like my cousin was better than The Beatles over 45 years ago. He replaced 'Revolution 1' and 'Revolution 9' on The White Album, with 'Revolution' and 'Hey Jude'. Worked for him. Works for me. Just personal preference. |
