Why is it that when I go to "Official International Queen Fan Club" Facebook group (which is probably the biggest Queen related group on Facebook) the picture I see is so much more different than it is here? To begin with, I posted a message and a link there regarding the new Sun City share about an hour ago. It got two likes. Two! While a couple of pictures posted there about the same time which we have seen a million times by now have about 20 likes. I'm just baffled. People don't care at all. In the last few days I also saw people posting things like that Body Language and Delilah are amazing songs. Most people agree. Over here we share totally different opinions. And the term "Queenies". Has anyone actually ever used it on here? I find it amusing, sounds like a childish name to me. With all this I wanted to say that Queenzone definitely feels more like home to me than anywhere else even with all its flaws. Rant over. |

I'd say that facebook is never a place to gather sophisticated opinions. I am not a fan of facebook, but I have to use it because all of my friends nowadays use it instead of emails and letters and blogs (how I miss those days!) Also, on facebook, photos always get more Likes than other serious stuffs, because the photos just pop onto their face. Not many people bother to read though. If someone joins QZ at least he/her means to read, I think that causes the difference. I'm (silly) glad to hear that you feel home at QZ. While I'm new here, I certainly don't want any long-time members to stay away. All these Queen discussions and video processings and file sharings are putting me high up on the cloud :-) |

There are many Queen type of fans: There are those who are not interested in bootlegs, demos or rare stuff... I for one, am not interested in bootleg collection. I enjoy many demos and stuff, I have heard lots, perhaps hundreds of different bootlegs and in the end I just dont give a damn about most of them. I remember I got that 1974 bootleg a QZ member was trying to sell on vinyl, I got it in the first upload made, I listened to it, enjoyed it and deleted it. I understand why people was very interested in it but some of us does not care at all about certain stuff. There are people who are very interested in getting every single recording and can identify a bootleg just by listening the audience, and usually that's the kind of people who will post stuff here in QZ and may appreciate things like the Sun City leak. And there's the "casual fan" that kind of fan that downloaded Greatest Hits or even the whole discography and knows a few songs besides the hits and really just "like" the Queen fb page just because they like some songs. In my opinion, that's the kind of people who usually posts in fb instead of QZ (or another forums) and is the kind of people who usually like all those pics. You can say that QZ is a forum for "hardcore fans" while the fb pages are more for the "regular fans" |

Average Queen fan = stupid and retard |

I don't understand why you guys call it Sun City "leak" ? The owner shared it himself, so it should be termed as Sun City share. |

QZ is a place for the hardcore fan, a lot of the heavy useres are also "experts" in their own resort....maybe you don't know Chief, but you're one of them ( Video Geek). :) |
Chief Mouse 12.03.2015 01:10 |
Ha, geek I am. That's for sure. As for an expert, I still gotta grow and grow :) |

We get healthy debate and banter on here, which is what we ''older'' fans want. More power to us :-) |
dysan 12.03.2015 04:19 |
I see it with other musicians too. While I do find it frustrating you get the newbies posting FREDDIE IS BAE and stuff like that (see my instagram comment in the other thread) but there is space for all of us. None of is 'right', and we're all cool. |

I've been a queen fan for 30 years now; I love their music, and want to delve into every possible detail about it (how, when why it was recorded, did they play it live, if so when and where etc etc). I am also fascinated by their story, and I suppose even to a degree by them as people. I can get all of the above on Queenzone if I navigate carefully around the trolls and mentally ill. However, things such as likes on the Facebook page, convention attendance, the sheer devotion to a single band member to the degree of stalking them etc... is not for me. The fan club, and strangely Queen as a band, does however tend to attract a fair few more of these types (the ones that dress up as Freddie everywhere they go etc) than is healthy for anyone - some of them are very odd! |

Exactly this, even down to the 30 years bit :) High 5 cmsdrums. |

I domt bother with likes and pics on stupod facebook. Im more excited when i hear stuff like Greg podt on YT. And lots of various songs and bootlegs witch I never heard before. I am a hardcore fan and I just love to listen to all bunch of new(old) songs so I dont rate FB things as a "woow" expresion. QZ is for me great oportunoty to fond interesting hreads and new stuff from Queen. Im happy here more than on the FB. I understand you Chief Mouse. You are a genious for me in terms of creating quality songs and videos so if youask me I would rather have your stuff and Greg stuff here in my special Queen folder on laptop. Likes dont mean a shit for me. Hope you all understand me.. Cos my little disadvantage in english dont came across like i would make my mark on my home language. Love you all and cheers my QueenZone friends. Please all of you share more and more interesting stuff from our beloved band ;) |

My comparison of likes was that people outside this forum don't really give a shit for shares like Sun City which happen once in many years but rather care more about a million times seen pictures with stupid tags. |

I just discovered this https://www.facebook.com/groups/3093335789/permalink/10155315283250790/ where someone just blatantly took the merge I made and uploaded it to the group without letting people know who made the damn thing... |
Sebastian 13.03.2015 12:55 |
It doesn't really need to be an 'A or B' case. Though I'm not on FB myself, I do like to check out the band's official FB page when they upload things such as studio sheets, as I find that quite interesting. As for the community itself, I haven't got first hand experience but I would imagine a big difference between a 'fan club' and a 'discussion group' is that the former is more about praising the act in question, the latter is about ... well, debating, learning, researching, whatever you want to call it. I quite like QZ because it's got a lot of variety. Of course, people clash a lot for different reasons and loads of us get over-defensive about our own areas of interest or whatever we feel matters, or should matter, more. But that's just human nature. Despite the annoying ongoing threads about Adam Lambert and whether he's the best thing ever or an utter disgrace (to me, he's neither), there's a lot of healthy discussion going on here, as has been for many years, and I really like that. At the end of the day, even if only 1% of the threads and posts are as good as, say, Bohardy's recent recreation of the 'Black Queen' piano part, that 1% is worth the 99% of plain nonsense. |
