The Real Wizard 11.03.2015 14:10 |
Ahhhh, but you're not bootlegging. You're just putting an old tape out there. ... which is distinctly different from packaging it and selling it. You're a good man. This is a phenomenal listen. Mercury is in a very playful mood and in excellent voice. Lovely thing Bri plays in the first 30 seconds. It's kind of like a cross between Life Is Real and Save Me. PEOPLE, TAKE NOTICE - THIS IS HOW IT WORKS. Digitize your old tapes and get them out there so people can enjoy them. Life is just too short. |

I laughed my arse off at Freddies falsetto phrasing in Hammer to Fall. And he gets the notes amazingly well. The guitar solo is better than the Live Aid one, and Roger does some cool stuff with his E-drums at the end. Conclusion: best live version ever. |

HA - the "guitar solo" in Radio Ga Ga... Bri completely misses it, flubs one of the chords, and to compensate Freddie sings a few notes of it in falsetto. |
Nitroboy 11.03.2015 17:18 |
Yeah that guitar solo in Hammer To Fall is amazing, it's not just one of the few occasions Brian nails it note-by-note, but it also sounds AWESOME. I went on the 4 shows that were origionally announced for this tour in 84 and I have said many times it was the best tour I ever saw them do. After going to Elland Rd 82 and then Manchester in 86. I am a Musician and I have cleaned these tracks up, using the tools I have. Mainly Waves and Izotope's Ozone 5 and RX3. I have done a quick test, getting rid of noise and hums and it has worked out far better than I thought. I have only got up to and including STL. I haven't even heard the rest of the gig yet, so I will have to wait to hear the time lags and dropouts. It has been Mastered too and to the way I heard the sound on the 4 nights I went to. The only way I can get it online is on my Soundcloud page and I will post a link when it gets uploaded. I would welcome any comments, good or bad. But it won't be on Soundcloud forever. Any ideas as to how best I can upload this finished gig? My name on Soundcloud is Empty Glass and the tracks will go under the name of - Q sun city. which is perhaps better than me posting a link. It is a Wav file and 145MB. |

It's quite great! I hear some clipping in the right channel and maybe in the left. It is bass boosted, no? I would delete that process. Better not break too much his natural EQ, I think. But it's good deleting the noise in the air and making things clear! |

BETA215, it isn't clipped on either channel. The origional file was clipped though, to quite a large degree. Remember the origional file is a mix, I have done a Master. The Master comes in at - 2dB. I have removed a buzzing sound and hum and crowd noise. If you listen to Machines, you can hear every note. But removing the hum, will not change the tone of the songs. But there will be a trade off, removing part of the crowd. But as they aren't that vocal anyway, I felt it was better that way. I want to bring the drums out more too. One thing I have noticed, is Freddie's voice has little or no reverb or delay on it. Perhaps because it is a soundboard mix. Yet in parts of Under Pressure, there are parts that get the reverb switched on, then off, which makes it sound awful. At first I thought it was Spike, messing about with those silly sounds on his Casio keyboard, but it isn't. The link is downloadable. All I want to know, really, is, do people think I have improved the sound? |
dysan 12.03.2015 07:48 |
Oh dear me - after all that, I actually already have part 1 :/ |
alberbal12 12.03.2015 09:30 |

This show is one of my favourites and I'm soo looking forward to hearing the definitive version, which means: a lossless transfer from the cassette in the best possible conditions. Hopefully that'll happen soon :-) No pressure though haha! Thanks once again! It is so lovely to hear Freddie in a creative and playful mood, and in great voice. |

I find it hilarious :DIt goes something like this....the way I remember it, when Anthony frst came on here those many years ago and claimed that he had Sun City, no one believed him. He was ridiculed quite a bit (canlt blame the zoners, though. there have been quite a few trolls here), but he had the last laugh when he posted a very short clip that was just a few seconds long. It was just Freddie saying "Hello Sun City..." Well everyone lost their sarcasm very fast after that, and soon after, Anthony shared the first part. After which he just disappeared for a really long time, and came back just now, and set the place on fire once again by sharing part 2!. To know more about where he was, in the interim, you should check his thread on the Serious Discussion forum. |

Thank you so much for this! I too had given up hope we'd ever see it. After reading the other thread I can certainly understand the time lapse. BUT glad to see this uploaded! Sounds phenomenal! Just curiously and maybe I skimmed through something but it does still seem a bit incomplete given the setlist at the time. I know that in 1985 they had (sadly) dropped the Stone Cold Crazy/Great King Rat bit so it is certainly feasible that they were dropped in Sun City BUT the reason I wonder is I can't see a Queen gig without a Brian solo? I mean having what we have is still well beyond expected and so if we don't get Bri's solo it's a small price to pay - but just curious! Thanks again! |

Thank you for sharing this concert City-in-the-Sun. And in soundboard quality! The band sounds amazing, and when Freddie's voice was good, "I Want To Break Free" sounded great. One of the best versions of the song i've hear so far, and that alone is worth this concert. When Freddie missed the first line after the solo, for a moment i thought hey were going to play the extended version :-) There are so many great moments from this show: Radio GaGa, Hammer to Fall. This is just fantastic! Thank you again. |

soxtalon wrote: I know that in 1985 they had (sadly) dropped the Stone Cold Crazy/Great King Rat bit so it is certainly feasible that they were dropped in Sun City BUT the reason I wonder is I can't see a Queen gig without a Brian solo?Frustratingly there is a cut part way through Love Of My Life, so we just can't have the answers to that question. In fact, it's said that the band shortened this show because they were an hour late getting on stage. So the question is, how much is cut out ? And there are indeed rare instances of Brian not doing a solo spot. He didn't on Zurich 4-17-82 (there are two audience sources to prove it). |
soxtalon 12.03.2015 22:56 |

It was special! This performance is very close to the Live Aid one. And "Hammer to fall" is becoming my new favorite version. When i hear a concert from the Works tour with Freddie's voice in this kind of shape, nothing else matters. And in soundboard quality! This concert almost made me forgive Queen for not performing "I want to break free" on Live Aid, because i know they would have made the definitive version that day with THAT voice. The version on this gig is almost perfect! Just a line missed after the solo (maybe a mic problem) and no audible audience on the first line. Other than that, it's perfect! I hope that this concert gets a new transfer to FLAC, because i'm going to burn it on CD, something i haven't donne for more that seven years with a bootleg! |

I would love to help doing a new tape transfer, unfortunately I'm in Germany. I can do wav/flac tape transfers up to 24bit/96kHz on my Nakamichi CR4 tape deck. If you're interested please let me know. I suppose even a first gen tape clone in high resolution wav/flac would be a nice upgrade to the mp3 transfer and an great basis for a remastering project.
