I'm going to buy my first car only now - until last year my thoughts were exactly the same as Thomas's but I simply grown sick with trains and buses. |

Oh, it's not purely a matter of idealism - if they rode on water and produced sugar-frosted cornflakes I'd still dislike driving. I *really* hate driving, that's all. But I'm in the lucky position of living somewhere you don't need a car to get around. And if more people around here realized that they DON'T live miles away from nowhere and have public transport available pretty much everywhere, it'd be even easier to get around. |

Actually I looove driving! Open back roads, Queen on my mp3... For me, that is a natural high. Utter freedom. Old 2000 Toyota Celica hatchback. Manual transmission. |

And if more people around here realized that they DON'T live miles away from nowhere and have public transport available pretty much everywhere, it'd be even easier to get around.the problem with that is that not all countries have the same great public transport infrastructure that of yours Casper. The UK keep pushing such p/transport based incentives while cramming people onto buses and trains into standing room only (commonplace) situations on filthy dirty carriages running late and overcharging for the privilege. added to this, we now get the anti-diesel lobbyists starting up. these same backhander-snatching thieves who actively encouraged diesel until six months ago. and the anti-diesel propaganda doesn't add up - think about it; so their are more "particulates" generated by diesel? but they are conveniently ignoring the fact that although the amount of "particulates" per cubic metre of air may be higher, it's significantly less once you equate that their are only 66% as many miles of air contaminated as petrol - due to actual fuel consumption. then to cap it all they encourage cycling but make drivers responsible for cyclists accidents, when cyclists show complete disdain and contempt for the highway code. well the UK and Boris Johnson can go fuck themselves. they're so corrupt, and i will not buy into their "bustopia". sorry, soapbox now removed. fwiw - currently driving very sensible Kia, after previous two "fun cars" a Ford Cougar 2.5L V6 with max pack, followed by an Alfa Romeo |

It's always weird to me to see references to a 'Ford Cougar'.......I always wanna correct whoever says it....."It's a Mercury, not a Ford!" lol |

mooghead wrote: According to webuyanycar.com the Cougar is worth 185 quid! it certainly wasn't £185 quid when i had mine but they're not exactly collectors' items now once managed 1 3 1 mph in mine and it scared the sh*t out of me and on the other side of the coin...it was the most incredibly comfortable car to drive - once did a round trip Worcestershire to Port Merion in one day (return journey 320 miles) and didn't even feel like i'd been in a car.. proper touring car |
