I'll be honest - whilst I always adopt the "each to their own" attitude, I personally can't see why people get their knickers in a twist over this stuff (incomplete 8mm footage). To get a few seconds here and there of songs, amounting to a few minutes of a show at a time, strikes me as pointless - and to pay hundreds/thousands to obtain it is a notion beyond my comprehension. I know why these things are incomplete: I just don't see a point in having it. It would be different if it was footage of a complete song, from which many of these leaks could be turned into a compilation of rarities - now that would be exciting. Not to be disparaging to those who love this stuff - just my own opinion on it. |

Not to be disparaging to those who love this stuff - just my own opinion on it.8mm footage will rarely be of complete songs, since each reel is only 3 minutes long. People would have to smuggle in a few reels at most, and they'd film snippets as they pleased. 8mm footage offers a glimpse into a particular day in history, so that's why it's of value. If you're just into high quality stuff, then of course to each their own. But for some people this stuff is gold. And there's a lot of it out there in people's attics. As far as I can recall, the only complete song in any 8mm footage of Queen is Mustapha from St Paul 1980. And considering that's the only footage of that song in existence, that's quite a lucky coincidence for us. It's bizarre to see the lukewarm response to this. If this was a new 8mm film on a Led Zeppelin or Genesis forum, people would be losing their shit in elation. |
Thistle 04.03.2015 13:47 |
I don't see how a few seconds of footage (often silent and in need of a synch up from a usually bad audience source) offers a glimpse into that day in history - unless you were drunk and you can only remember blurry blobs ;). For someone seeing it for the first time, it offers absolutely no clue as to how Queen performed during that time. I know why the footage is incomplete - it's just annoying to hear the opening line of, say, prophet's song suddenly become the ending to Liar. It makes no sense - unless it's used as a montage for the making of a documentary. As you say, there'll be lots of this stuff in people's attics, so here's hoping for rarely played songs in complete form :) |

Thistleboy1980 wrote: For someone seeing it for the first time, it offers absolutely no clue as to how Queen performed during that time.Unless there's audio. 8mm footage often does have audio from the same source, which this one does. But you're right, 8mm footage with no accompanying audio really doesn't offer too much in the realm of musical or historical value, but it's still nice to fill in that date in the collection, y'know? Unless it was footage of the crown rising on an angle a few days earlier, with the band having to abort mission... link Now that I'd kill to see, silent or not. |

I know Bob, some folk just need to have everything they can. I used to be like that - and remember the nasty old VHS trades when the footage hadn't been transferred properly. Now I'm part of the "who gives a fuck squad" lol. Your example above would be nice to see as that really is a document of a piece of Queen history ;) |

Great record, still not enough to make me a Genesis fan. Online, Zeppelin and Genesis fans are overall far more intelligent than Queen fans. Queen forums attract a lot of people with double digit IQs. Furthermore - an uncirculated 8mm video was just shared, and a grand total of three people have shown an interest. Need I say more? On a Zeppelin forum, if a new 8mm video from this period popped up, we'd already be at page 10 of people analyzing every frame of the footage - and page 25 if it were a new show. |

Wizard: "Furthermore - an uncirculated 8mm video was just shared, and a grand total of three people have shown an interest. Need I say more?" Maybe the lack of attention is because this video was taken from a YouTube video? And in response of your last paragraph: And also because a lot of fans here aren't so participative as me or you? I've seen a lot of accounts requesting things in the Request forum but almost never appearing in other forums outside the Announce (sometimes thanking or requesting a down link) and the Request forum. Anyway, I'm not going to judge a big amount of people on basis in which band they like: That would be very fool of my part, IMHO. |
Oscar J 06.03.2015 04:51 |
About half of the human population has an IQ lower than 100, so of course there's going to a lot of people with double digit IQ. Nothing wrong with that. Furthermore: is analyzing every single frame of an 8mm film nessecarily a sign of intelligence? |

Furthermore: is analyzing every single frame of an 8mm film nessecarily a sign of intelligence?Ha, I knew someone would catch that one... Of course I'm not equating those two things per se. But really - would this place be richer if this thread was ten pages of people analyzing this footage instead of people sparring over who can share what? If people were smart enough to know the difference between what they can and can't control, then they'd post more appropriately. So yeah, I'd say this place is not living up to its potential, with intelligence being one of many factors. |
Thistle 06.03.2015 08:47 |
My last official IQ test result was 147, although I've hit 161 and 177 in recent mock ups. I like a bit of Zep now and again but not a fanatic, and I cannot stand Genesis. That said, if I see one more bit of shitty, blurry Queen 8mm or a ridiculous argument about who can share what and when, my brain will melt so badly I'll be lucky if I hit a double digit IQ ;) :p |

One question about this show but not this video. On queenlive.ca, there is a third recording which is a merge of two sources. I think this one has never been shared anywhere as I have never heard GSTQ from this show. I guess the best would be to use the It's Late But Not To Late bootleg and this 3rd recording to make the best recording available. Is it something someone is planning to do? Otherwise, I would love to do it but I don't have the 3rd recording. Thanks. |

This is but another: link So yes, it's indeed possible to do a merge of these sources, but with the good copy of source 1 out there somewhere I just don't feel inspired to spend the time when it still won't be the best possible product.
